South Side kitchen fire caused death of 24-year-old man

The department tweeted about the incident at about noon Friday. It said the fire occurred on the 8600 block of South Honore Street in the Gresham neighborhood. The fire generated heavy smoke and carbon monoxide.

1 dead, 4 wounded in South Side shootings Thursday

The fatal shooting happened about 4:20 p.m. in the Gresham neighborhood in the 1200 block of West 81st Street.

About 1:30 p.m., a 30-year-old man was shot in the left side of his chest and arm in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. That shooting happened in the 8900 block of South Parnell Avenue. The victim took himself to the Little Company of Mary Hospital. Police said he was being uncooperative.

The latest attack happened shortly after 5:15 p.m. in the Englewood neighborhood in the 5700 block of South Justine Street.

About 4:25 p.m., a 33-year-old man was shot in the left bicep in the West Englewood neighborhood. That shooting happened in the 5700 block of South Paulina Street, police said.

Another man was shot shortly before 2:30 p.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood in the 12500 block of South Wentworth Avenue.

In one shooting, a man was killed in the city’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood when shots were fired from an alley at a group of people standing on Paulina near 88th Street. Another man was injured, but is in stable condition.

He was sitting in a parked vehicle in the 5200 block of South Ashland Avenue when someone got out of a black SUV and fired shots. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

On the Northwest Side, a 50-year-old man was shot in the back in a domestic shooting in the Belmont Central neighborhood, police said. He was in an argument with someone he knew when the person shot him in the 2600 block of North Major Avenue.

A 25-year-old was shot in the arm around 6:45 p.m. in the while standing on the sidewalk in the 10700 block of South Lowe Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.

In the adjacent Fernwood neighborhood, a 29-year-old man was shot in the torso around 11 a.m. in the 10600 block of South Lowe Avenue.

This was an introduction meeting to discuss Metra’s plans for the bridge. But also Alderman Howard Brookins Jr. wanted insight from the community on their ideas for bridge.
