My husband was at Jonquil Park today around 3pm with our 10 month old son. A black male in his mid 40's entered the gated area and in front of my husband and son peed. He was wearing black pants, a black jacket, a bright orange hat and carrying two backpacks one of them camouflage. My husband just scooped up our son and got him out of there. The guy was gone then and he did not call the police. I told him he should have. Makes me sick. My son loves to crawl around the park :(

  • So you did not call 911 because......

  • O V

SICK!!! We live across the school park (where lots of children play during the day), and what I see there at night makes me ill. Unfortunately, even if you called the cops, they wouldn't have come. There is nothing you can do. NOTHING.

What a shame. I understand the local rats have been refraining from relieving themselves in that park, knowing that children crawl around on the ground. If the rats catch wind that a human urinated in there -- and believe me, it's a matter of when, not if -- you can kiss the previously-pristine ground good-bye.

  • Sorry, but I have to keep repeating: itz not only whether or not the police come. Obviously there may be other problems that take precedence--murder, rape, battery. But you must understand that reports add up. Police frequently drive around Oz Park based on calls that the advisory council makes. If they get a description of the perp, they will look for him when time and priorities allow.

I would've bet anything it was Mark Grace pulling his typical drunk public urination bit. However, black male kind of thwarted that thought. Joakim Noah likes to drink. If the suspect was 6'11" then we've got our man.

so your husband is hoping someone will call the police for him? Or 2 reports of same guy no big deal, or 3 is the lucky number? I'm confused.

  • Comments like those above will stop people from posting.

Very disappointed in people for the comments left. Seriously do you all think that dialing 911 for something like this matters. No it doesn't. Why because this can be reported at any time. I'm sorry I even mentioned that part. My husbands main concern at the time was to get our son out of the park. Especially since they were the only ones there. So when the guy was gone would it have been responsible of him to dial 911 possibly tying up a line for something more serious.

We live in Lincoln Park now but it's been a short time and we came from a neighborhood where I had to call 911 very regularly. Did the police ever come once? NO. And my calls were for things much more serious than a guy peeing in the park.

To jdaviped - your sarcasm about the rats isn't appreciated.

I personally enjoyed the levity, jdaviped. I once saw a dude pissing on the corner of wabash and randolph. and not like against a building or anything, but full on facing the intersection.

  • I think the comment it intended to point out that the grass might not be the healthiest place for a small child to crawl. Or at least wash his hands after he is done before he puts them in his mouth.

  • O V

... regardless of whether the grass is healthy or not to crawl on, what that sick person did is a criminal act. (Indecent exposure and public urination.) I can't believe the comments I'm reading here.

  • OV, what cant you believe?

  • O V

I can't believe that so many people have jumped on this post in either sarcastic or offending manner while there is nothing funny about his post. This is how the park's website describes the area:

Jonquil Park is the gathering place for community residents. With a large open grass area families gather and baseball is played. Kids enjoy the soft-surface/ADA accessible playground that features play areas with swings, slides, activity panels and climbing elements that keep children busy.

Now, you tell me if what happened is normal and shouldn't be brought to attention. I personally believe it's an outrage.

I've seen Randy Wells crawling through the North Side before and I was concerned for him.

Holy smokes, that guy obviously hadn't read the sign before he tinkled.

Thank you OV for your comments. I really am in disbelief of the not constructive posts being left and the lack of seeing the real issue here... Do I really need to spell it out. I guess I do... A man EXPOSED himself in a park for children. that means he took his penis out of his pants in front of a child. My child.
The mention I made of my son crawling around and my husband not calling the police right away was not what this post was about. I do know that Lincoln Park is infested with rats. You would have to be blind not to see.

Tim - no the comment was not meant to "point out that the grass might not be the healthiest place for a small child to crawl". It was meant to laugh at my mention of thinking that pee in the park is the dirtiest thing. I also don't need comments telling me that I need to wash my son after crawling around. He gets a bath after the park, if you really need to know.

Harvey - your post belongs someplace else. I guess you do not have children. You are implying no big deal because of what you saw. Well it is a big deal when a man purposely goes into a gated children's park to expose himself and pee.

Very disappointed in the lack of thoughtfulness. I guess it's a sign of our society today. Sad.

  • Mui Ne, I think you leave a lot out of your story. If the guy was intending you to see he has some issues over and above relieving himself in a park. Not a big section of the park, so any place could be in front.

And now you know why people move to the burbs once they have kids, to shelter them from 'diversity'.

  • I never understood people who tune in to forums all day to comment on someone else's issue that a) does not affect them and b) adds nothing to the conversation.

If you're going to be sarcastic, stay classy and know when to exit the conversation. Sheesh.

Take a video of the guy using your phone or tablet. Email the vid to your local police station and demand action. If enough people did that sort of thing it just might help.

  • I can appreciate your suggestion, Bill Gorden.

I would, however, propose that this is a suggestion a little less frightening to a man than a woman.
