Garage Sale Questions

Hi all.

Has anyone had a garage sale recently? I heard that posting signs anywhere except on your own property is a no-no and that you need to have a permit. Is this correct?

I've had an officer stop by to check for our permit. We actually didn't have one because we didn't know we needed one, but she gave us a pass as long as there were no complaints. I'd get one just to be safe in the future.

My then-neighbors actually had theirs checked this year or last, I can't remember which. They have them alot. It only took them a few minutes to walk over to the alderman's office to get the permit. Although, I do remember them telling me after the first time how surprised they were at how rude the staff was there. The staff made a point of indicating the person that would check for it and the guy said something kind of rude/threatening to them -- as threatening as garage sale permits can get, I suppose. But, that's Rey Colon's office. Hopefully, you don't have to deal with them.

Lock you tires!

I recently had my spare tire stolen off my Jeep Wrangler. I did not have it locked as I bought it new and didn't think twice of it. This was me not thinking. I replaced my spare and bought locks and a tire cover. I have found my cover pulled back twice already when going back to it in am. Neighbors be aware.

  • You might also want to consider a catalytic converter lock as Jeeps are favored among thieves due to the ease of access. Trust me, I know and a $2,000 repair bill is sure fire way to ruin your day.

  • If you have a Wrangler, it is easy to get into the hood also. I got a lock installed on mine that uses the ignition key to open it. There were several times that I found the hood latches undone on mine, but they couldn't get in. Just a thought.

  • My husband's was stolen yesterday off his jeep liberty. His was locked and had a cover on it.

Lost Keys (Wicker Park/Bucktown)

I seem to have lost my keys sometime between Thursday eve and Saturday. There are 4(?) keys on the ring - a Saab remote key, 2 bike lock keys and a locker key. Most likely lost in the Wicker Park/Bucktown area - maybe near Erhler or Holstein Parks.

Thanks.

Gunshots or Fireworks - Damen/St. Paul?

Did anyone else hear what sounded like gunshots at 3:00am this morning (10/21) around Damen/St.Paul? I heard about 5-6 loud pops. Could have been fireworks as well. Just curious.

Looking for People for a Regular Pickup Basketball

I am looking to start a regular pickup basketball game somewhere in the vicinity of Bucktown/Wicker Park/Logan Square/UK Village (basically somewhere in a near west neighborhood). I have a couple ideas on possible locations, but the most important thing is to get enough people on an email list to have at least 10 guys to run each week. Message me if you're interested!

  • Definitely interested. Let me know where you are thinking of playing and when.

  • Alright... seems like there's a decent mass of people wanting to play... could everyone send me your email address and I'll get a list going. Also, let me know if you have a day preference.. Thanks!
