3 flat. Looking to paint some iron/metal gates and staircases. Any contractor suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • I'd go with a small business or sole proprietor or handyman type for best price and attention to detail. I do my own iron painting so can't vouch for any service provider, BUT Mr. Jefferson Koegel of Portage Park -- is a local homeowner & his work is reasonably priced according to EB Neighbors. Can't hurt to inquire, and he provides free quotes.

My client hired Bill West recently to get a lot of handyman work done prior to going to market for sale and he and his partner did a fantastic job. They were timely and affordable and he is local to Jeff Park area and has good recommendations, she found him on NextDoor. 847-477-2963. Best of luck!

  • Jen, I might want to contact Bill West for a few things down the road. Can you share info on scope of work btwn him and your client?

  • Call Mike Cloutier at Bucktown Painting and Remodeling. Very professional and great work. 773-410-1890

NW-Sider- sure, he did interior painting that included patching some large holes actually, changed out light fixtures and switches, and also replaced a faucet. Small stuff actually. But, I've now had him bid out two more projects for me and he does everything from handyman work as described (also will power wash and seal decks, paint railings) but they also can do complete remodels of kitchens and baths, etc. They've done a lot of house flipping according to Bill, so pretty much sounds like they can do just about anything, just no major plumbing, masonry or electric. He has referrals for those things. So far I like him. I'm always looking for good handymen in my line of work. Can't have too many because they come and go, get busy, etc. ;)

  • Thank you Jen!! If/when we ever sell, you'll be on the short list of realtors we interview. Bill West sounds like someone we could use getting to know and getting some things done with. Thanks again.

Calabrese & NW Sider- I am very sad to have to share that I just got an email last night from one of Bill West's family members. He was in a horrible accident in Michigan last week, spent the week in a hospital and is now home, but jaw is wired shut and there will be months of recovery for him. I am shocked and saddened. I just wanted you to know should you try to reach out to him at this time. Thanks also NW-sider for your kind words. I would be honored should you ever need my services. Meanwhile, find happiness in each and every day! Life surely can change on a dime....

  • Jen - Ouch, that's awful. I feel for him and his family. Also very relieved he survived the accident. What little we need done can await his recovery and any of physically taxing bits can easily wait until the heat of summer passes.

We value integrity and your sincerity and honesty are evident in your posts, Jen. You're welcome. Working with ppl like yourself is actually a favor to ourselves.
