    What a great response!

  • Don't forget about Chicago Snow Corps, a volunteer program that matches those in need of help shoveling with those who volunteer to shovel. It's a great idea, run through 311:

  • DanP2 Neighborly neighbor...

It's a great morning to read all the responses of acts of kindness....make me feel real good!! Thank you all.

  • @nkot, thanks for the link. All signed up!

  • Thank you for joining up, Justin! I love shoveling (& sweeping), but am a bit relieved to know that I'm not the Snow Corp's only volunteer:

Snow Corp, 311, background checks, blah blah blah.

How hard is it to just be neighborly?

  • I understand your questions, but have you been out to some parts of the city where neighbors are few & far between, thedrickster? As the babyboom generation ages, there are also neighborhoods where half the block isn't able to shovel. That's a lot for neighbors to handle, especially in a big storm event. Don't be too hard on a city that is trying to use its 311 number to help its citizens help one another to comply safely with the ordinance.
