Loud Music between Melrose and Aldine. What's the proper way to address this?

So I've only lived here about a month but it's usually really quiet and I know my building engineer really talked up the quiet of our building and how he sees to it people kee it down. Now it's only just before 9 and Friday but someone has been blasting some awful pop music (same awful singer song after song and occasionally I hear some guy singing along). It seems to only be getting louder. I just can't tell if it's even coming from my building since my apartment faces the parking lots/ garage/ and alley between my building and the one behind me.

I don't know exactly what the rules are as far as a noise ordinance and I'm frankly kind of surprised given how many others are around that no one else has complained. I've been really ill all day so my tolerance for this is probably lower than normal and I'd just like to go to bed. Not anyone else's issue I want to sleep at 9pm but it sounds like someone is partying inside my apartment. Not pleasant.

Call the cops? Or do I even have any right to complain since it's still kind of early? Contemplating trying my building engineer but sometimes calling him is a bit awkward in general and don't know for sure it's my building but assuming so by the sheer volume of it.

Noise ordinances don't kick in until 10 pm so you are out of luck until then. Honestly, unless it becomes a regular thing and/or is during quiet hours, I would not do anything. With buildings so close together, it happens from time to time. If it does become regular, try and nail down where it is coming from and start with the landlord. IMO, jumping to the cops for a one time incident before 9 pm is a bit much.

Yes, but I know too how annoying and disruptive that can be. Try to find out where its coming from and if its not your building see if you can get the number of the manager of the other. Then if it happens again call them. But yes I would wait until 10pm.

Thanks. I was seeing conflicting info online on whether the noise ordinance began at 9 or 10. It was much harder to handle because I was feeling so unwell, not usually one to complain but if I do see my building engineer around soon I may bring in up just in case someone else has as well, suspect it was either above or below me in this building as I wandered out into the hall and didn't seem to be coming from my floor. At least they did finally shut it down just before 10!
