25 Chicago coffee shops serving up great coffee and character
Chicago is a blessedly caffeinated city, not just thanks to the plethora of coffee behemoths planted on every corner-hello, Starbucks and Peet's-but also thanks to the lovely local coffee shops that adorn our city storefronts.

1472 W Rascher

More of an observation, but has anyone noticed a decline in this property? Seems like there's an unusual amount of people in and out of the building, now 2 broken windows that have been "boarded" over. Also, people are living in the garage behind the building, and it's NOT a coach-house. About 2 weeks ago, there was a Sheriff's vehicle in the alley adjacent to the property. This is immediately behind the Philadelphia Church.

  • I think white is default if you are white. If you are another color I think the color you are is your default color.(hence my experience in.the PO..the employee who directed mevwas black..and he directed me to the white guy). N

Okay, this thread is getting off topic. It's good that people are becoming increasingly "woke" these days. So in that sense, yes -- good & worthwhile commentary. At the same time, I'm never really offended when my black/Asian/gay/BI/tranny/whatever friends refer to me as their token (*insert non-standard whatever-they-and-their-majority-friends-are descriptor*) friend....

At the same time, I'm never really offended when my black/Asian/gay/BI/tranny/whatever friends refer to me as their token (*insert non-standard whatever-they-and-their-majority-friends-are descriptor*) friend. It just is what it is. I realize in a written word forum where everyone may or may not yet know one another many people nowadays are trending either hyper-pc or overly-sensitive on the reaction spectrum, but may I kindly suggest that we all try to be better at once again giving folks the benefit of doubt for our default setting?

Hate has no home here, after all. ❤

People in front of the soon to be Octavio

What are they pitching? I see them across the way but never make it to the west side of Clark St.

  • Ugh. I have no idea but they stop me all the time and honestly they are kind of jerks when I say I can't talk 🙄

  • I don't know about Octavio being "soon to be." They had the door propped open on Thursday, the interior is completely stripped.

There's always a bunch of clip board folks on that block. Various charities looking for donations.

For many, morning coffee is part of the routine-part of waking up. You don't think; you just drink. Still, the expectations for a cup of joe have risen in the last decade. The Starbucks empire helped bring coffee that's a cut above Folgers or Maxwell House to the masses, said Fairgrounds Coffee founder Michael Schultz.
