Found Dog

This dog was found wandering on Cullerton near Oakley. She was wearing a harness and is friendly. She knew some commands so is certainly someone's pet. We could not keep her, so she was turned in to Chicago Animal Care & Control at 2700 S. Western. She will be held on stray hold for 3 days for her owners to claim her. After 3 days she is available for rescues to pull her. After 5 days she becomes eligible for euthanasia.

Please share so that her owners can claim her.

FYI, I have posted on CraigsList, Lost Dogs Illinois and here. I have also put up flyers.

As stated in my original post, she is friendly. She is a large pit bull/boxer mix.

As for the comments about CACC, it is an open-access shelter, meaning that is legally required to take in every animal that is brought through its doors. That is about 20-25 thousand animals per year. Unfortunately, there are not enough homes for all of those pets, so euthanasia does occur. The current live rate for dogs is about 60%. The live rate for cats was about 90% earlier this year.

If you would like to make a difference in the lives of these pets, here are some steps that you can take:
    - spay/neuter your own pets
    - adopt, don't shop for pets Plenty of great pets can be found for adoption at CACC or one of their partner rescues.
    - volunteer with CACC or one of the rescues that pulls from the CACC.
    - donate to one of the many animal rescues in town.
    - share information about lost pets and adoptables with your social media circle.

Here is a good place to start for information:

Cats are disproportionately killed at shelters. Friendly cats can appear to be feral, due to the environment. Uninterested or inexperienced staff members do not necessarily scan cats, pit bulls, rotties, etc. for microchips (first hand experience), regardless of the ordinance that says they will/must. Taking any animal there during the recent outbreak of canine flu (which the CDC now reports can be transmitted to cats) is a death sentence itself. DO NOT take puppies or kittens to any of these open access shelters at this time. Find another way, foster if you can. If you contact a rescue and volunteer to foster the animal you find, most times they will provide medical and other supplies as long as you can keep the animal in your home until they can find another foster home or it's adopted from your home. AWL, ACS or CACC are not places for seniors or babies of any species on a good day, with this outbreak it's worse.

Do you have a kitchen Fire Extinguisher?

I purchased one for $20 at Home Depot.
Small but mighty.
Also available on Amazon.
Could be a $20 life/home saver one day.

Fire Extinguishers need to be as mandatory
as smoke detectors.

What is planned for the land beside the north end of interstate 55 and Damen exit?

I saw trucks leveling the land and now I see markers for construction. The land is actuall across from where Transformers was filmed.

Old photos wanted

My mom, along with her brothers and sisters, was born at 2050 W. Roosevelt
in the early 1920's. They were baptized at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church
which was located at 12th & Cypress St. (now Roosevelt Rd. and Hoyne Ave.)
Does anyone have photos of this section of Roosevelt Rd. showing
the church and surrounding neighborhood. Would be great to have a photo
of the building where she and her siblings were born. Many Thanks in advance!

check with the Chicago History Museum. I found several pix of my ancestors there.

33 years old man missing

A 33 years old man is missing since March 12th, 2015 in the North Side of Chicago. He was last seen in Mount Sinai Hospital.
He has schizophrenia so he was confused in those days. I would appreciate any kind of help or information about him. His name is Jonathan Bujnowski. His height 6 1, dark blonde hair, green eyes, slim complexion.
His picture is in the profile photo.

Anyone know a reasonable Construction Debris Haul Away Person/Service in the area?

Having a new deck built. Need to get rid of the old materials. I am about to order a dumpster but thought I would see if anyone knows of a person/team that specializes in this area.

Thanks!

  • Logosc75 then I would venture to suggest you would be incorrect as it seems it is mostly home/property owners who insist on the status quo and renters who want things to change. At least based on my own experiences over the last 9 years.

This red light camera debate is a great topic. Where is the money currently going?

Thank you for a very interesting discussion about the city.

Our finances are the real issue for me. When our rating was downgraded it was such an embarrassment for the city.

The cameras are a genuine problem. They aren't the only issue for me that is important.

A lot of them deal with kids-and I don't even have any. The pools need a lot of work. Mayor Emanuel just gave away 20 acres of park land to be replaced somewhere else TBD... If the mayor claims that the 606 is new parkland I'm gonna laugh myself to a Boat on the lake that I can have permanently in the water. Many schools don't have libraries, a librarian on site air-conditioning or windows that are not broken.

There are very few afterschool programs that are funded and summer programs. Kids are left with a lot of time to screw around and get in trouble. The Boys and Girls Club over by me is overcrowded and the teenagers in the next building over say it's only for little kids because they have no space to play ball or anything. The Chicago public libraries close early and or even closed completely on many days. I asked to volunteer because they are short on staff and I was told that those are union jobs and cannot be replaced by volunteers. There's really nowhere free and safe for kids to go besides fast food restaurants.

I am for a debate about what they will do with the tax money that they get from legalizing marijuana for recreational use in the city. Paying down debt?

I don't think so. Knowing these guys it will probably way over taxed and people will go to another cheaper state to purchase.

    That is utterly ridiculous!!!
A previous comment from me should have read:
"Yellow light times should (not:will definitely) vary based on the speed of the thoroughfare and the length to be traveled thru each intersection."

Any other basis for a red light should have the potential to not stand up in court...the RLC camera needs to go away entirely or we need to get the Civil Engineers off their back ends to properly calibrate each intersection based on their unique qualities.

  • Everything has tolerances, even your smart phone. It's the way engineer's specify. You wouldn't want to pay for perfection.

The cams to my understanding are set on the posted speed limit not on the actual running speed.
