Development across from Target

Does anyone know what is being built across Aberdeen street from the Target store on Jackson ? I see signs that it's being developed by Praedium Development Corp. They are based in Northbrook but have no working website and what appears to be a History with strip malls. Usually I can find something on the Internet about a development. I think First Eagle Bank was doing the financing. I'm hoping for a Panera....

  • I haven't seen much activity there. It's been cordoned off and vacant for some time now. I do hope they find something good to go in there as it looks awful and the sidewalk needs fixing in that area as well.

Hopefully we hear something soon about what's going on in that spot.

  • Marco from Tropoje Two-flat owner

They've actually laid the foundation and started the steel framing. It's such a small space, I can't imagine what kind of retail stores could go there; not sure how it's zoned, plus no real room for parking.

  • I'm glad they've started doing something! I walk by with my dog often and the only thing I noticed was that the green construction tarp was moved out and blocked the sidewalk section towards Jackson. I'm curious to know what's going in there!

Decent Gyms in the Area?

Hi neighbors. My husband and I are looking for an affordable and clean gym to join in the Pilsen - South Loop - Chinatown - Bridgeport area (we live at Archer and Canal). I have not heard the best reviews for the place at Canal and Roosevelt, nor for the one west of us at Cermak and Rockwell. This past month, we signed up for a month's membership at the gym in the Chinatown park district building. We're not that impressed though and were wondering if there were other good options in the area. We'd appreciate any suggestions you might have!

  • West loop realist Teacher political operative

Avoid FFC. I joined a few years ago and it was a macho arrogant steroid poser place. Couldn't even get a place at the pool with all the staff letting their drunk friends in for free. Avoid this place.

  • Thanks for the additional tips! @bun bun - I have found that I am more motivated to work out if I have paid for a membership. Even if it is cheap, it still motivates me to go and not let the money go to waste. I find it much harder...

Thanks for the additional tips! @bun bun - I have found that I am more motivated to work out if I have paid for a membership. Even if it is cheap, it still motivates me to go and not let the money go to waste. I find it much harder to get up the motivation to work out at home. Plus our apartment is pretty small.

@Miki - we actually had decided on Snap Fitness and drove over to sign up, but we couldn't find parking and traffic was a mess because of construction. We decided we didn't want to have to deal with that every time we wanted to work out. Definitely a deterrence for us. =/

I think we're going to stick with the park district for now and re-evaluate our options when we move next spring since we do not know which neighborhood we'll end up in. I have all of these suggestions noted so I can revisit them at that time. Thanks again everyone!!
