Victim of CTA pushing identifies suspect in court as his attacker

The two stood a few feet apart inside the branch courthouse at Western and Belmont avenues just a week after Estep, 34, a recent doctoral graduate in neuroscience from Northwestern University, had been charged with the frightening attack.

Victim of CTA pushing identifies suspect in court as his attacker
Seconds after Ben Benedict was shoved onto the tracks of a CTA station in the Loop, he says he turned around and saw a man pointing at him. But on Monday, it was Benedict who was pointing as he identified Chad Estep in a Cook County courtroom as the stranger who shoved him onto the tracks in the Blue Line's Washington Street station in early August.

  • A doctoral student in neuroscience????? Wow. Just a while ago, a Northwestern University professor of microbiology murders a guy (former/current lover?) in his apartment with the help of a guy from Oxford?

Not people I'd typically associate with extreme criminal behavior. Bizarre.

The people in need of services still exist and would still be in need of services and still deserve to be served in a convenient central location , such as at the Center on Halsted. . In the eyes of the law, which does count in America, a "no admittance of guilt" clause in a settlement agreement DOES mean not guilty of anything, legally.

Feel free to complain about businesses that may cause you problems, but the important question really is:Do they, as businesses or organizations, break the law themselves? They likely do not. 10% of the City Council including some local aldermen in Lakeview and Uptown are openly LGBT, and Chicago is generally seen around the world as a very LGBT-friendly city. Please see the rainbow pylons that have been around for about a decade, the massive annual pride parade (that the Mayor, aldermen, and even governors attend), the walkable museum to LGBT heroes in Lakeview, the various city, county and state laws, the existence of the Center on Halsted itself ,the nearby Town Hall Senior LGBT Housing development, the LGBT Chamber of Commerce of Illinois , located at 3179 North Clark Street, Not to mention all of the LGBT welcoming churches, schools, and social service agencies in Chicago and especially on the north side.

LGBT people fought , suffered, were jailed, and died against CPD and other police raids, laws targeting of LGBT people, businesses, and institutions, and the abuse and shaming of LGBT people for decades, including media photos of arrestees, and no public displays of affection allowed for gays. That era is hopefully long-gone in Chicago and not coming back. NIMBY's may complain on EveryBlock, Facebook or elsewhere, and even protest pro-LGBT events, businesses or institutions, but you won't get much positive response from elected officials, the police, judges, governmental agencies, local businesses , or the media. Not in this decade and not in this neighborhood, city, county, or state.

  • "In the eyes of the law, which does count in America, a "no admittance of guilt" clause in a settlement agreement DOES mean not guilty of anything, legally."

I wasn't saying it wasn't considered not guilty by law. just saying it does not mean they are not guilty---

I'm guilty of a lot of things the law has not declared me guilty of. It doesn't mean I'm not guilty.

"Feel free to complain about businesses that may cause you problems"

I haven't complained about any businesses causing me problems.

":Do they, as businesses or organizations, break the law themselves? "

    I already answered this.

"Uptown are openly LGBT, and Chicago is generally seen around the world as a very LGBT-friendly city."

    Who's is debating this?

"the massive annual pride parade (that the Mayor, aldermen, and even governors attend), "

Of course they want everyone's vote!

"Not to mention all of the LGBT welcoming churches, schools, and social service agencies in Chicago and especially on the north side."

Of course LGBT people spend money too!
