Helicopter

Wonder why there's a helicopter circling Belmont Cragin. It's been with a spotlight for at least 30 minutes now going in circles.

  • I don't know. Does it have to do with babies having babies and those babies growing up? Anyway, for my job I travel around the city. The neighborhood has changed, but there are much worse areas. May be looking up, a gay couple just bought the bungalow across the street....

I don't know. Does it have to do with babies having babies and those babies growing up? Anyway, for my job I travel around the city. The neighborhood has changed, but there are much worse areas. May be looking up, a gay couple just bought the bungalow across the street. That's a good sign. :)

About 7 years ago there were some young want to be gang bangers(three brothers) that lived across the street. Thank goodness the mother and the boys finally moved since it really quieted down. They for some reason loved my gangway and front porch. Now a few times have seen a new young man walking down the block that looks like trouble. :( Nothing to do with the way he dresses, just looks very fidgety walking, keeps looking back when walking, and has that swagger. I wonder how one learns that swagger since it's such an unnatural gait pattern.

  • Melissa, you said it was mostly teens out congregating and shouting and they really don't know any better. Why don't they know any better? And you said they need options to positively spend their time in this area. Yeah, but mostly they need parents that will spend quality time with...

Melissa, you said it was mostly teens out congregating and shouting and they really don't know any better. Why don't they know any better? And you said they need options to positively spend their time in this area. Yeah, but mostly they need parents that will spend quality time with them and keep them on a shorter leash. All the programs in the world won't make a difference if the parents don't make sure they go there, take them there or something. The kids that go there semi happily, on their own, aren't the problem, it's the kids that never make it there that may become the problem. So, how does one get those into some programs? Once again, it goes back to the parents. How does one get those parents to drink the kool-Aid? Very complicated issues, no easy "fixes", eh? :(

Shooting in Belmont-Craigin

Another shooting in Belmont-Craigin. At least gangbangers are killing each other now instead of innocent people.

  • Melissa1013 Own your streets, build your community.

Still all crazy. This nonsense comes and goes in the neighborhood and I'm sure we'd all prefer it gone. Anti Violence walks and talks can only go so far but we need resources in these neighborhood schools and mentor programs to keep these bored youth in line. They are wasting their lives now acting out and will wind up in jail, with a record or worse.

How does this happen in America!!!

This story was shared by a coworker this morning. A mother that is doomed to die due to her illegal status. Her children will have no home or a place once she is gone. Her children are half Mexican and half Puerto Rican and father absent due to her disease... Unfuckenbelievable!!! Please help Mari with any donations or please attend Sept 21 at 12pm for a gathering on her behalf. Mari is currently being evicted because she is in her last stages of cancer and cannot work. All I can think about is what happens to the kids!!! Jesus!

  • This is truly sad, does she have other family members they might be able to stay with??

  • MakeChicagoSafe Please keep our Chicago Safe

I have no idea but I have started acquiring more information about this unfortunate woman. There really needs to be better laws put in place to protect and secure children. I know I can't save the world but if I can make a difference in any child's life I want to. And as far as the father living somewhere in Humboldt park with his new girlfriend, he should be thrown in prison for being a dead beat!!!

  • I'm sorry, but I really doubt she is doomed to die because she is undocumented like you said. But her and the children getting evicted, not having the money for rent is due to her undocumented status since if she was documented could get TANF which would help some, but...

Re. there should be better laws to protect and secure children. There are, but the father doesn't seem to want to take responsibility and no law in heaven or earth can make him take responsibility. Actually, since he is Puerto Rican, she could have gone to one of those free legal clinics to have his wages garnished for child support. Yes, I know, too late now, but one shouldn't wait til one's roof is falling down to get a scum bag to take responsibility. It's not that I don't have empathy, have a ton of it, but.... . Maybe I'll go to that fundraiser. .

Dog running loose, Barry & Laramie

Traffic was stopped about 8:30am this morning for a scared dog in the intersection of Barry & Laramie. He was reddish brown, medium size, maybe a boxer? He finally got across Laramie and I thought he was going to go down Laramie so I was going to try and overtake him and then pull my car over and try to get him but then he ran down Barry and I could no longer make that turn. He was going fast and looked scared.

Loud Band

I'm on th 2600 block of Lavergne, anyone else hear this loud drumming and band playing 2nite and Saturday night? Police called but no response, they never came, so now what? We tried talking to the neighbor but nothing......

  • robin in WRP misanthrope

If the neighbor is a renter, you can contact the building owner.

  • Marty92 4- yr. resident

Send an email to the alderman and the Police Sergeant

  • I live on the 4900 block of Cornelia and I could hear it a lot more at the beginning of summer but not so much lately. Maybe cuz my air is on more now and my windows are closed... Not sure what to do about it, I can't even pinpoint where it's coming from
