I'm talking about the incredibly nice, amazingly enthusiastic, truly wonderful, and infinitely patient CTA CA Janet. I wish the CTA could clone her and use her throughout the system. People would LOVE to ride! Unfortunately that's not possible. Fortunately Kedzie folks have her and love her and she loves us.

Since she's so awesome I was thinking that maybe we could celebrate it. People could bring her flowers and candy and whatever else so she knows how much she's appreciated. I'm thinking somewhere in the next week or two.

Sounds like a great idea. Let us know how it goes...

How about the 14th? Everyone could use the middle of the week boost.

  • gerigirl I live and breathe this city!

RYAN.....Just letting you know, that I found this post regarding the 14th in my spam mail....not my if you don't get much of a response, that could be the reason....I check my spam daily because a lot of EVERYBLOCK posts end up there!

  • Luci in Rogers Park Dog Lover, living in Rogers Park for 26 years

For some reason, all of the EveryBlock emails come in through my Spam area of my emails too!!!

  • Definitely call and e-mail the CTA with your positive will go into her personnel file. You might also want to contact Tracy Schwartz of the Red Eye. She has featured another popular CA at the Clinton Green line stop. You can't walk by him without saying good morning.

  • Wonderful idea -- Is there any way you could post a notice at the station for the riders who do not use Everyblock? Definitely notify CTA and the Red Eye Paper. What a great idea.

  • I LoVe Janet!!! I no longer live in Chicago and I definitely miss seeing her happy face each morning. What a nice gesture to show how much everyone appreciates her happiness in the morning! She says good morning to everyone.

  • Ryan Decrepit young man

A notice at the station is a good idea but I think it would be cool to surprise her. This doesn't have to be crazy big. Just a card or note or whatever else you feel is right on your way to wherever you're going. A stream of appreciation and happiness. :)

  • Thumbs up for the 14th! It's my daughter's birthday too, so it'll be an all around great day!!!

  • loraine t washington 5 yr. resident

there is a lady @ t the rosemont station the same way. i always make sure she has a paper everyday. and i bring her coupons for food.

  • how do I find this woman and do a video story on her?

  • She for sure works every morning during the weekdays at the Kedzie Brown Line stop. You can't miss her :-)

  • Amanda S. Albany Park resident

I love Janet and I'm down for this! She brightens my morning. I can't do the 14th as I won't be around that day but will definitely participate and bring her something that week (without ruining the surprise.)

Thanks for coordinating this effort of loveliness!

  • Great - thanks Nisha!

  • acg Downtown denizen

Maybe 10 years ago now, there was a traffic control aide (I don't think he was Chicago Police) stationed every morning at Washington & Wacker who was the most friendly and helpful guy you'd ever encounter, and got a flattering writeup in the Chicago Sun-Times one day saying exactly that. (Not just a Letter to the Editor, but an article about him, though the details escape me now.)

If you want to do something good for CTA CA Janet, use your best salesmanship skills to see if you can get a columnist interested in writing an item about her.

  • loraine t washington 5 yr. resident

contact CTA's media department. the headquarters is @ clinton and lake. there is a really nice lady named tina who works there. she should be able to help you. good luck. enjoy your day.

HEY EVERYBLOCKERS>>>>>How about a shout out of "GET WELL SOON"....TO LARAINE T. WASHINGTON....she fell and fractured her right forearm....I think hearing from fellow EVERYBLOCKERS would speed up the healing process...Thanks!

  • Ryan Decrepit young man

I wonder if we can make it a citywide thing? It looks like there are a few more good apples out there that need to know how much we appreciate them.

  • EveryBlock Becca Director of Community Management

    What a great thread!

The CTA forwarded this ( tweet from neighbor Kevin to their 7,000+ followers.

  • By the way (I won't be in town on the 14th) someone bring her a nice big bag to collect all her cards and goodies.

  • Good thinking Barbara! I'll bring her a bag when I swing by :-)

  • @Becca, are you saying you like this thread better than the "Speed cameras on Foster" thread? :-)

  • loraine t washington 5 yr. resident

WOW! thank you guys for all your prayers. this made my day.

  • loraine t washington 5 yr. resident

I guess our secret is out! At least we didn't set the date for her day off. :) I'm glad I started the thread so all of us could come together like this. The neighborhood might have some problems but it has good stuff too and here it is!

  • My husband told me earlier today that someone called the bike shop for me from RedEye and that her name was Tracy.... *ding ding ding* ...had a feeling it was about this!

Maybe more people will contribute on the 14th now :-) beyond everyblock!

  • Shelly Lifelong suburbanite, now in Galewood, via Lakeview

Nisha-My guess: Tracy Swartz, who writes a Going Public column for Red Eye. :) I'll look for your name in tomorrow's red eye!

  • Hey Ryan, chatted with Janet just now...she'd like for you to stop by and say hello when you can, in fact, everyone here should :-)

We are still on for the 14th right? Even though she knows it's coming?

  • Ryan Decrepit young man

It's so on! :) I'm on new pain meds so I'm hoping I can take part in the fun.

  • Alright y'all, tomorrow is Janet Appreciation Day! Let's do this :-)

  • And tomorrow, my baby turns two!!!!! Aw :-( / :-)

  • At the risk of sounding redundant - please take pictures and share! (Thanks! :)

  • I forgot to take a picture :-(

  • Chris count the rings round my eye

Nisha, could you tell us about Janet's reaction when you get time? Thanks!

  • loraine t washington 5 yr. resident

    nice meeting you chris.

  • Hi! Well, I brought her flowers this morning and screamed "HAPPY JANET APPRECIATION DAY" when I came in :-) She smiled and gave me a hug - said "thank you" and said that she really truly appreciates all of the kind words that everyone has had to say. She also said that her husband made her start a scrapbook and she put the RedEye article in there :-)

I left a giftbag for her as well so she can carry her goodies home. She had already received a box of truffles by the time I got there this morning. Hopefully she got some more goodies throughout the morning too! :-)

  • Ryan Decrepit young man

I'm so sad that I missed everything.

  • gerigirl I live and breathe this city!

Ryan....don't be sad for a may not have gone......but you will never be forgotten for helping this to come together! Reason for me!

  • Amanda S. Albany Park resident

I stopped by with a card and little token and got a hug in return. Made my day :) Ryan, thanks so much for starting this post and chain of awesomeness. I hope you feel better soon.

  • Ryan Decrepit young man

I'm glad everyone got some goodness out of this.

  • I think a Ryan Appreciation Day is in order :-)

  • Ryan Decrepit young man

I get enough appreciation from my fiancee and my cats. That is plenty for me. :)

  • Ryan Decrepit young man

I got a chance to visit the station today. Janet was very very happy with the show of appreciation. She was surprised at how much and how many cared. Thanks to everyone for making this happen!

  • gerigirl I live and breathe this city!
