  • Not happening Robin.

The CPS is broken and the CTU is corrupt...that rears its ugly head at DonorsChoose as teachers beg for money our taxpayer dollars should already be addressing.

Perhaps you should take your own advice, Robin and "stop seeing classroom fundraisers in your feed" if my views bother you so much.

Portage Theater

I heard it was going to close. However the website shows bookings through April I walked by there tonight and everything has been stripped from the lobby..the chandelier, the vintage movie posters, the concession stand...all gone.

Oh yes and the restrooms at the Patio that are in the basement

  • PennyPenguin Chillin' out on EB

I had no problem whatsoever finding parking for either personally. And, no problem with the bathroom situation. Pickwick's bathrooms are downstairs also. Portage had that large city lot at Culyer and LaPorte, this is a short block away. It used to be free and now it is a city metered lot because very little is free in Chicago anymore.

Di's Den Burglary

I just saw in the Nadig news that Di's Den was burglarized Sunday night. I live on that block and hadn't heard about this. It sounded very professionally done. Pretty scary.

  • Do you have a link?

  • Karen Lifelong Chicago resident

I saw it in the paper version; it doesn't appear on their website yet, although it seems like the stories there are a week behind.

Looking for recommendations

Looking for someone to install new drywall in our small coat closet in our bungalow. Located in north Montclair. Must be reliable.

  • Home advisor is a great place.

  • PennyPenguin Chillin' out on EB

So is Angie's List and Yelp! and Google, and other sites w/ reviews.

  • I second Home Advisors. I have people but they are all so busy I can't get them to call me back. So I went to Home Advisors. You tell them what you need and then they send 3 people or companies to you. They are all vetted. The painter I got was good.

I don't have a lot of time right now but want to respond re a couple of things. There is no franchisee attached to the project at this time, 7-11 reps said they only match a franchisee after they have approval for a site. The current owners of the Shell were there and did not express any interest in being the franchisee and in fact were concerned about their current gas station's viability. They did not seem to think there is enough demand for gas there to support two gas stations. They did not express this explicitly, but the sum of their comments seemed to imply this.

Now you can have two empty corners instead of one, good idea. When is the next meeting.

"Where are my tax dollars going if not into the classroom to help these students learn and succeed in life?"

C-H-B....To personnel costs including the continued practice of Chicago taxpayers paying 75% of what CTU members should be contributing to their pensions.

  • FYI CTU only contributes 2% of their pay while other unions contribute from 9 to 11%.

Coyote sighting

Anyone hear of coyote('s) on Pensacola just east of Milwaukee?

  • I meant the critters, not the S&S people.

  • I saw a mother, pops, & baby crossing the street by Steinmetz High School at around 3 am. Were incredibly calm even though I was quite close due to not seeing their approach. Adorable.

Clean snow off fire hydrants

Wintry weather can create fire safety hazards, such as ice or heavy snowfall that can obstruct fire hydrants. You can help reduce the risk by keeping nearby fire hydrants accessible and clear of ice and snow, says the U.S. Fire Administration. repost every where

  • paul in jefferson jefferson park resident

How come Harwood Heights and Norridge don't have these problems

  • Another benefit: The crooks in this town won't slap you with a $150 ticket for parking too close to a hydrant that you had no idea was there because it was covered in snow.
