A message from Alderman Scott Waguespack:

I want to thank you for your support in the municipal elections in February as I was able to work with you to gain 79% of the vote in the 32nd Ward vote. The elected school board issue also tallied about 83% of the vote.

Another big date in Chicago's political history was made when the first ever mayoral runoff was set for April 7th. I am urging you to get out and vote early or on April 7th. I am supporting Chuy Garcia for Mayor but whoever you vote for, exercise your right to vote.

Voting for the April 7th runoff election is underway at early voting locations throughout the City. This is the first time Chicago has had a Mayoral runoff election since the runoff system was put into place. The Board of Elections ballots will list the two candidates for the office of Mayor: Mayor Emanuel and Chuy Garcia . In the 32nd Ward there will be one ballot cast for the mayoral race and no other questions will be on the ballot.

For questions about registration, absentee ballots, or any other election related issues visit the Q&A page at the Board of Elections for answers. To look up your polling place, check your voter information on the Chicago Board of Elections.

EARLY Voting is offered from Monday March 23rd through Saturday April 4th. Any voter registered in the City of Chicago may use any Early Voting site in the city, regardless of where the voter lives. Voters do need to present government photo ID during early voting.

HOURS of Polling Locations
All sites will be open every day from March 23 through April 4:

  • Prescott Elementary School reviewed by a parent

This is an honest review for other parents doing the same as me (research on other schools). I have 2 children at Prescott for the last 3 years (both all A's). Strong points Art teacher is AMAZING! Small, close knit. This year has been difficult; one child in a classroom where there was intermittent heat for the majority of the winter. Also has a teacher that as my child says gets frustrated and screams at the class. In 2nd grade she asked the teacher to go to the bathroom 3 different times over the course of an hour - and was told "NO" - then had an accident in the classroom. In our other classroom - we personally know 4 children that have left the school because of the Administration (specifically Mr. Roche) and 2 more that are looking to leave. Support for diversity and acceptance is a low score for Prescott. Huge issues with unqualified support staff hired to fill multiple positions (none very well) and the safety of children being put knowingly at risk. Also, if a child has an IEP (at ANY level) they are not allowed to participate in the aftercare program. Every child has the right to learn, participate AND be safe at school it just doesn t happen at Prescott.

Undecided voters...what would get you to vote for either Mayoral candidate?

On the fence? Any one thing that would sway your opinion?

I don't know that I'm voting for Chui or Rahm. For me, I'd reconsider Rahm if he immediately implemented a Mayoral 2-term limit; and if he convinced the aldermen to implement a 3-term-limit on Aldermen (grandfathering existing Aldermen, oh, of course), I think he'd run away with the race. So much of the trouble we're in now could've been avoided if we didn't have a life-time Mayor sitting on fixing the major issues whilst hoping for good luck to occasionally sweep them away.

  • Nora H 11year Lakeview resident, member ELVN.

For some reason I can't seem to paste the link to a You Tube interview of David Orr talking about Rahm and the city finances. Look for it and see how the books are cooked and more on TIF money. You certainly don't get the whole story from the Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune.

  • Rahm has done something positive and helpful. He closed a bunch of expensive and ineffective schools and caught heck for it. The city has a huge dark financial cloud hanging over it. It doesn't matter who is mayor. Noone wants the real solution.

Parking Lot Dent Repair Scam Alert

Earlier this afternoon, a couple guys appeared to be scamming an older Asian gentleman with a Lexus in the Walgreen's parking lot at Fullerton / Greenview.

Apparently, this type of scam is very common. Two individuals approach another individual and offer to repair a car dent for less than what it would cost in a bodyshop. Often times, the individual scammed goes to an ATM to withdraw cash to pay for the body work and the work done is shoddy and, often times, more money is requested to pay for the job.

I called 911 to report the possible incident; however, the Asian man and the scammers seemed to have parted ways before the police arrived.

The scammers appeared to be in a silver Chevy with a license plate that looked like R1460149 (from a distance). One scammer appeared to be of Latino descent with a goatee (I cannot remember that with 100% certainty). The other gentleman was a taller, skinnier fellow who was wearing a snow hat.

  • Saw these guys in the Costco parking lot (Clybourn & Damen) on Wednesday and reported it. This time it was a green minivan.
