Alderman Margaret Laurino, 39th Ward added 3 ...

Last Friday Alderman Laurino and Peterson Pulaski Business & Industrial Council Executive Director Janita Tucker joined artist and constituent BJ Krivanek to celebrate his art installations throughout the ward. These installations were commissioned as part of the 2017 Year of Public Art 50x50 Neighborhood Art Project bringing public art to neighborhoods throughout the City of Chicago. BJ's text-based project incorporated answers from community members who responded to a public survey asking questions such as "What community resources and/or personal support systems are most important to you?" and "What things cause you pressure or need to be changed before you can attain a feeling of stability in your daily life?" BJ's installations can be seen in front of the North Park Village at 5801 N Pulaski, in front of the Polish National Alliance at 6100 N Cicero, and adjacent to Sauganash Village at 4301 W Peterson. Thank you to BJ for bringing this wonderful collection to the ward and thank you to the Peterson Pulaski Business & Industrial Council and Edgebrook Sauganash Chamber of Commerce for assisting in outreach. About the Artist: 39th Ward resident BJ Krivanek embraces the multiple roles of designer, art educator, and public artist. He was principal of BJ Krivanek Art+Design, with a clientele ranging from the Union Rescue Mission (Los Angeles) to The Irvine Company, a major developer in California. As founding artistic director of Community Architexts, he implements public art programs which provide a voice for embattled and stigmatized urban communities. He has been awarded a research fellowship by the Graham Foundation (Chicago), an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship, five individual artist grants by the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, three individual grants from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and an individual grant by the National Endowment for the Arts/ Design Arts Program.
