Peoples Gas

Does anyone else have a story about Peoples Gas? I have been waiting to have my gas turned on for two weeks now - the schedule is booked out 10 days to two weeks. The day of my appointment I called 3 times to confirm as no one ever showed up. Each time I was ASSURED that the tech was on their way. The next day-again I called at 7 a. m. and was told that because they didn't get to me yesterday - for sure I would be at the top of the list- but they could't give me a time and I would have to skip work and wait the entire day. Each time I called they had a different answer - from "they on on the way" to "we don't see you on the schedule" and "you are scheduled for tomorrow". I spoke to an "escalation supervisor" four times and the call center 7 times . Each time I called the hold time was 20 to 50 minutes of listening to music. Still another day passed and again no show. I even saw a peoples gas truck pass my house looking for a parking spot., It seems when they could fine one they decided to just leave. I am not sure what I'm going to do to these people if they ever show up!!!!

Everyblock vs Nextdoor in Lakeview

I have my favorite but would like to hear what peeps up in Lakeview think.

If you could only use one, which would you choose? ...and why? Which do you find to be more informative, to have better features, community outreach, support etc? ...or is there another social neighborhood network you prefer to use? ie Facebook, Yahoo Groups, Foursquare

To help compare, i put together a chart:

For those who are not familiar with ND, but curious, here's an invite link:

Sigh... Another institution bites the dust. Muskie's (corner of Lincoln/George/Lakewood) is closing either this Saturday or next Saturday. They are renters and the owner wants to do something else with the property. The cleaner next door also has to close soon.

Found: Kitten

Hey, I rescued a kitten that was leaping from rooftop to rooftop to balcony last night on Kenmore, north of Lawrence last night. Currently finding a vet to check for a microchip, but is anyone missing a little one? this was more in Uptown, I know, but just thought I'd post it here, in case it wandered that far.

  • While I appreciate your sentiment Ivan, but this was most definitely NOT an outdoor cat. Though she lacked a collar and chip, she refused to urinate or defecate until she was presented with a litter box. She's also refused most food except for cat food.

  • A&K

It would be nice if people stopped the outdoor cat thing. We have two that roam near us. Attack birds, scare the rabbits and one time had one think about attacking my dog during the walk. Tail poofed, hissing the whole deal.

They leave them out in the rain, rarely see them in the winter which is a plus. If you want a cat have a cat but if it's an "outdoor" cat just feed a stray and forget about it. Why bother having a cat if it's just left outside?

Rat control? Call the city to post poison boxes.

Demo at Ashland and Melrose?

Any idea what is happening there now? Last I heard Target was not going in. Anyone heard anything new?

  • Please, no dollar stores! And no mattress stores either!

  • With our luck it will be more yoga studios, gymbories, nail salons and daycares because we don't have enough of those, LOL!

What's going on in Boystown?

I've lived in Boystown for two years now, and in the last few months I feel like the strip of Halsted between Roscoe and Clark has gotten… questionable. In the last week and a half alone:

1. Walking to DSW, 8 pm. Someone approaches me trying to sell cocaine.
2. Walking to dentist, 10 am. Large man calls me a f-ing f***** transvestite with my d*** between my legs. (I am a small blonde girl).

3. Walking home with my boyfriend, 8 pm. Man jumps in our face yelling that we're gross, both of us. (I can assure you, we're not).

These things all occurred during normal weekday hours. It's starting to make me uncomfortable even walking down that corridor, and I've never felt that way before.

Has anyone else noticed a lot of weird going ons over there?

I'm responding to your comment that googling the address would cause us to be "a bit more enlightened." I'm not interested in staking out your neighbors; I had the impression you had some information about the property that you had found online and could link us to it.

It looks like "enlightening" discourse isn't IHTSI's strong suit, nor even his intention. Now, drive-by posting and general trolling? He's aces!

Electrician recommendation?

We live in a vintage condo with all the vagaries of wiring that implies. I need someone to install the great chandelier I found at a flea market. Thanks.

  • SpamAlert Spamophobic

Robin, if you're going to recommend Howard, couldn't you just *tell* him his voicemail is full when you get home tonight? Or maybe *you* could text message him if you won't be seeing him before then.

  • Robin...you should be commended by Howard...you recommend him for pretty much any and every project anyone has a question about on Everyblock. Are you married to him, or just a very dedicated employee?

Peoples Gas, what's going on?

For the third time this year, Peoples Gas is drilling on the same spot of the 3600 north Ashland Avenue. When we finally got the street smoothly resurfaced after the first two sloppy jobs, here we go again. One guy drilling, four guys watching and our utilities going up again.

John was my project manager for a while. Then He sent me back to Dan, for a week. Dan was let go as a project manager, but came back as a worker. At some point I was transitioned to Sam as a PM. Then they went out of business.

I've started a google group for people to join, and maybe we can seek money because of criminal activity. We will see.

Please join it so we can continue the discussions there.
