Greetings My Neighbors!

Following an outstanding 2nd Annual MLK Day Dinner Northwest this last Monday, double the size of our Inaugural 2017 Dinner and with a whole bunch of new Northwest neighbors joining us, Unity in Community now turns its attention to our first supported activity of 2018: The Chicago Women's March to be held on Saturday, January 20. Kick-off is at 11 AM but with the crowds expected you've got to get down there much earlier. Men of all ages are entirely welcome to attend.

Unity in Community leader Nancy Kerstein will be carrying our Unity in Community Northwest Area - city and surburbs - banner during the march. Community members interested in going should let us know either via this post or email us at Jac.Charlier@gmail.com. We'll connect up as a Northwest grouping (if you are not attending with another group already). More info is here: http://womens121marchonchicago.org/

Unity in Community is a citizen-led initiative creating an open civic space in our Northwest Area for civil conversation and shared action about race, gender, and diversity. Want more info? Contact Jac Charlier at jac.charlier@gmail.com. We are on Facebook too.

  • No unity here--the so called "women's march" is for a those who can't accept the results of the democratic presidential election in Nov 2016. Last year's version featured spoiled brat celebrities who openly discussed assassinating the president who later went on to reveal the men in the entertainment industry who behaved totally sexually inappropriately, all of whom voted for the wife of a man who behaved totally sexually inappropriately. And said wife covered up for him, enabled him.
But this is a free country and you're entitled to act the fool. I will spend my week end more productively, celebrating the one year anniversary of a presidential inauguration which has brought new prosperity and new hope to the nation--especially to people outside the media bubble.

  • robin in WRP I support a 28th Amendment 4Free & Fair Elections!

good - what about the 50% of the country not invested in the stock market? What about Tax paying citizens, brought here as small children, being forcibly removed from the country the call home and sent to a country where they have no ties? What about the children about to lose healthcare? North and South Korea will join together at the Olympic, and Hawaii and the West Coast are under threat of attacks.

How is increasing poverty and decreasing safety good for the Country?

  • Part II:
(Incidentally, we are all minorities--those "white skinned privileged" people have Italian, Irish, Polish, Greek, Jewish, etc ancestors who came here legally, learned the language and worked long and hard in factories, coal mines, etc for very little. They gave much and got little from the government. And no, they didn't own slaves--Jimmy Carter's, Bill Clinton's ancestors did but we're paying for it.)
These illegal alien immigrant children were forcibly removed from the country of their birth by their illegal immigrant alien parents and thus have many ties to their native lands via language, religion and culture--and few here. Indeed, many of them proudly "resist" American culture such as language while proudly taking what they can.
And now for your truly disconnected reasoning:
The two Koreas joining together is a good sign as it reduces tensions between the two Koreas, opening up another area of communication between the two. Hopefully it will be the beginning of the end of the evil system in N Korea which is horribly destroying
    its citizenry.
Hawaii and the West Coast have always been under threat of attacks--perhaps you've heard of Pearl Harbor? Under Obama, our military funding and vigilance were reduced; Trump is increasing it and thus our safety.

  • why you come here to troll us “good neighbor”? nobody forcing you to participate. this is a positive event for those wishing to attend amidst the overwhelming news the past few months about atrocities against women.

  • Jac Charlier AKA Citizen Jac Citizen-led solutions for better community

For those going, see you at the Women's March...

@good neighbor - Unity in Community's mission is to have these conversations and then, where we agree, have shared action. For those in Unity in Community, the Women's March is a good fit. I invite you to join with us in what we will do for our next action. We are NW side based and so reflect, in part, the NW side. We also reflect, in part, where we come from, family, experience, ect... For me, I grew up on the NW side and so have a lot of that wired into me.

Next, as to the D and R politics of it, yup, that can certainly come up in our conversations, and the reality of where we are now means it's there, no doubt. Still, for Unity in Community we look at the longer run and say in the past neither party has been all good or all bad on race and gender equality, and inclusion. That means the path forward is the conviction of equality, the value of diversity, the goal of inclusion and with whomever we need to roll to get that boulder up the hill, we shall. As I like to say, Unity in Community is working towards "our nation's first and best promise - that we are all indeed created equal!"

if you like, send me your email (jac.charlier@gmail.com) and I'll add you (and anybody else on this thread) to our email list. We're also on FB (Unity in Community Northwest).

    Jac

  • I used to come to EveryBlock for useful information from my neighborhood, like this post about community support and involvement from Jac. But it has recently turned into Facebook 2.0 with Russian trolls in #MAGA hats spewing hate on everything. Done following this post. Sorry if my comments also turned others off since the post started off with a well-meaning call to action.

  • Phill "Obama wants to know everything"

    Why are comments being deleted?
robin in WRP writes "What about Tax paying citizens, brought here as small children, being forcibly removed from the country the call home and sent to a country where they have no ties?"
She made a mistake there. Those aren't citizens, their legal status is "Illegal Alien".
    Not "off topic". Thanks.

  • @Phil: Right on! Is EveryBlock becoming part of the Fake News network? If a comment does not conform to their agenda it's deleted? Of course I suspect no one will see this because it also will be deleted. We'll see.
