Aldermanic Candidates

By reading EveryBlock and Galewood.net, I learned there are 5-6 candidates for Alderman in the 36th Ward. Villegas, Vittorio, Vazquez, Zaragoza, Aquino and Tenuta.

It's only 3 months until the election.

Villegas, Vittorio and Vazquez are the only three of the group who have made any effort to reveal themselves or any platform to the community. Villegas is the only candidate that I have noticed putting himself out there and showing sincere interest.....with the other two V-guys close behind in...

Villegas, Vittorio and Vazquez are the only three of the group who have made any effort to reveal themselves or any platform to the community. Villegas is the only candidate that I have noticed putting himself out there and showing sincere interest.....with the other two V-guys close behind in enthusiasm. Although a lifelong Chicagoan and primarily a Democrat, there is no way I can support the 26 year old candidate with little life experience just because many of his relatives are machine politicians. Call me cynical but ......

I mistakenly responded to a candidate in the 29th who told me to write to him because his platform would be too long to post on EveryBlock. Another said to look him up on Facebook. (I don't have a FB account because I don't want one; hello?)

Want to win an election guys? Tell us who you are personally, what you've accomplished, how you can make a positive difference and what you can do for your constituents. What makes you the man for the job?

I would like to thank all my family and friends who have given up their precious time to support me in my cause these last couple of months. I especially would like to thanks all the thousands of people my volunteers and I have spoken to along this journey and had signed my petitions.
I am sad to say that I have decided not to contest the objections that were filed against me. It is not that there was any merit to them, I was quite sure I would have defeated all of them, but one in particular where a receipt was accepted at filing but has since been conveniently misplaced would have required tremendous time and money .
Whether it was at a function, signing my petition, parishioners at the church’s or the many business owners I have seen, I was blessed to encounter some of the best this ward has to offer as I’m sure the other potential candidates have as well. And whether you’ve signed my petition or believed in my vision for the 36th ward I hope you follow through, research the candidates and vote for the person who has our best interest at heart. This is your opportunity to voice your opinion on the future of the ward.

  • Backing one of our candidates, how much more does he need to control? .

Lonely Neighbor

Elderly woman in neighborhood (somewhat abrasive and constantly complaining) has stated this year she is not putting up her lights around windows as usual because she is lonely and has nobody to celebrate with. She lives with and is caretaker for her blind and frail older sister. Would welcome any suggestions to bring them an ounce of Christmas cheer.
Only thing I can think of is to bring them a tray of cookies....am physically unable to decorate for her and they are both shut-ins. Thanks in advance.

Our second day without water

So the crew on Friday did something and our water wasn't restored. I called the water department immediately and they had people calling me asking if it was a contractor crew or city crew?! Don't they know they have been inconveniencing this neighborhood a month replacing pipes?!
Worse thing after many phone calls and a whole day of "someone is coming" they asked if we shut off our own water!!?

I am surprised the way this city works.

Understand perfectly

Yes, there are certain snippy people that need to be
relieved of their duties for awhile….they are rude
and much could be said, but the truth of who they are
would start "a fire". It is enough that I can determine
and avoid by calling in again and speaking to someone
else. I do that with all jaded first responders in any field.

Residential neighborhood. Oh! Live entertainment. Oh! Mariachis. Oh trumpets, too? Oh great - MC or DJ with microphone - my my - noise level increasing - sounds like they're in my kitchen! Hour later I call police - I mean, my storm windows are down, can't hear my television. Another hour I call again. Two hours later I call again. Go in shower and can still hear both the music and the guy jabbering on the mike. No police response? I guess I have no right to peace and quiet. It's 11:05pm and I'm ready to tear my hair out! What the hell?

  • Ok. We may be writing a complaint letter to the supervisor of OMEC. If we do, I'll get in touch and ask if I can mention your incident. Right now, the 25th district commander is following up and trying to find out why they weren't informed of the Urban Myth calls last week. Thanks, HoneyBadger!

  • The new system is to call 911 for everything. Calls are not taken by the local police station and they have no way to send out a car. When I call in a non-emergency, I tell the dispatcher right away it is not an emergency, but a police matter that needs immediate attention. I think the situations are triaged and if there are lots of emergencies, the non-emergencies lose out.
