age limits too- old people are often out of touch with today's technology and needs so can not make "modern" decisions. There is a reason 65 is the retirement age. Congress is overloaded with career aged men - who if you believe some reports are on mind improvement medicine. Time for change - those 18 -25 years old - get out there and vote incumbents out of office - simple on the basis they are not serving their constituents. Vote in the younger generation - make a change that will be productive. That effort should start with Alderman and go right to the congress, senate, and President.

Energy Scam Folks Making Their Rounds

I just had a man knock HARD on my front window while ringing the doorbell, and THEN jiggling the door handle excessively hard. I came from a back room and saw him walking down the front steps and I thought it may have been a delivery driver, so I opened the door (oops) and he came flying back up the steps with the whole spiel of "Just need to see your energy bill, etc." I politely told him no thanks,...

Told him "no thank you, I'm not interested", and closed the door. He then went huffing across my lawn hollering about how black men in Chicago don't get any respect...
So, that was pleasant.
He was wearing a blue polo, tan pants, lanyard around his neck and had dreads.

Just an FYI to the people in the Pratt/Wayne area.

  • Roger S. Park Teller of truth in a fake news world.

It would be a good idea to call the cops when this type of aggressive “salesmanship” occurs.

  • We had that.
2 girls I swear we're coming home from highschool.
They produced a tattered card .
I laughed and said do you really think I'm letting you one step anywhere here?
Scam over she swore at me, walked around the fence to meet her friend who was waiting.
I also pointed out she had nothing to "write down information on".
I swear it's a training exercise for future scamming.

Why have the youth landscapers been replaced by professionals?
I thought the Hockwater kids did a fine job.

Is RogersEdge a real place?

The President of the Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce has decided it would be a good idea to proclaim that "Rogers Edge [sic] was a bad marketing idea, and is not a real location in the City of Chicago!"

That seems to have sparked a debate on a lesser known Rogers Park facebook page about the matter. It's quite a good one.

So what say you Everyblock, Is RogersEdge a real location or not?

I came across that FB thread today. It really was entertaining.

I'm not sure whether Loyola came up with the name or the Rogers Park Business Alliance did, but JMG is exactly right that the chamber guy's nose is out of joint. I perused the thread late last night. It's a hoot.

New restaurant by 400 Theater?

Does anyone know what is going in to the space that the dry cleaners formerly occupied?

  • Gabriel Resident of PRRP

I ate there in the past, overly greasy with high sugar and salt content even for a fast food Chinese place. But if it’s expanding maybe they learned how to do things in a better way. It might be worth another chance.

  • I agree, Gabriel. It was pretty awful. Let's hope for the best with this expansion. Nice people. I wish them well.

Both are wrong, both are bad, and neither should be tolerated. You should firmly ask them to stop. If you already have, then they know their actions are offensive to you, and they should be reported, and actions taken as the others before me have suggested.

Lots of emergency vehicles on Clark between Touhy and Estes

Does anyone know what’s going on with all of the emergency vehicles on Clark between Estes and Touhy? I saw at least ten, including a Fire Department Mobile Command Center.

  • Also concerned as to what’s going on lots of noise on Pratt and Sheridan too

  • Fire at Touhy and Ridge. A woman died when she attempted to save herself and died.

  • steven beckerman Lifelong resident of the Rogers Park neighborhood.

According to news reports it was an arson fire. Be on the lookout for suspicious behavior, as arsonists often set fires in a series.

I need to cut the cable

i need someone who is computer savvy to help me cut my TV cable service (Comcast). I have sort of browsed RCN and some of the others but don't seem to be able to figure out how to watch some of the things I like without using a cable provider. I am moderately aware of Hulu, Netflix, and some of the other services but am not sure I have a "smart" TV. (HaanSpree 280H) Any help would be appreciated. I am on Lakewood between Loyola and Arthur.

  • d3 NoHo

Don't forget to check if your internet will have data caps too and what you need to do to avoid that.

  • If you want network channels you can buy a rabbit TV stick. I think it’s a usb. I think it was 25.00 a year w/possibilities to upgrade.

Energy Scammers?

Three people from "Life Energy" are making their way down Ridge north of Touhy asking for whomever is in charge of the electricity at the buildings. I "explained" that person is not here but in another building and that seemed to confuse them. Wearing blue shirts with the name on them.

  • chrisfinn bornagain chicagoan

If they were legitimate they would have that info already.

  • Same thing in my building at Greenview & Morse. It's an identity theft scam. I took their photos and chased them out of the building. But they're so brazen, it took some doing. This happens about every 4 months in my building -- at least I run into them at that approximate rate.

Worst case scenarios: What if someone has a heart attack while stuck alone in an elevator for a long time? What if someone has a seizure and needs immediate medical attention? What if a pregnant woman is ready to give birth and no one is there to assist? Well, I could go on and on.

Among other things lacking in our society, I believe, is the lack of compassion for others. A lack of the milk of human kindness, if you will. Is our president a role model?

I have claustrophobia and can assure you I would go bonkers if I was confined in an elevator -you may not think it is life threatening but that just shows how ignorant people can be ".

Has anyone else been followed recently?

I was followed home by a group of 3 people yesterday evening, and just wanted to see if it had happened to anyone else recently.I went slowly and even made a couple stops along the way and each time they were hanging back waiting for me. I've lived here for several years and have never had something like this happen before. It happened on Sheridan around 5:45. I can provide more details if necessary.

I did not know any of them,
I just walked towards them,I was so relieved to see these people.
Then the guy who was following me, stop an stood
    There on the corner,
I look back at him an he
    Was looking dead at me.
Then I walk away from the
car in went into my building.
But I did not go to my
entrance, because I did not want him to know where I
Iived. He had the nerve to
    Just stand there an watch
    me, he would’nt dare come
    across the street.
I had turn away from his stare,
an when I look again, he
    had vanished.
    It creeped me out.

9-64-100-G Parking within 30ft from a Stop Sign

I just wanted to warn everyone else, I had 2 of these waiting for me on my car this morning. Looks like Rahm "Nickel & Dime" Emanuel's Chicago is in full effect.

  • Kevin

I contested and won based on arbitrary enforcement.

  • I once received a ticket on Foster between Clark and Ashland for not paying meter in a space that was one car length long and between bus stop sign and pay to park sign. I contested in person with photos of spot. It got dismissed but the hearing officer said it was actually a bus stop according to the addresses but sign was placed wrong. I asked him how in the world is person would know this because we don’t have access to the database. He had no answer.

Join your neighbors Sunday, April 29 for the annual Spring Bird Walk, led by David Willard of the Chicago Audubon Society, who has led our Spring and Fall bird walks for many years. He not only knows the bird songs. He knows where to find them.

Gather in the Indian Boundary Park Cultural Center, 2500 W. Lunt and step off for a 45-minute walk around the park at 8 a.m. rain or shine. Don’t forget to bring binoculars.

Coffee and breakfast sweets will be provided before and after the walk, and stick around to discuss birds and birding with Dave.

Presented by the Indian Boundary Park Advisory Council, the Spring Bird Walk is free of charge, and as usual, donations of any amount will be warmly received.
