Pens and pencil donation

I am an office supply hoarder. It doesn't help that my office supplier give us free samples of items. I have a shoebox of pens and pencils that I need to get rid of - does anyone know where I can donate these?

  • jasper1055 Roscoe Villiage

My girlfriend is a 3rd grade teacher and is always looking for donations for their art projects.... Let me know and I can pick them up... I'm in Roscoe Village. Addison and Damen.

  • L

I'm assuming Burley will take them. Arts of Life a nonprofit that works with adults with developmental disabilities would be another choice.

Cinnamon Ice Cream

I fully admit this is a ridiculous question. Does anyone know of a place that sells cinnamon ice cream (store, shop, any place)? I've tried Mariano's and Jewel. I used to live in MN and during the holidays Kemp's would have it at the local grocers. I've heard that Blue Bunny also has it, but I haven't seen it at Jewel. (This is my mom's favorite and she is old and not well, so I'd like to find it before Thanksgiving.)

  • I've gotten it at Windy City Sweets before (around 3300 N. Broadway).

  • Menchie's Frozen Yogurt at River Point Shopping Center (Clybourn) has Cinnabon flavor and I am almost positive you can take it home by the pint. It's killer.

Attempted break in - laundry room

Someone smashed the glass of our building's basement around 1300 W Barry. We called 911 and when the police arrived, they stated that someone may have tried to get to the laundry machine to steal the money. People watch out.

  • Admittedly, now that I got the courage to look at which window got broken, I wonder if it was just an act of vandalism. The front garden apartment has several packages outside of their door that haven't been taken, and the cars in the back weren't broken into. We just have a small windowpane. I'm not sure what the person(s) who broke our glass were trying to do, but it definitely sounded scary as there were several thumps (maybe trying to break through the side door?) before breaking the window.

  • krw

That's terrifying. My biggest fear would be that this criminal just got in the building and has access to all the residential floors! Thanks for posting I'm going to alert my relatives' and friends' building manager!

Dirt disposal

Any idea how to get rid of old dirt from container gardens? Looks like the yard waste disposal doesn't include soil. I have 20-30 gallons of potting soil used with vegetables for one season. Thoughts on where I can put this?

  • Can you spread it over your lawn or parkway?

  • Kathleen 12 year Wrigleyville resident

I agree with above! I only rotate my soil every three years. I don't even cover my containers in the winter and always have beautiful flowers in the spring.

Thanks for your prompt reply. However, it seems unoriginal (and uninspired) to assume the name of a pre-existing venture. Use of the public library is gratis. Doesn't mean everything there is up for grabs.

Panera Bread at Ashland and School Falls Through; Target Development Not Happening

According to the latest flyers from Cushman &Wakefield, Panera Bread is no longer coming to Ashland and School and they are re-releasing it to market. Vitamin Shoppe is a go, and Target is no longer pictured on the map.

  • Carter, that's a pretty limited view. The stockholders in both of those companies are all over the country, all over the world. If you have a 401(k) with mutual funds, YOU probably own some stock in both companies.

  • Carter O'Brien lager beer rioter

Pretty limited view? We push for divestment where I work, and LaSalle bank was where I had my first bank account and Cash Station card.
