Worked on various independent projects in music, event planning and publishing before joining the Navy and completing the West-Pac Tour on the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70). Upon returning to Chicago, I had a variety of jobs.
Eventually settled in the Rogers Park neighborhood where I quickly got involved in the renovation of the Adelphi Theater (1917 vaudeville/movie theater).
Notably during this time my positions with Chicago Special Events Management, Kate Smith Promotions and Quest Network Services were where I adopted a more sustainable approach in supporting clientele, projects and programs. In 2009, I formed my own for-profit company, Bill Morton Promotions.
During the beginning of the company, I still had to work hourly at Cook County Department of Elections (David Orr) and by commission-based pay in advertising at Gernhardt Publications (Gay Chicago Magazine), but eventually gained professional recording artist clients who were willing to pay me what my time and expertise is worth.
In 2009 I noticed that many good businesses were closing in my neighborhood of Rogers Park. I brought business and community leaders together to form the Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce. I was elected President for two terms. Since elected, the Chamber has located to it's current brick-and-mortar office on Sheridan Road and has grown to over 100 members, operating businesses and leading organizations in our community.
