Now that Summer is coming to a close It never ceases to amaze me about what little consideration for the residents who surround Harold Washington Park. Who thought of "No Holds Barred" in the park? The residents at the Hampton House, Del Prado Apartments and East View Towers get the worse of it especially with the Windows open during the warm months. The noise is ridiculous!! You're in the park whether you want to be or not!!! Bar-B-Que, loud music, yelling people, outdoor theatre, Family Reunions and a host of cars who literally drive into the park from other neighborhoods. It's like a National Park. The 51st street end isn't so bad because nothing really goes on at that end. The 53rd street end is the worst being the Port of Hyde Park. Residents who have limited parking to begin with now have to contend with Neighborhood Invaders. Trash thrown everywhere because they don't have to look at it,
with the trash Bins just a few feet away. The person in charge of this park obviously doesn't live no where near it. There are no real rules for this park just about anything goes. If you want to enjoy a nice quiet, smoke free semi-clean neighborhood park (once cleaned) go in the morning. Because by 3pm especially on the weekends it's no longer your neighborhood park.
Hyde Park is getting more and more congested and parking spaces are harder to come by so this unneighborly practice is not appreciated. More than poor planning, it’s an abuse of power.
Hyde Park as a whole has become an overbearing, overcrowded, homogenized, inconsiderate, obnoxious, noisy neighborhood. It is no longer that unique little village it once was. I truly miss you.

  • I agree, I wish the police would ticket the vehicles that park on the sidewalks.
