Flags are requested to be placed at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday, May 22. Unable to lower your flag? Attaching a black ribbon to the top of a U.S. flag (see pic) is an acceptable alternative for flags that cannot be lowered to half-staff.

The full Presidential Proclamation is below. If you have questions or need more information, please reach out to

Our Nation grieves with those affected by the shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas. May God heal the injured and may God comfort the wounded, and may God be with the victims and with the victims’ families. As a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the terrible act of violence perpetrated on May 18, 2018, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, May 22, 2018. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this eighteenth day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand eighteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-second.

"Thoughts and prayers" are good but what we really need is more effective gun control regulations, regulations that are effective and also don't trod on the 2nd Amendment.

So far in 2018, there have already been 42 school shootings, and more than 200 children have been killed or injured by guns.

We need to start taking action:

  • No source that I have found has such inflated numbers. Please cite your source to corroborate.

  • Tony B in RP neighbor @ Lunt

No form of "gun control" regulation would have prevented the Santa Fe shooting.

What bugs me is that this new mentally challenged kid was making pipe bombs at home and the parents didn't notice! NO PARENTING???

There are numerous citations. Here's one:

    and another:

What isn't mentioned here is that the deaths attributed to school shootings outnumber the servicepeople killed in war this year.

I'm sure you know how to do a search for statistics, don't you, Jimmy? Your superior attitude shows that you should.

"What isn't mentioned here is that the deaths attributed to school shootings outnumber the servicepeople killed in war this year."

Thank you for posting that information; I didn't know that.

  • Tomorrow is another day - I don't t know where you are coming from with the "superior attitude' stuff, but I am better informed than most. To answer your question though, I read both links 2 days ago. Thanks for posting since they contradict Bobs uncorroborated stats. I am also aware of the links about military versus school shooting death numbers, but it is a given that you are comparing apples and oranges. Soldiers are trained and armed their encampments do not have gun-free-zone signs posted on the perimeter.

  • You know Jimmy Mac and Bob, people really don't enjoy your endless back and forth and condescension toward each other. Knock it off and be civil.

  • If you'll notice, bob is the one that instigates confrontation by turning every post into an anti-gun tirade.

  • It matters not who "instigates it;" the point is that the two of them are relentlessly engaged in one-upping the other, and are well..... boringly argumentative. Many of us are tired of ANY kind of tirade that emanates from barely hidden hostility and "attitude." Such as, "but I am better informed than most."

So, try something new; ignore each other. Gee whiz, it's nice...:)

  • Tony B in RP neighbor @ Lunt

It's obvious that Bob Kastigar doesn't like that we own guns and that our right to do so is constitutionally protected. I hast to burn bad.

  • Know me as a Stature Informed Resident - I made a single post here requesting Bob to cite a source to corroborate his numbers. How was my request in any way condescending or uncivil? I merely wanted to know from where Bob was getting his numbers. You will note that he produce so you can spar me the lecture..

[better] informed and hostility or attitude are not synonyms. Better informed was a statement of fact, especially where Bob and the issue of guns is concerned. No attitude was intended. I don't know if you can speak on behalf or the "many", but your point is well taken. All the bickering probably does annoy some. Perhaps I should ignore BOB since he is not worthy of the attention I've given him. That said, you should have noticed a change in my recent posts as I have made a concerted effort to be more brief, less argumentative, and more polite. If you feel that I have not succeeded, you can always take your own advice and ignore us both or there is always the mute option.

I made two posts, one was to thank the previous poster.

  • interesting that someone whose chosen alter-ego is "know me as informed" would take issue with someone who says they are "better informed".

  • Michael Archangel First - 13 Russian nationals; Next - US enablers

@Bob Kastigar - The problem with "thoughts and prayers" is that they do nothing to temper man's inhumanity to man.

  • Beezil dear....I don't proclaim my's not necessary for anybody to do so.....over and out.

  • ...and for clarification, my "moniker" is related to my former role as a block club president for 2.5 years. So, "Statute Informed?" Yes, I know city statutes and many I have downloaded. That's a necessity when you're dealing with building owners, complaining residents, businesses, construction crews, 250 club members, etc. If one needs info, then it's good to be able to direct him/her to the source.
