Greetings Neighbors,

Have you ever attended a flag ceremony? Do you have your Memorial Day plans already in place?

The Edgebrook Community Association (ECA) is responsible for maintaining the flag located at the triangle located at Lehigh, Devon and Caldwell. This Memorial Day, Monday, May 30 at 9 AM, we will retire the existing Star and Stripes and hoist a new American flag (and then return it to half-staff) at this very triangle. All are welcome and invited to attend this brief, 20 minute flag ceremony. Dennis Paterka (Edgebrook resident, veteran) and I will lead the flag ceremony and we welcome those in attendance to assist, as requested, with the ceremony. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are specifically requested to attend, in uniform, and could be called upon to assist.

The flag ceremony will pay respect to the flag of our nation, and as it will be Memorial Day we will take a moment to honor the women and men who have given the ultimate measure of devotion for our freedom. Please come prepared to speak the name, conflict and branch of service of those military members (family, neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc...) you know gave their all on our behalf while serving in our Armed Forces. Once those present have spoken on behalf of those who can no longer speak for themselves, we will honor a moment of silence.

The flag ceremony will take approximately 20 minutes. Gather on the sidewalk adjacent to the flagpole.

We will also collect American flags (only) that need to be properly disposed of. Please bring them to the flag ceremony. Flags collected will be burned at a separate time.

We hope you can attend, especially if you have never seen a flag ceremony and otherwise have no plans for Memorial Day. It can be a very moving experience.

Mayfair has two new cats.

Howdy. My cats and I are all moved in. Is there a good vet in the area? Thx.

  • I absolutely love Dr.Andy and crew at Chicago Pet Clinic near Addison and Cicero. I've been going there for years and have since referred many friends. I've been through many veterinarians, even worked for one; CPC is honest, affordable, and kind. Absolutely love them.

  • Absolutely, love Dr.Andy and Dr. Mark and Chicago Pet Clinic. Affordable, great staff, and easy to get an appointment. We used to take all 4 of our fur babies to different vet to each having difference special needs (diabetic/insulin, skin issues, sensitive stomach, cancer. However, 5 years ago a friend...

Absolutely, love Dr.Andy and Dr. Mark and Chicago Pet Clinic. Affordable, great staff, and easy to get an appointment. We used to take all 4 of our fur babies to different vet to each having difference special needs (diabetic/insulin, skin issues, sensitive stomach, cancer. However, 5 years ago a friend highly recommended them and we could not be happier with them. They always take time to hear my concerns and offer up conservative methods instead of resorting to expensive meds and procedures.
We have had everything from cancer mass removals to senior diabetic cat paradontil surgery done though them and they are fantastic.

Website/Blog devoted to Mayfair News?

I moved here from Hollywood (Florida) and we had a few local blogs that just talked about neighborhood stuff. Is there anything like that for Mayfair, or maybe the surrounding areas? Seems like Mayfair isn't very well known.

  • Tami - no idea, I've sent multiple messages as well all with no response...so strange.

  • Mayfair, I'm sorry. I'm not even in their area, but right next door, and love their page.
