We are looking for a small or shared space to actively use two days per month for breaking down our delivery, a meeting or two, storage of three refrigerators, a top opening freezer and one intermezzo type shelving unit for the remaining time. Our budget is about $100 per month for rent.

Any leads would be really appreciated. The building we are currently located in will be unavailable to us anymore very soon. We are great tenants and can get you references from our previous location.

Center For Neighborhood Technology is our current spot, but they are moving.

I'd love to hear from contacts at local schools and churches.

We are pretty awesome if I do say so myself as a member. Consider joining.

Thanks so much,
Kate

About us:

Chicago Food Coop is a food buying club made up of individuals who collectively purchase groceries directly from distributors. We have an advantage over the individual consumer because we can purchase goods at wholesale (discounted) prices and pass the savings on to our members. We strive to bring our members variety and value. Our grocery suppliers are selected to provide the items that members want and as a buying club the price we pay for grocery items is often even lower than listed.

I think you should call Sister Alicia Torres at Our Lady of Angels in West Humboldt Park. Your work would dovetail really well with a few things they are already doing. http://www.missionola.com/

Good luck and thanks for all you are doing!

There are tons of small building, small congregation settings that might be interested in an arrangement beyond the $ considerations. Also, you could check with Hope Christian Academy/Church over at Ogden/Taylor in the UIC west campus area. Even if they arent interested they could probably point you in the right direction. Private message me and I'll give you the number for my roommate. He is well connected at Hope as well as other faith based communities

Not sure if this will help, I would contact St. Stanislaus Kostka Church on Noble off of Division Street. They have a soup kitchen.

    Stanislaus Kostka Providence Soup Kitchen
The St. Stan’s Providence Soup Kitchen serves lunch
Monday through Friday 11:30 PM to 12:30 PM. The soup
kitchen is looking for volunteers to help prepare and
serve lunch for the needy especially on Tuesdays and
Thursdays which are the two days that are low on help. If
you are interested please call Sr. Florine who is the
    director at 773/558-9258.

Good Bucktown Bakery?

I find myself in the market for 80 assorted sandwich rolls to sever beef tenderloin and chicken salad on for a wedding shower. Can my neighbors recommend a bakery in or near Bucktown/ Wicker Park that is known for their bread? I know several with great sweets but I've never bought this much bread before! Thanks! :-)

  • One more for Red Hen. It is delicious and not cheap though. They sell those rolls to high end restaurants. Of course, I can't remember which ones. : (

  • I second Anne's bakery on Chicago and Leavitt. You can smell the fresh baked bread in the alley every morning!!

Halfway Homes in Bucktown, West Town Spur Neighbors' Lawsuits

The other suit, which focuses on the Bucktown "Winchester House" at 2128 N. Winchester St., alleges that after the home opened, cigarette butts were flicked at neighbors' dogs. The dogs also were verbally harassed, the document alleges.

Few 911 calls have been made to the 2100 block of North Winchester Street recently, police said.

This article has 1 other Chicago location (Show)

One suit, which centers on the West Town halfway house at 530 N. Marshfield Ave., alleges the home's opening in February "has directly caused" theft, emergency intervention for drug-related problems, traffic, noise, loitering and harassment.

I used to live next door to the WInchester sober house. When I first moved in, I thought it was a drug house because there is people day and night pulling up, running inside for 5 minutes, and running back out. I then found out it was a sober house from one of the residents, which surprised me. When I asked him why I see people running in like that, he had no clue about it or why they would do that. My conclusion/assumption is while some of the residents may be on their way to recovery, unfortunately you still have one or two bad apples still involved in drugs. It is definitely more than a coincidence that random people are running inside for 5 minutes constantly throughout the day. It also stopped for a period of two months while I was there, then started back up again, so I just think it depends on who the residents are at the time.

After years of being an empty giant quintuple vacant lot, this morning I noticed that ground has broken on this prime land. Does anybody have any idea what the plans are? Condos or a GIANT home? Thanks!

Catalytic converter stolen last night 4/20

Just a heads up, we had both catalytic converters stolen off of our truck parked on Cortland and Honore last night. I'll be reporting it, even if nothing happens. Just an FYI for the rest of you. May want to check your vehicles!

  • Thanks, Kyle!

  • bummer. I've had a couple cats cut off too over the last 5 years. even though now I usually park in a garage I did get a 'cat clamp'. I had A to Z Auto install it. they are up western just north of Irving. I am still weary of street parking though! =(

$20 to rake the yard?

Has anyone had a guy ring the doorbell to offer to rake your yard for $20? I think he's been around before to shovel the sidewalk in the winter. Sounds like a good deal but I'm cautious. Any insight?

  • You could hire him, and then work along side him (or do something else outside while watching him) to make sure the job gets done and he's genuine. If he's trying to rip you off, he will leave almost immediately once he knows you are watching him..

We have a larger yard than it looks from the front. He worked hard for two hours and never said anything about the amount of work. In the end we gave him much more than he asked for (fair's fair) but he didn't know that and never stopped working. He also turned down a root beer I offered him when he thought it was actual beer and only accepted when it was clearly just soda.

As you might suspect he is homeless. He is trying to earn money for his daily food and shelter. I hope he finds more work.

Buses on Western Ave between wabansia and milwaukee

Can someone tell me whats going on with all these buses? They shut down parking on the east side of western ave and there have been the extended buses lined up there for a week or so. Are they learning new routes or is this something that is going to last into the summer?

I think it's stupid because we have all that already , we have ourselves and passengers covered and also anything that happens in the whole accident is covered .... They are trying to regulate us but our rideshare provider is one step ahead of the game already ... These cab drivers and their medallion holders are kicking and screaming like babies because they want it their way. They say we are taking away money from their business , but in reality ride sharing is much more organized and pleasant for the passenger . It's freedom of choice the consumer should have the option to pick who they would like to ride with we are just out here making a pretty buck just like them except we don't have the option to be flagged down in our downtime. They do have good perks but they don't look at what advantages they have , their just looking to clear out the playing field :(

  • Hello - wondering if you ever received a reco for fabric dyeing in Chicago? I'm wanting get two (cotton blend) jackets dyed for Spring/ Summer and would love a local vendor. Thanks!

  • BaR artist & longtime resident

    Marisa,

No, I didn't come across any sources for this. Found a few online but were expensive and you have to send the items to them. My original request item is no longer needed but should you hear of a local source, I would love to know about it. Thanks, Barbara
