Albany Park Dog Park

Has there ever been a push to get a dog park installed in Albany Park? Eugene Park and Jensen Park seem like they could accomodate one, and there are a lot of dogs in the area as well. With the slight uptick in the crime around this part of the neighborhood, perhaps something like this would be one way to bring the neighborhood together more, so collectively we can take back the neighborhood.

  • There is an active effort to get a dog friendly area built at Horner Park.

    https://hornerparkdogpark.org/

Dog parks not only need approval from the Park District, they have to be substantially community funded as well as maintained by volunteers. See the FAQ section for more details on this process - it’s not rapid.

  • The horner park group had all the money they needed they recently found out they would need to install turf in the entire area which just increased their costs. They are continuing to raise money. https://hornerparkdogpark.org/

I wonder if this has anything to do with the gang graffiti that was put on the building on the southeast corner of Kimball and Belleplaine? Gang graffiti was wrote in big letters with an arrow pointing down all down the Kimball side of the building. Terrible that someone thinks it's OK to shoot and wreck property!! I think the gang graffiti was already removed. It was disgusting to stand by it to catch my bus. It looked so ugly. This building gets this every year and nobody sees anything as it would have taken quite a while to write the side of this building.

Cars Vandalized

Woke up this morning to not only find my car covered in paint with a construction cone on the hood, but the next two cars across the street behind me were also splashed with paint. My windshield wipers were also mangled and my rear license plate bent up.

  • Wow, that's messed up!

  • Are you part of the Ravenswood Manor facebook group? There has been quite a bit of discussion about vandalism at that intersection. It seems to stem from people parking in a no parking zone. Although said zone is not marked by signs, rater just a yellow curb.
I dont know if that is related to your issue, but it may be somewhat useful to check it out.
    Sorry this happened to you.

The street construction! OMG!

Last night, Sunday 10/07/17, one idiot with a jack hammer was ripping up the street at 9 PM!!! What was that all about? It lasted for 2 or 3 hours -- I know we have to suffer thru' the construction but Sunday NIGHT? Did their work last night have to do with today's being Columbus Day and a federal holiday? I don't know if I can take much more of it.

Not sure if this is someone's cat - he was very friendly and looked healthy - or if "Allie Katz" is some kind of rescue or TNR organization. If not, a very funny coincidence! :) I didn't find any results online. Anyway, if anyone is looking for this kitty, they were hanging around that corner (the alley just south of Wilson, off Christiana) around Noon on Friday. Hope he makes his way back to a safe spot.

  • I dont think it was a TNR cat..they dont wear collars and should have a clipped ear. Guessing Allie Katz is her name

Gunshots and car speeding away?

My Husband and I were woke up about 5am this morning (9/24/2017) by the sound of about six gun shots followed by a car screeching away in the area of Kimball and Sunnyside.

We reported it to the police, but I never heard sirens or anything so I guess no one got shot, or it just wasn't important. But I guess since there is a police camera on the corner of Kimball and Sunnyside they were able to check without sending a car out?

Did anyone else in the area hear this?

There is a store on Montrose and Damen called "Neighborly" they make all kinds of things for lots of different neighborhoods in the city. I would check there for sure. I believe they actually make the merchandise as well so you may be able to request something as well if they don't have it in the store. Also, "Four Sided" on Clark, and I believe it's Ainslie, in Andersonville carries some neighborhood things as well.

Thankfully she knows enough to never open the door when her father and I aren't in the room, but after the person realized people were home he persisted in knocking and ringing and my younger child, especially, became very frightened. I phoned my neighbor who said the guy was asking for signatures for something or other. Seemed legit. But 8:30 on a Monday night? I don't want to invest in a Ring doorbell or more security equipment as we will be moving out of state sooner rather than later, but will a small "No Soliciting" sticker help, do you think? We get a TON of clipboard people on this block.

She is still at the vet clinic where her surgery was done, and they are working with her so she will be able to walk again. I'm not sure when she will be ready for an adoptive home but, when that time comes, the adoption will be done through a no-kill adoption shelter like PAWS. Bike theft, tire slashing, and late night confrontation in one week: Lawerence/Lawndale

Not a good week- caught a bike theft in action (5 am Saturday) but was unable to prevent a quick saw and run. They just grabbed him (no weapon or theft) and yelled before he broke away.

We moved here two months ago...welcome to the neighborhood?

Beatrice is a calico/brown tabby mix, approximately 8 years old. She is microchipped (Paws #981020017770914).

She tends to nip when bothered, so if you've rescued her please be careful. Let me know and I'll come and pick her right up! Thank you.

You are Tokyo, suckers!

If rich old white men like Madigan and Rauner were being hurt by this impasse, it would have been resolved yesterday. But it damages the poor, the struggling young — who rely on public universities and colleges that are dropping staff, injecting furlough days into their academic calendars, and, in general, suffering on starvation rations. Plus those with disabilities, victims of crime, and all the unfortunates who must fall back onto a safety net that both men are pawning to the rope merchant.

Godzilla never seems to care about Tokyo being crushed beneath him
Seven hundred days? Where has the time gone? That's easy. Washed over the waterfall of wasted opportunity. With the entire state of Illinois soon to follow, battered on rocks, then breaking apart as it plunges into the frothing financial abyss. Unless . . . . Well, unless nothing.

  • Not a new crisis, just more epic each day it drags on. IL government needs an overhaul -- one that doesn't toss out the STATE along with the bathwater.

Madigan is a scourge and needs to go! Absolutely. There's no denying it!

Rauner walked into a mess determined to wrangle it into shape. Super - Go Bruce!

But holding the state budget hostage, while other forms of leverage to enact his reform agenda exist, has further damaged the state and deepens its debt daily.

In business, losing strategies are replaced by new ones until positive results are achieved. That's what's lacking in Rauner's leadership; responsive governance.

Sadly, the premise in the OP article is true; these two men can drive the state to complete ruin and they'll each come away unscathed. Only the taxpayers are hurt.

IL legislators across party lines have failed us in failing to meet fiscal and financial obligations, largely in favor of their self-interest, for nearly 30 yrs. Madigan is the linchpin throughout. Good overview of what got IL into this mess in the attached Reuters/dot/com link under headings "'ILLINOIS MATH'" and "A DOWNHILL RAMP" in which Edgar's comments hint at the ensuing failures to meet obligations.

  • how long has mr madigan been in office?
what can we say about his accomplishments if the end result is current state of illinois.

Haugen grammar school

Thank you Haugen grammar school for cutting your grass and using a leaf blower at 6:45am. It is going to be a long day!

  • MKW in Lincoln Square 25 years in the Square

That might not have been the school - it could be landscapers hired by the school. In any case, they're not supposed to do it before 8 am, I believe. Had this problem too on a Saturday a few years ago - Christy Webber was out there at 630 am....

Had this problem too on a Saturday a few years ago - Christy Webber was out there at 630 am. I emailed them with the ordinance and got a response back, apologizing. If you can, get the name of the landscaper and contact them. They can be ticketed and fined. And, same goes for garbage companies and dumpsters - they're not allowed before 7 am.
