My Brittany sustained bite wounds from an incident that occurred with a Border Collie mix a couple blocks East of Damen near the new RR Park.

An unleashed border collie mix ran up to my dog while he was being walked by our dog walker. My dog was spooked and they began fighting. They were separated and the dogs owner (or walker) said the dog had shots. As my dog walker began checking my dog, the owner who had head phones on began walking away. At the time my dog walker did not notice any wounds and did not get a chance to get any of the owners info. Once he removed the collar he noticed the open wound that was hidden underneath.

My dog sustained two open bite wound injuries on the neck, bruising and missing fur on various locations. I now have a vet bill of $165.88 that I would like paid by the border collie's owner. If you are the owner or know the owner of this dog, please contact me.

Follow up from locking your tires.

These jerk offs are still trying to get at my wrangler spare. Happened on early Saturday morning. My tire cover is pulled back and there was some scratches on my wheel lock. Looks like that they are just trying to get it off with a lug wrench. I have Mopar wheel locks on my spare. Anyone suggest a better lock? I'm gonna have an alarm system put it soon. I need a garage!!!

  • They got my friend's tire Saturday night:(. Go to a tire shop and get a cheap used spare on a basic rim. Keep the locking lug nuts on it and cover it. They won't want it then and you won't have to worry about it. They have been sweeping the city lately.

  • I'm curious. What does the tire thief do with the tire once it's stolen? Who buys it? Also, are there alarms for spares? Thanks.

  • So be on the lookout for two minivans. One is an astro van. My friend saw these guys in action but had to keep a distance as he was by himself. He's a dog walker and sees these guys on occasion. I know it's them because my gf was getting...

So be on the lookout for two minivans. One is an astro van. My friend saw these guys in action but had to keep a distance as he was by himself. He's a dog walker and sees these guys on occasion. I know it's them because my gf was getting in the jeep in the early am and saw two vans passing by slowly. One was playing the lookout and the one was up to something. It was the same day my tire was messed with. My friend is gonna try to snap a shot at the license plate the next chance he gets.

Kudos to the city...

...for finally repairing the road nightmares that were Fullerton Avenue and Logan Boulevard. Relentless 311 requests for pothole repairs and paving surveys finally yielded some much needed action on two much traveled thoroughfares. The work looks good; what had once resembled the surface of the moon now rides like the Circuit of the Americas. Now we just need some action to address the safety of pedestrians around dangerous intersections, such as Oakley and Fullerton, where crossing the street is like level 19 Frogger.

Lock you tires!

I recently had my spare tire stolen off my Jeep Wrangler. I did not have it locked as I bought it new and didn't think twice of it. This was me not thinking. I replaced my spare and bought locks and a tire cover. I have found my cover pulled back twice already when going back to it in am. Neighbors be aware.

  • My husband's was stolen yesterday off his jeep liberty. His was locked and had a cover on it.

  • Happened to my Honda CRV a few weeks ago too. Reported to police but looks like they swept the area.

Time to plant parkway trees

Fall is the best time to plant trees. Home Depot on Elston has all their trees half price. I picked up a 12 foot red maple shade tree and they only charged me $8 so that might have been 75% off. The lady working the garden center said this is the time Home Depot needs to get rid of their tree stock. Don't mean to sound like an ad for Home Depot but I didn't go there to buy a tree but ended up with one. The root balls are small so digging a hole for it should be simple. No need to deal with the city either.

  • Don't forget "right tree, right place!" A tree planted in the wrong area for the type of tree species could have bad consequences for the tree's life and the surrounding area. That being said, we can never have enough trees and this seems like a great deal!

  • mwalcheske Enthusiast

Bought 4 evergreens from Home Depot a few years back and all 4 died quickly. I returned them, got my $ back, bought 4 more of the same varietal from a local garden shop, and today all 4 are healthy and thriving. I learned my lesson. I tried to save $ by getting my trees at Home Depot, but it didn't work out. I've heard others say the same thing about buying their trees from them as well. Just food for thought.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, but figured you'd like to know he's still out there, and not very far away. I'll keep an eye out, for sure.

  • CICS Bucktown reviewed by a parent

When my daughter first attended this school in kindergarten, the school, teachers and staff were great. Now that she has entered the 6th grade, I fear that the school has slowly gone downhill. Some of the middle school teachers are too lenient, allowing the students to take over the classroom and interrupt learning. Children are being accepted from different parts of the city, majority of the students are wild, untamable and ghetto. I guess you can expect this entering middle school in a Chicago Charter (public) School, but the parents and families don't set a good example either (they're just as ghetto as their children). This is going to be my child's last year here...hoping I can still save her from the bad influence from my fellow minorities.

Garage Sale Questions

My then-neighbors actually had theirs checked this year or last, I can't remember which. They have them alot. It only took them a few minutes to walk over to the alderman's office to get the permit. Although, I do remember them telling me after the first time how surprised they were at how rude the staff was there. The staff made a point of indicating the person that would check for it and the guy said something kind of rude/threatening to them -- as threatening as garage sale permits can get, I suppose. But, that's Rey Colon's office. Hopefully, you don't have to deal with them.

  • Many thanks for all your help. We were able get our permit today--same day service! I was a skeptic on the quick turnaround suggested in these comments. I am glad I was proved wrong.

So! Garage sale. This Saturday near the corner of Leavitt and Charleston. See you there?

Lost Keys (Wicker Park/Bucktown)

I seem to have lost my keys sometime between Thursday eve and Saturday. There are 4(?) keys on the ring - a Saab remote key, 2 bike lock keys and a locker key. Most likely lost in the Wicker Park/Bucktown area - maybe near Erhler or Holstein Parks.

Thanks.
