Basement Work

Looking for recommendations for a company that waterproofs basements. I received a quote from US Waterproofing and it was ridiculous and didn't include exterior work. I called Permaseal and they will be quoting me this week. Is there another company anyone has used that they had positive experiences with? Bonus if you have some pictures of the before/during/after.

  • Thanks everyone for your input. We are planning on starting to call for estimates this week.

Emily...did you ever complete your project? I am considering a similar project and wonder if you have any reco's to share.

Martin Luther?

Hi everyone! One of my favorite things to do is investigate Google Maps and I have recently noticed Google labeling a neighborhood I have never seen before called Martin Luther. Please view the attached photo for the area. Did Google make this up or is it a real neighborhood nearby I just have never heard of?

  • Chicago is made up of many townships. Townships are comprised of “neighborhoods.” Some overlap and some neighborhoods took on a township name. As Chicago expanded these townships saw more advantage to joining the city. Some anomalies exist... Harwood heights etc. Luther north high school took on Martin Luther College and the area simply stop being Martin Luther and never affiliated with Martin Luther King.

Mia's Restaurant for Rent/Sale

What kind of restaurant do you hope takes over at the Mia's location off of Central across from Portage Park? I'm thinking I would dig a breakfast and then a lunch soup/salad/sandwich spot similar to Milk and Honey Cafe in Wicker. Definitely wanting some healthier good tasting food options instead of the million pizza/burger/taco places in this side of town. Just curious to hear everyone's thoughts. Thanks!

  • I agree Chicagonewbie, there is an abandoned bank on Irving just east of Austin that would be a perfect place for a microbrewery/restaurant. They are hoping up all over just east of us. Why can't we get one there?

I most often order take-out when I'm out somewhere and want to pick it up on my way home. I Google the place I want and when I click on "order" I'm sent to Grub Hub. That makes me crazy! I want to be sent to the phone line for the restaurant so that I can order something that will be ready for pick up when I get there. I don't want anyone to bring it to me because I'm not at home, especially now that I know how much their "take" is!
