Is anybody interested in being part of an informal group to periodically clean up the garbage along Elston near the State of IL driver facility and the Forest Glen Metra station? I pick up litter from time to time, but I think a team effort might yield better results. It's almost as if somebody fueled by Red Bull and vitamin water is making a purposeful effort to repopulate the area with trash.

  • I'd be interested. Are there trash cans along that strip? (I can't remember off hand.) If not, who can we talk to about getting some out on the corners?

You might also want to contact the Animal Hospital that's up in that direction. I bet some of the small businesses might be willing to help out too. Dirty streets tends to deter business.

The Forest Glen Animal Hospital might be worth approaching. They keep things pretty tidy around their property. Unfortunately, some of the business tenants in the area are part of the problem. I guess they must be doing so well that appearances don't matter.

Unfortunately, there are no public trashcans, so I've been stuck using my own. Up to now, that's limited how much I can remove at any one time. I assume the alderman's office should be able to make some available, but that means making sure they get added to a pick-up route.
