How does this happen in America!!!

This story was shared by a coworker this morning. A mother that is doomed to die due to her illegal status. Her children will have no home or a place once she is gone. Her children are half Mexican and half Puerto Rican and father absent due to her disease... Unfuckenbelievable!!! Please help Mari with any donations or please attend Sept 21 at 12pm for a gathering on her behalf. Mari is currently being evicted because she is in her last stages of cancer and cannot work. All I can think about is what happens to the kids!!! Jesus!

  • This is truly sad, does she have other family members they might be able to stay with??

  • MakeChicagoSafe Please keep our Chicago Safe

I have no idea but I have started acquiring more information about this unfortunate woman. There really needs to be better laws put in place to protect and secure children. I know I can't save the world but if I can make a difference in any child's life I want to. And as far as the father living somewhere in Humboldt park with his new girlfriend, he should be thrown in prison for being a dead beat!!!

  • I'm sorry, but I really doubt she is doomed to die because she is undocumented like you said. But her and the children getting evicted, not having the money for rent is due to her undocumented status since if she was documented could get TANF which would help some, but...

Re. there should be better laws to protect and secure children. There are, but the father doesn't seem to want to take responsibility and no law in heaven or earth can make him take responsibility. Actually, since he is Puerto Rican, she could have gone to one of those free legal clinics to have his wages garnished for child support. Yes, I know, too late now, but one shouldn't wait til one's roof is falling down to get a scum bag to take responsibility. It's not that I don't have empathy, have a ton of it, but.... . Maybe I'll go to that fundraiser. .

Helicopter

Wonder why there's a helicopter circling Belmont Cragin. It's been with a spotlight for at least 30 minutes now going in circles.

  • Melissa1013 Own your streets, build your community.

The helicopters were helping navigate which streets to block off last night during the "parades". There were probably a couple hundred people celebrating Mexican Independence Day which was yesterday but also clearly celebrated on Monday too. The helicopters were helping navigate which streets to block off last night during the "parades". There were probably a couple hundred people celebrating Mexican Independence Day which was yesterday but also clearly celebrated on Monday too. A car was torched on Fullerton and Lamon, a 16 year old "documented gang member" was shot 8 times on Kilbourn and Fullerton, another shooting at Fullerton and Austin and one more I heard of at North and Pulaski before I couldn't listen anymore and attempted to sleep. At one point we literally had every CPD car in the district on or near that intersection. I was embarrassed for a neighborhood I speak so highly of.

  • There was a shooting last night at the Shell station on Austin and Fullerton. That's around the time I started hearing the helicopters. Of what I know, two were shot in the foot (of all places).

Zumba classes

Anyone know of any Zumba classes I'm able to join? I'm in Cragin and nothing ever going on around here 😞
Need to lose some weight 😣

  • I have never been to the Zumba on Cicero and Wrightwood. There is a huge Zumba sign on the 2nd floor of the building right at the light. I have also seen another Zumba place on Diversey and Kilbourn- it's a small place....

  • MakeChicagoSafe Please keep our Chicago Safe

Thanks for all the information I'll look into them cause God knows I need too 😳

Come spend an hour with me at the local library to learn about how you can take control of your future with a successful team who will teach you how you can build your own business on the side as you continue with your day job (for now)- but eventually be able to quit and be the entrepreneur that you've always wanted to be but didn't have the funds to do it.
You can start part-time and have fun with us as you learn all skills you need.
In the meantime, think about some of your present challenges you'd like to change...write them down (too much stress, too many hours, not enough pay, not enough energy and good health for your retirement years!) You may come up with alot of them. We'll prioritize them and work on 'em together.

Bungalow chimney advice/recommendation

Hello Belmont-Cragin neighbors!

My husband and I bought our bungalow back in January and at the time we noticed the chimney, which is painted, looked as if it was peeling or flaking. Our home inspector said it was probably due to the house needing a new roof and chimney flashings. We had the roof and flashings replaced in April and the roofer said he thinks the chimney looks the way it does because of moisture pushing through the bricks from the inside as the boiler and got water heater vent through it.

2 questions:
Has anyone had this happen in their home, especially if you love in a bungalow?

Can anyone recommend a chimney expert/repair guy?

Thanks!

  • hkl Belmont-Cragin homeowner

    Will do Lujan.

  • Thank you, hkl. Be careful with whatever company you go with. Even being on Angie's List doesn't mean as much as people think.
