Car Breakins Barry & Southport

On Jan. 20th Friday night I witnessed 5 black men dressed in black hoodies breaking into cars in front of our apartment. I quickly called 911 and snapped this photo. I know they broke into a Jeep on Southport for sure. Not sure what else they hit before I saw them. Be careful and lock your car and apartment doors!

nasty person

I have a picture of a dog being walked by someone who did not pick up the dog's poop and refused a bag to do so. That's not the type of behavior that is respectable at all. How would he like my dog pooping on his lawn? He probably wouldn't care...anyway, I'm sure I should not post his picture, right?

  • Sarah, I think the thumbs down were for the judgemental tone. As my father used to say, who died and made you queen?

  • On the internet, "tone" is usually something the reader brings to the text, which is why I repeated my original post: to invite readers to parse its language, and only its language. If you just read the words, all it said, in very benign language, was, basically: "EveryBlock is a...

On the internet, "tone" is usually something the reader brings to the text, which is why I repeated my original post: to invite readers to parse its language, and only its language. If you just read the words, all it said, in very benign language, was, basically: "EveryBlock is a neighborhood forum, please don't use it to do harm to your neighbors."

That's no "judgment" - that's a plea for doing no harm.

Yes, it did not encourage the OP to post the photo - which she seemed to know was not a nice thing to do, based on how she asked the question. But since when is coming down on the side of not doing harm something to condemn?

    Thumbs down? Really?

Like I said, later in the thread: Take the high road - cuz I''m sure that's how your mothers raised you. Be nice. Play fair. Don't stoop down low just because others do. Lead by example.

Be good. Do good. Now, more than ever.

    Please.

Jerks at 516 briar

I just wanted to give a shout out to the drunk kids at 516 briar for first waking me up by shouting and screaming this morning and then making fun of my dog and I when I took him out of my building for a walk. They must have been screaming and heckling people for over an hour standing outside their unit.
Nice to get a taste of middle school this morning.

Protestors

I have a question I hope someone can answer. Does anyone know if there are protests planned for tomorrow and if so, where they will be?
I have a very important doctors appointment (Neiman Marcus building on Michigan ave) and I'll be coming in from the western burbs. The last thing I want is to miss my appt because I wasn't aware of a protest I might have been able to avoid.

  • I'm pretty sure lauren made it to her doctors appointment already

  • lauren :)

Someone said "I remember you posting this exact thread earlier - what gives?"
This thread is from JULY. I did not bring it back, someone else did.
This was about protests involving a shooting, not anything political.

Found Lost Cat - Looking for Owner

Hey,

My wife found this cat in the rain on Barry between Clark and Broadway. Does anyone have information on who the owner might be? He's super friendly.

  • He's a beauty! And I'm glad you found his owners. I know I'd sure be worried if my cat wasn't home. Thanks for letting us know he's home.

  • What a great looking cat. Thanks so much to you and your wife for helping him safely get home!
