Named after its owner and culinary institute trained chef Tony Jamaica, TJam Kitchen at 1418 W. Howard (773-381-8011) is a gem. Though it sways to a Latin rhythm, the menu is influenced by European, North and South American cuisine. The variety at TJam will delight omnivores, carnivores, veggies and vegans alike. Also enjoy the upbeat decor and original art work of co-owner and professional artist Lidoska Guietti. And be sure to check out each day's specials.

I've been here twice and really love the food. Tony is a gracious host. Unlike so many places today, the atmosphere is reasonably quiet so that it's easy to converse with your companions. It's BYOB so if you indulge, bring your own beverage.

I'm hosting a "Follow Me on Friday" event at TJam tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. We'll also have a ribbon cutting marking their official grand opening. I hope you can make it.

I was there at lunch with several friends last week. Good good food. Took a order of tamales home and were excellent, nice and moist masa. Will go back real soon!

TJam was really swaying to the Latin rhythm last night: three excellent musicians heating up the packed house on a cold night. Several videos of the dancing here:

TJam hosted one of the best Follow Me on Friday events we've had in the eight and a half years I've been doing them. Great turnout on a bitterly cold night, great food and great music. Thank you Tony and Lido!

  • That place looks interesting and fun! But Im seeing the hours closing at 4.?? So were the evening hours only for the Grand Opening?

  • I just answered my own question..should have clicked on the link above first.

  • Live From Rogers Park

It was one of Rogers Park's most grand openings in memory. But for the weather on Friday night the dancing might have spilled out onto the street. The Salsa dancers sure would have warmed things up.

Tony, the co-owner, is contemplating extending his hours into the evening. Stay tuned.

TJam, the cuisine and the owners are the definition of awesome!!! I'm patently addicted.
