Shared sidewalk program timeline?

Hello everyblockers,

Hello everyblockers,

I am a participant in the city of Chicago shared sidewalk program and anxiously awaiting my new concrete (it's in pretty bad shape). I have been hoping it gets done sooner rather than later. Today to my amazement, the sidewalks are spray painted marking where the concrete will be replaced. I'm just wondering how much longer before they come and remove the old concrete so I can take a day off of work to ask if they'll replace two extra squares that are on my property. My thinking is that I can pay the contractor out of my pocket to do extra squares. Does anyone have an idea of when they'll come out and do it from this point? Should be soon? Anyone out there that has an idea? Any indications would help greatly. Thanks in advance

  • Nope! Still waiting. With my luck? It'll be the last day of summer and I won't get to enjoy it. Try to call office and no one ever answers back. Gotta love the city

Oh no! Sorry about that! Hopefully it will be soon. Crossing fingers. :)

Package stolen.

I live on the 4500 block of Kasson. Just moved in a few weeks ago. Today, for the first time, I had a package delivered that was too big to fit in the screen door. It was a tow hitch for my Smart Car - not something of use to too many people.

I came home to find an empty box in the alley.

So, no, we don't live in a place where UPS can leave packages. It makes me sad.

  • DPANCAKES Resident

Thanks Don G, because that's exactly what I meant.

  • I know USPS owns our mailboxes if they're not attached to our front doors. That's their property and some mail carriers are very particular.

Unable to lower your flag because it is on a fixed pole?

Attaching a black ribbon to the top of a U.S. flag is an acceptable alternative for flags that cannot be lowered to half-staff. See picture.

Bob, instead of complaining someone else isn't promoting, why doesn't the JPNA simply promote.

  • Zarah F want to hear other peoples opinions.

Bob, not sure what you are ranting about, guess I'm not in the know like you. However, I find it strange that on one hand you are complaining he is not helping promote and on the other you're asking him to leave them alone.

This Vacant, Dilapidated House Could Become Mayfair's Newest Park

Laurino made the pitch at Wednesday's Park District board meeting, where she asked commissioners to consider purchasing a vacant home at 4546 N. Kedvale Ave., near Mayfair's border with Old Irving Park and Portage Park.

This article has 1 other Chicago location (Show)

The 12,500-square-foot property sits in the middle of an area bounded by Lawrence, Elston and Pulaski — home to 4,000 people, including 1,000 children, who aren't currently well served in terms of green space, Laurino told the commissioners.

This Vacant, Dilapidated House Could Become Mayfair's Newest Park
MAYFAIR - A long-abandoned house could be reinvented as recreation space for Mayfair families if Chicago Park District commissioners follow through on a request from Ald. Margaret Laurino (39th) to buy the property and turn the land into a park.
