Reported outage to 311 and seeclickfix the first night. Interesting how the city has all kinds of funding to travel to go after Amazon and do art installations but simple safety repairs require request after request. Saw people out walking their pups last 2 nights with flashlights. Feel sorry for folks who have to come and go for work after dark.
PortageRules, I have been noticing street lights out for many months now. By my friend's home in River North, sometimes on stretches of LSD, and most recently 2 weeks ago on Clark St between Addison and Montrose at 10 pm! Scary to see several young women walking across that desolate stretch by the cemetery in complete darkness. I think these are intentional rolling blackouts, but yours sounds like a mechanical problem. When I lived in Uptown in the 90's we experienced many rolling blackouts. Residents finally got together to protest and it stopped. I am wondering if this is happening again as a cost saving measure.
I really don't think that the city has the ability to do rolling blackouts on just a section of street lights. Usually a section out means a problem with the wires. Also, they do not pay electric by usage. It is a flat fee. They do not have higher bills when lights are on all day. Your protests probably got the necessary repairs done.
It is. The alley light behind 5412 is still out. But, that light might require more work as the kids who congregate around there like to randomly throw rocks and they may have hit it like they did my house recently.
