Speaking of parking issues in Rogers Park... an old gentleman across the street on North Shore has a designated handicap spot. When he returns from wherever, he parks in his spot. Then, as soon as an adjacent spot opens up he removes his placard from the window and moves his car there, taking up an extra space.

I fume every time I see this. What’s his deal? Does he just like an unobstructed view of the street? And, (yes, I know you can’t always tell), he doesn’t seem to have a disability.

It just apppears selfish and un-neighborly.

    I commented this,

"so let's say you don't drive and you don't even have a driver's license. You get old or ill or lose your mobility and so instantly you can get a handicapped parking spot for your twice a week services and deprive your neighbors of a parking spot?"

Getting a reserved parking spot for the use of people other than a handicapped driver is parking spot abuse.

But you don't like that it's mentioned.

Interesting that two of the most ardent neighbors routinely crusading for the rights of the individual are now voicing concerns for the rights of the collective. I guess that the issue of parking in Rogers Park makes one's ideology fluid.

  • Phill I don’t know why you’re are assuming I was responding to you, especially when I directed my post to Patrick Quinn.. unless you’re two people in one I never said it was ok for people to get spots for “service people”. That’s just plain ignorant on that persons part and I again would take it up with someone to investigate it.. otherwise that completely sucks. Maybe my message fell below your message but my comment had nothing to do with your comment. I’m not a bad personality like that

Coco23, but you didn't like that comment. It bothers you.

  • Phill now you’re making me laugh cuz I have no idea where you lost communication or maybe we both did. Peace out ✌️

  • There is handicap parking spot abuse on the block behind me. It is all apartment buildings (4 flats) and there are at least (6) handicap spots. And they are hardly used. I understand the frustration looking for a parking spot and when you drive down this street, it makes you even madder. It's disgusting!

  • Bruce_ Comment by TBD, whom you've muted

Even worse is when potential spaces are occupied by Divy.

  • headsup not available

@bruce -your comment makes no sense-bikes need to be tied up to something and would never be left free standing in street spots- your veracity is concerning

No one would believe someone would leave a divvy bike unattached as they are responsible if it is stolen -YIKES

  • Bruce_ Comment by TBD, whom you've muted

The Divy kiosk occupies the parking spaces.

  • headsup not available

Then it is no longer a parking space -it has been redesigned for a higher purpose -think of how many bikes are getting that parking space versus one car. If you have a car in the city you should rent a parking space -parking problem solved

  • Bruce_ Comment by TBD, whom you've muted

Plenty of places to put the kiosk besides on the street.

  • Helen NoH North of Howard for 55 + years

Except we've been through this before and the place Bruce has in mind was not a parking spot; it was a no parking zone. See Bob Fuller's comments on July 3 at

Meanwhile, Bruce still hasn't learned how to spell Divvy.

  • Maggie neff

And Helen still hasn't learned that calling attention to a typo or misspelling is petty and rude.

  • That's right. Parking in Rogers Park, as in many other neighborhoods, is always a challenge and there is no need to go creating fake news about LAZ and fake parking problems that don't exist and never did exist. The Divvy rack next to the Morse Red Line station is a well planned and well sited installation which enhances the neighborhood.

  • Bruce_ Comment by TBD, whom you've muted

Those were parking spaces before the reside on Morse turned them into loading zones. Back when it was the Block building.

  • More fake news. Reside On Morse is a residential building with studio, one and two bedroom apartments and no commercial or retail operations that would qualify for a loading zone permit. Let's try spinning a new story because this one just got an "F" for fake.

  • Jeffrey Littleton If you can't be a poet, be the poem.

Isn't the Divvy station in from of Reside apts.?

  • RPforlife

So glad i have a designated spot..this thread is really getting interesting..lol no its not ..

  • Bruce_ Comment by TBD, whom you've muted

The Divy kiosk is on the street. There is another loading zone on Lunt for Reside.

  • Rob

Arguments about parking spaces are Rogers Park online at its best.

  • RPforlife

Its Divvy ..for the love of God ...it has two V's..got your back Helen ..

  • Bruce_ Comment by TBD, whom you've muted

  • Maggie neff

    Lol. Good lookin' out, RP.

  • Bruce_ Comment by TBD, whom you've muted

Just like in the Bud light commercial. Divy divy.

RP - also on Everyblock are a few holier than thou hypocrites who have decided they need to go about policing others.

  • @tspenc Gaming the system is a big con act around the world. Unfortunately, the cons who game the system give a bad rap to the vast majority of decent people who legitimately deserve assistance. We see it all over. There are people who have no disability but claim parking privileges. Some people with CHA vouchers either share or give away their apartments to others who don't or shouldn't qualify for assistance. There even is fraud in something as innocuous as the arts when assistance is given to freeloaders who obviously aren't or can't legitimately make a living by selling art. Every con takes support away from one other person who legitimately deserves assistance.

Thanks maggie i saw your comment which has now been deleted..i dont see it on here but saw it in an email i get from every block..im not a big supporer of Joe Moore..i have complained many times over my buildings parking issues with the church blocking my alley and blocking cars that are parked in our private lot..not to mention they park in our spots and swear at us and call us names if we dare say anything.. two weeks ago somebody from the church was parked in one of our private spots to which by the way we have signs all over that say Lincoln Towing and private parking.. and when I asked him nicely to move he just ran to the car got his cigarettes and went back to the church lot .. then I waited I was on the phone with Lincoln Towing and he came back out and moved his car and proceeded to yell at me and told me I need to relax and calm down and I wasn't even yelling... one person told my neighbor and I that we have nothing better to do with expletives in the middle of that and called us Muslims which neither one of us are but he used it as a slur because we must be Muslims if we don't let them park there..also , the laat straw with Moore i had was when the teacher was murdered and when RP had the vigil he stated that things dont change overnight...hes been alderman since 1999...sorry i was long winded ..but i could go on forever ..

  • Rob

    I'll bet you could.

Michael, you noticed. Specifically, the topic of this thread was handicapped parking spaces. I don't think that subject has been mentioned since early Monday.
