I'm not seeing it in the news yet but apparently a young man was mugged Saturday night and has now died from the head trauma he sustained. A friend of his posted this on facebook. "He was found early Saturday morning at the Loyola station in Chicago. He was laying at the bottom of the stairs with his wallet missing and with serious head trauma."
This is all the info I have and just wanted my neighbors to be aware.

There was a shooting blocks away ~9 pm Saturday night.

  • Live From Rogers Park

Beergoggles650 posted "Man dies after getting mugged at Loyola redline" based on what he "saw on a friend's Facebook page". There have been no reports from the Chicago Police, ABC, NBC, WGN or FoxNews. Bruce can you provide any news source at all other than rumors at This sounds like more fake news and its already two days after. Please don't post more rumors or gossip.

  • Very real story. Not fake news. The man died yesterday. I'm sure the murder will go unreported as such and be classified as an accident. Camera at the station was not functioning either. His name was Julian Hall.

WTF....was he a bartender by chance? Terrible news.

  • Bruce_ Comment by TBD, whom you've muted

Definitely a familiar face. RIP Mr. Hall.

He used to work in Uptown, has friends here.

How are his family and friends asking us to remember him? Will there be a service or charity to honor his life?

  • diana Life is short. Death is long. Act accordingly.

Jeffrey, yes, Julian was a bartender around the city. His friends are devastated.

Bruce, nothing is planned just yet, but I'm sure there will be a big party to celebrate his life.

This is a heartbreaking story. He was loved by many and there are a lot of people hurting over this. Tell your loved ones you love them; you never know when your time is up.

    RIP JH.

Thanks Diana, this is very tragic.

  • Diana, I have a question about this incident...would you be able to private message me? I can't seem to message you.

  • Live From Rogers Park

Eric Julian Hall, originally from Jasper, Indiana was known by many as a bartender at The Bar on Buena in Uptown and also The Green Lady on Lincoln Avenue in Lakeview. Death notices have not yet appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times or the Dubois County Herald (Jasper, IN).

  • There has yet to be a determination as to what actually happened.

Did someone claim the camera was broken? There is more than one, plus a chance he was followed off the train there would be the onboard right?

  • @jefferylittleton they couldn't pull footage yesterday due to holiday.

  • What the hell is going on in chicago so sad for this young man.

  • Bruce_ Comment by TBD, whom you've muted

I would have expected some alert, announcement or any thing asking for help.
Just reinforces that crime is only worthy if it is political.

  • What heartbreaking news.

  • Rob

How about in reinforces that the powers that be need to figure out what happened first?

  • headsup not available

why was the camera not working? how often are these camera looked at that one could go bad and not be noticed?
Does this put the city in a liability situation?

  • I don’t think there is a question about the cameras working. Still waiting to hear more on what transpired.

    As a constituent I see
1000's of kids flow through that el stop.
    To recap.
Has someone died between x,y at location? If so ask anyone with info contact...

    Condolences pending notification.

There is question on whether the cameras caught anything but the lack of news is probably telling of that as well

  • d3 NOH

The other thing is there should be camera footage from within his train car itself.

  • Thats a shame Lou..i usually walk around looking like a homeless person so people leave me alone ..and always have a weapon of some sort safe my friend

  • The unfortunate event above was an accident.

  • Juan de Rosa Food & Beverage Management at Marriott Hotels Inte

Wow! I have lived in RP for 10 years now and have never had a problem. I like the diversity here. Though I'm aware of the violence that can happen. Just several weeks ago a lady and her husband were on Morse at the redline station. The lady was shot dead in a drive by.

  • Any reason there hasn't been news coverage of this? Loyola trying to make the area look safer?

  • Update here from a friend of the victim who posted on FB:
    • The man was not mugged
    • The video system worked fine
    • Police reviewed the video
    • The man fell down the stairs without any witnesses there to help
    • Thieves came by minutes later and stole his wallet

  • Citizen Pain Citizen Pain

    Too many uncivilized.

  • headsup not available

a guy is down and evidently unable to respond - and someone steals his wallet. Not what you would call a "first class" response. Shameful. They should be caught and charged with murder as they could have instead called for assistance and saved his life.

  • Citizen Pain Citizen Pain

If only 'without any witnesses there to help' could have been combined with ' came by minutes later' perhaps this man would still be alive. Uncivilized.

  • Jeffrey Littleton Sheridan Park Neighbors Administrator

There has to be a criminal charge for taking a wallet from a dying man, that is seriously twisted, evil, and wrong.

@Jeffrey Littleton - Fascinating question. In no way do I want to minimize the tragedy of an accidental death and I agree that taking an advantage of such a situation is a pretty sad commentary. Still, is there a crime if there is no complaint?

The ethical issues seem pretty obvious regardless.

  • Helen NoH North of Howard for 55 + years

Thats an interesting question, Michael. Perhaps the deceased's heirs could file a complaint.

  • Jeffrey Littleton Sheridan Park Neighbors Administrator

It seems beyond unethical, but yea... someone would have to sign a complaint. It's frustrating, heartbreaking this particular case.

  • Michael Archangel First - 13 Russian nationals; Next - US enablers

    Completely agree, Jeffrey.
