Want to start a thread of venting about the phone book hell out there.

  • This is 2014 who uses phone books anyways?

  • Just to say something positive...they are a whole new thing for dogs to pee on and spend lots of time sniffing to see who else has been there. I bet they absorb a LOT of pee, too, as long as they get inside the bag of course.

  • Jdo concerned mom

How about I live in a single family home & received three! Seriously?!?

I've called multiple times, signed up on websites to not get them. We haven't had a landline for seven years, and we still get multiple phone books. They go right in the blue bin

  • Right in the blue bin with the Red Plums and green wrapped paper...

The green plastic bags have coupons and the Target sale flyer; I do like getting those

  • KCK, I put myself, and all my neighbors, on a list to not get red plums and it worked!

  • I tried to do just my apartment. I'll do my neighbors to the right and left too. Thanks KDK

  • KCK, when I did that I ended up getting my neighbors so I just went up and down the street...hope no one misses them...

  • YES. this drives me insane! Red plum, phone books. It's a crime. It's just dumping garbage on my front step I didn't ask for and don't want.

And the jabronies they have delivering vehicles that aren't even road-worthy

  • I am using the three blue bags we got for dirty diapers!

Recycling bin, problem solved, takes 30 seconds and you can move on with your life.

Aside from the fact that it is utterly wasteful there are many more reasons why these circulars are a bane to many of us who live here.
It would be simple if all you have to deal with were just yours but not all neighbors are responsible and you are often left picking up bags of litter (loose flyers) that blow all over your block after these are distributed. The phone books off end up soggy messes on the streets.
There is also a security angle: For those who take the time to stop their mail and suspend paper deliver to their homes while they are out of town, the Plum package folks often ignore this and pile their publications at your doorsteps thereby negating your intent to not call attention that you are out of town.
I believe there was a lawsuit about this.

For us in EHP, it took many calls over a year to the Tribune Company Customer Service before our deliveries stopped. I am not sure who to call for the phone books.
