The work shown in the photo has been the most elaborate of his/her works that I've seen this year; which is not saying much and resembles sophomoric skill. This joke might live around Oakley, the epicenter of tagging. Though, his/her tagging is an eyesore, I do not know how one makes the leap to the Bagel and Beans crime and find the accusation irresponsible.

Eyebrow Threading

Are there any good eyebrow threading places around Lincoln Square/Ravenswood? I used to go to a great lady down in Lakeview, but I just can't get there as easily anymore and my eyebrows look a little scary!! Alternatively, someone who gives a quality wax would also work - basically I need these caterpillars off my face. :) Thanks.

  • Yep. They shape just as well if not better than waxing. And for me, having sensitive skin, I don't look red for more than an hour. With waxing, my skin would be red for almost a week!

Tire thief?

Saw a newer Honda on bricks this morning. Is their a possible tire and rim thief in the area near Montrose and Winchester?

  • ChiGuy814 One Goal

Yanqing- I saw a couple accessing the glove box, carefully mind you while on cell phones. So I assume authorities are involved.

  • This happened to another Honda Fit right in front of my building (Paulina & Ainsle), a couple of years ago. The police told the owner that the Fit has the same wheel size as some typical gangbanger car (I think it was old Honda Civics), so theft of the wheels is somewhat common.

Found: chubby orange housecat

This cat was hanging out on the sidewalk in front of 4447 N Wolcott. It was very friendly, well fed and didn't seem like an outside cat. I couldn't take it in so he's still outside. It went into the gated alley next to the building so I'm hoping it knows how to stay safe. It was cold but seemed ok for now.

Hungry? Head to Pockets today and make some pets happy, too!

Hi! Just a reminder that today's the day to raise some dough for the Friendship Pet Food Pantry.

Simply mention the pantry when you place an order at Pockets on Lincoln Avenue today between 4 and 9 p.m., and 50 percent of your order will go toward feeding pets in need.

Here are the details: http://chicago.everyblock.com/neighbor-events/oct22-raise-some-dough-friendship-pet-food-pantry-6458961/

Thanks so much!

Dog Bite

Hi neighbors, my husband was out on his morning run this morning and a large dog bite him. He noticed a woman with a small dog and a large dog on the sidewalk so he gave distance and ran on the parkway to avoid the woman and the dogs. The larger dog pulled away from his owner and bite through two layers of clothing and broke skin. He exchanged numbers and is on his way to the ER.

Any suggestions on the next steps?

Not interested in why, but simply one word: who you voting for?

  • @Catbus

My post is not implying they only get their information from campaign commercials but the same exaggerated belief that Republicans are against minorities, women, only for big business etc etc is really just old at this point. Its all the campaign commercials talk about.

Best thing to point out is the Democratic candidates campaigning the Republicans are being bought by big donors. Washington Post fact checked this and the Democrats are actually taking in much larger donations from select few wealthier people.

    Practice what you preach.

Coyote sighting

Last night I saw a Coyote by Winnemac and Western. I was in the car, however, a young man was walking his dog which barked and caused the coyote to run up the alley.
Just need to be aware. I called 911 and they connected me to 311. I was told they would report it to Animal Control.

There's a big urban coyote research program in Chicago and Cook Co. that has been ongoing. Coyotes are captured and tagged and released in the exact location where they were trapped, so, no, there is no effort to remove them from the city. They are here to stay. Unless one becomes a nuisance animal, animal control is not going to come out to look for it or trap it. Just existing & being sighted does not make one a nuisance animal. Usually when one becomes a nuisance it is because someone is feeding it--either purposely or by leaving garbage accessible. Everything you might want to know about the coyote population in Chicago can be found at this site:

Coyotes rolling around the Square

Riding my bike on Winnemac between Lincoln and Western around 6:30 tonite, saw a coyote trotting east on the street right in front of me. After keeping pace for a few moments, Wiley E. ducked between a couple cars on south side of the street. Hope everyone is keeping a close eye on their cats and small dogs.

Now that the snow is melting, it's becoming more obvious that *some* dog owners really didn't want to take the time to clean up after their dogs. I understand that it has been a cold and snowy winter, but it shouldn't change your level of responsibility as respectable owners. It is bad enough that at the end of the sidewalk leading out of building complexes is the landing strip for all of the dog urine in the world, but I could look past that if the steaming piles were removed.

The area in particular that I'm referring to is on Wolcott, north of Montrose, south of Sunnyside on the east side of the road. There are probably a dozen big dog turds laying on the snow and even one on the sidewalk. Some new, some old and crusty. It's disgusting. If I had small children, I'd be pissed as these are not "road verges"(?) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_verge) that I'd want my kids walking on or playing on.

It is at the point where the next nice day I'm going to go out there and clean it up myself. I'm just sick of seeing it.

  • How about a Park Spark to start the education process, Elliott S? http://parksparkproject.com/home.html

  • Phil L, the city certainly is still baiting, in fact they came through a week or so ago and baited along some of the alleyways in St. Ben's. Here's a number you can call if you can point them toward specific evidence of rat infestation (for example, small holes in the ground that lead to their burrows and tunnelways). They will bait inside the hole and seal it off, so pets in the area should be safe. Just give them the location of the spot. The number is 312-742-7287.

Low Flying Plane?

My house literally just shook from what I think was a low flying plane? Anyone else?

  • Thanks, Jeff, I was wondering what that was Sunday, didn't get outside fast enough to see. Definitely was not the Osprey and heli's, and was low and loud.

  • Marine Helicopter Squadron One, which transports the president, replaced its auxiliary helicopters with the MV-22B Osprey. They are used to transport staff, media and Secret Service that accompany the president (the president still travels in a conventional helicopter). The MV-22 tiltrotor is loud when traveling slowly because it has a higher disc loading than a conventional helicopter.

More irresponsible dog owners...

Today is the second day I've stepped in dog defecate, and it`s getting annoying fast. Yesterday on Damen and Berteau, today in front of my own home on Leland/Talman. I will be watching, and I'll bring it back to you if necessary. So sick of people who cage their dogs 20 hours a day and dont clean up after them the other four. Shameful. Insert appropriate profanity here. People and eb filters s-u-c-k.

Truck Break-In on 4300 Block of Campbell

Hey neighbors, I heard two loud thumps and then a car alarm go off at midnight last night. I looked out the window and saw that a truck parked on Campbell between Montrose and Pensacola was broken into. The alarm went off for several minutes. I did not see the perpetrators, but I do know it took place at midnight. This morning I saw that the passenger window was smashed. This is the first break-in that i have noticed since moving to the neighborhood this summer.

Smelly Dog

Got my furniture and rugs deodorized and cleaned...Thank God! But does anyone know why my large male dog stinks so much? My large female (different breed) doesn't reek like this. Both eat the same food, go to the same vet, etc. Vet says she doesn't know why he smells so bad...(he's not sick.) But a friend told me that her large male dogs always seem to smell worse than the females. Also, I was just reading a funny memoir and the author was describing how bad her large male dog smells......The description of the type of odor was spot on with our smelly pooch. He gets groomed. Should I start sprinkling him with baking soda?

  • McBean animals, art, outdoors

If this smell is recent and not typical for your dog, I would recommend you get him checked out at the vet. He could have a medical condition.

  • We tried Dynovite (or something like it) nearly 4 years ago. Didn't help at all unfortunately.

Lost Quadcopter

I lost a RC quadcopter(helicopter) at Horner Park. I fear it may have gone in the river, but if anyone that walks, jogs, works, or is by that area and sees an aprox 1'x1' RC quadcopter with orange and green propellers please contact me. Will pay a reward if returned. Or call 847-370-1684

  • Dustin, so glad that we were able to get your quadcopter back to you! It looks like a lot of work went into it. Love to see you fly it sometime.

  • Dustin Dalziel lost quadcopter

Thank you again so much. Yes the time spent on it made it so much more valuable to me. I would love to show you and your family how it flies, maybe we can meet at Horner Park this coming weekend? FYI, what you found is called the "Warpquad" if you were so inclined to watch a YouTube video of someone flying one.

seeking garage space nov-may!

seeking reasonably priced garage space to shelter one car…from november to may. I use the car about once or twice a week on the weekends for errands. Let me know what you got or if you have any ideas. Thanks!

  • Misty Current Edgewater enthusiast & past Linc2 resident

When I lived in Lincoln Square between 2007 and 2013 I paid $75/month for garage parking, then $150/month in Edgewater for a shared 2 car garage. In Lincoln Square I always lived in the building (multiple apts) but Edgewater was a half block south of where I lived. Craigslist and simply driving around where you want to park to look for signs on garages has been effective for me. There's also a few websites, spot hero and parkopedia, you can try. Good luck!

  • Misty Current Edgewater enthusiast & past Linc2 resident

Forgot to mention you will likely have better luck signing on for a whole year than specifying you only want the space 7 months out of the year.

My husband has seen her sprinkling what we hope is only red pepper. None of this has stopped the dogs from using the bathroom on this stretch of grass. All of us dog owners are getting fed up with her harassment and we are worried she is going to start putting poison on the grass. We don't know if we should call the police or what to do. Has anyone heard how the pastry chef from Beans n Bagels is doing now? I heard there would be a kickstarter campaign to help him while he's out of work because he was injured. But I never heard any more about that. Has anyone heard anything about how he is or about raising money to help him?

Graffit and the cure?!?

I seem to have ended the graffiti that has plagued my building at Wilson and Wolcott .
( over 400 times this has happened!) I went to Sherwin Williams Paint Co. and ordered their anti-graffiti covering. If you are having a similar problem this might be the solution. It is quite pricey, About $105.00 per gallon. Your surface needs to be cleaned by the "Graffiti Buster" first before you apply the covering. My piece of mind was worth the cost. I will up-date you if I see this hasn't worked, but for now we are golden! YEAH!

  • The Crusty Pirate Old crotchety pirate captain (retired)

Another possible solution could be 'green walls'

http://goo.gl/ltX9DG <-- green walls google image search

The paint is intriguing though... i may use it in conjunction with 'green walls'.

  • The Crusty Pirate Old crotchety pirate captain (retired)

I'm inclined to think that any surface that doesn't present itself as a clean flat canvas would deter an aspiring 'artist'.

It would be an interesting hypothesis to test - using flat surfaces (control), corrugated surfaces, vegetated surface (green walls), open slatted surfaces, surface filled with holes, surfaces that are already randomly colored, highly textured surfaces, etc.... anything to 'break the canvas' and make it less palatable.

    - someone go try that ; )
