The City of Chicago is pleased to inform you that the application period for the entry-level Firefighter/EMT exam started July 16, 2014 and will run through September 16. This is the period of time when applicants can sign up for the exam, which will be administered on December 13 and 14, 2014. In 2006, the age to sit for the exam was 19 and the age to enter the academy was 20. We have lowered the age to sit for the exam and enter the academy to 18. It is our hope that younger individuals who get on the eligibility list will be motivated to attend college and stay out of trouble and will find a sense of opportunity about their futures.

Attached is the job announcement, as well as the FAQ’s, which provides all of the key information about the application process and the exam. In case you’d like to cut-and-paste the link to the application website, here it is: www.cityofchicago.org/FireApplication. The website also contains links to additional information.

During the posting period, applicants can call (312) 744-4976 or email fire-application@cityofchicago.org with any questions or concerns, and they can also seek assistance in Room 100 in City Hall.

We have also modified the way candidates can apply for Veterans Preference. Applicants may apply for Veterans Preference at any time, even after the posting has closed. There is no longer a cutoff date for the submission of documents showing eligibility for Veterans Preference. However, the later the preference is applied for, the later it will be applied. Detailed instructions on how to apply for the Veterans Preference are included in the attached FAQs.

Obscured Stop Sign

This is the corner of Cermak & Oakley, 1 picture facing west, 1 east on Cermak. Scaffolding has been erected around the corner building and the stop sign is obscured. This is an accident waiting to happen, loads of cars do not stop. This intersection is bad to begin with, even more so when there is no traffic, cars breeze right past it and if a bus or truck is blocking either sign you do not cross this street without waving at the driver to make sure they see you and they intend on stopping. There is a red light camera at Cermak and Western and a speed camera for the school in the middle of the block before this stop sign. Why can't we get a flashing stop sign here?

KICS Cup is an Annual International Youth Soccer Cup

7/21-7/26 at Dunbar Park. We will need Field Marshals (the person who checks team rosters/player passes before the game), concession help and hospitality help.

KICS Cup is an annual international youth soccer cup to the heart of the city focused on competition, camaraderie and cultural exchange. Our mission is to offer soccer opportunities for youth locally, nationally and internationally through programs like the Chicago KICS Cup and the Chicago KICS Community League while also improving infrastructure here in the city. This years' tournament should be exciting with 80-100 teams from Italy, Ghana, Ethiopia, China, Mexico, Guatemala, Canada, Colombia, Puerto Rico and the US.
