Going to Cvs or Taco Bell is usually an invitation for some desperate person to rapidly approach you and violate your personal space.
I especially take issue with well groomed, clean individuals standing less than five feet from Five guys making it impossible to enter without an interaction with them.
One woman has a very shiny, well maintained bald head. Her regular spot is far too close to the entrance of Five Guys.

I shave mine in solidarity with a family member on chemo and I have stubble by 1pm, if this person can keep it up that well they arent homeless or even marginally housed.
I am well aware people are moving out of nursing and group homes en masse into section 8 subsidized apartments into the zipcode, maybe their caseworkers will see this and address the issue a bit better.

Hello every block

So after months of not being able to share my opinion on DNA INFO ive decided to join every block ..

Its true. I had my post and account deleted recently for just asking questions. Its naked censorship. But if you like an echo chamber that reaffirms you bias then you are in the right place.

  • Michael Archangel Truth is NOT whatever you can get away with!

@RPforlife - Welcome to the neighborhood.

It is not a matter of the moderator not liking something. It is a matter of adhering to the rules of the site. This is not a public forum, as much as some want to talk about censorship. As long as you are reasonable with other members, even if you do not agree with one another, then you certainly will have no issues.

Christmas Tree Pickup/Recycle? - YES!

I just wanted to give an enthusiastic shout-out to the non-profit group, Do The Right Thing - Recycling (http://dtrt-recycling.org/). They just came to my 3rd floor walkup (yes, at 8pm on a Saturday!) and did an exceptional job removing my tree and taking it to be recycled. Well worth the door-to-door $25 donation/charge. (It's only $15 if you meet them at the curb.) Check them out and schedule away your worries of the schlep.

Tree Recycling Program - Do The Right Thing! Recycling
Do The Right Thing! Recycling is offering holiday tree pickup services for the north side of Chicago. We pick up your tree directly from your living room floor. We come equipped with reusable tarps and cords, and all we ask is that you remove all decorations from the trees including lights and tinsel.

Willis P.

Some years ago the northwest corner of Glenwood & Dwevon was owned by Kaplan, who rented out apartments to pimps, prostitutes and drug dealers. Then UPS moved east to their current location. I don't know if Kaplan owns the corner site of the old drug store that vacated a few years ago. Anybody know what Kaplan is up to, or whether he still owns property in the neighborhood. His rentals were bad news.

CHICAGO - The Van Dorn, an overcrowded apartment building in the Rogers Park neighborhood, is Donald Trump's worst nightmare, both as a luxury real estate developer and a nativist politician. Although its name connoted New York Knickerbocker elegance when it was built in 1923, the Van Dorn is now a shabby hive of tiny studios that overheat whenever the oven is dialed to 425.

What might those be? And why?

  • Federal employees and their family members who work for our government in other countries. Also, anyone serving elsewhere in the military. Why? I don’t know, but I’d guess it’s because they are only living outside of the US due to their government service, whether it be civilian or military.

Any indoor tracks near Loyola for the winter?

Hi all. I live very close to Loyola campus and do a lot of walking around the campus and elsewhere the rest of the year. I like cold weather walking, but this weather is just cold for me, and I'm really missing my daily long walk.

I called Loyola's rec center, and the indoor track is only accessible to those with a Loyola affiliation. I have none. I'm looking for an indoor track that might be accessible to the community, preferable free because I live in Rogers Park, but happy to pay a small amount for use. Not looking for cardio, treadmills, etc.--just a closeby track I can use for the winter. Can anyone help? Thank you!

Let's stop this feel good scam by class warriors of calling it affordable and label it what it is--a government approved crime of highly compensated middle people taking money from some and giving it to others. If you want to help others live in housing they can't afford, you can independently donate to an entity called a housing charity which will donate the money to the owner.
Now that's fair. And affordable for more people.

Bill the bishop looks fabulous in his ecclesiastical gowns. Does the bishop still travel all the way from the far south side of Chicago up to Rogers Park to protest against the new CHA housing on Sheridan and the Target store that will hire Sullivan High School students and their family members? Does he know that Target promised to pay above minimum wage to support Rogers Park families who need work? Does the bishop know that Target is working with Sullivan High School to create jobs? Does the chamber's bishop from near Indiana know what really is happening in Rogers Park?

The Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce spent a busy day last Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Northeastern Illinois University NEIU.

The Chamber participated in the College of Business and Management Career Fair. Chamber President Bill Morton and interns, Emilia Jamarillo and Trudy Leong, greeted and discussed Chamber internship business, social media, and legal opportunities with many of the 1,000 students majoring in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management and Business Administration.

After the Career Fair, Biil Morton and Trudy volunteered with the University Honors Program at the North Park Village Senior Apartments at 5801 N. Pulaski Rd. to help at the Apartments' annual Thanksgiving dinner for the residents.

UHP Director Dr. Jon Hageman sent out a last-minute call to UHP students for help and eloquently stated the need.

"Many of the residents are alone and have no family in the area (or at all)--the holidays are times when those residents are particularly alone, and even something small like a meal served by a smiling face lets them know they matter—it gives them a sense of worth and human dignity that is otherwise lacking, or in very short supply.

For me, it’s easy to see work and other things as overwhelming. Taking a couple of hours to serve others whose lives are in many ways much more difficult than mine helps me keep things in perspective. I have seen how a small amount of time on my part can make a big difference in the life of someone who otherwise feels abandoned. Ultimately, we all depend on help from others, and it’s important to repay that in some way."

Chamber President Bill Morton appreciates giving back and providing interns with a well-rounded internship experience, which includes Chamber volunteer work.

Mr. Morton looks forward to Chamber involvement in future university career fairs and supporting his interns' volunteer opportunities. Trudy is an NEIU student and enrolled in the University Honors Program.

  • Trudy Leong Student Trustee, Northeastern Illinois University

North Park Village Senior Apartments provided the food and asked the University Honors Program to serve the seniors. Volunteers having a meal with the residents help instill community presence with the residents. The UHP Director, the students, and Bill Morton were the only volunteers at the dinner.

North Park Village Senior Apartments wanted the UHP volunteers to help reduce the residents' sense of isolation from the community if no one else except the residents themselves attended the Thanksgiving meal.

  • Phill Lucille, give me strength.

    Very nice!
