Will Natalino's ever re-open?

Hi neighbors!

Does anyone know why Natalino's closed down a few years ago?

There is a large "license revoked" sign posted on the side, but what is the story here?

I never got the chance to try it out, but I heard the food and service were great.
This neighborhood needs a great Italian eatery!

Any idea if something will ever open up in its place?

Just to set the record straight, as Mr. Beef's accountant, the owner of Mr. Beef owned the building and his business partner ran the restaurant. Hope that clears up any confusion here.

(Crain's) — Midwest Bank has filed a foreclosure lawsuit to collect about $650,000 on Mr. Beef, the longtime Italian beef sandwich restaurant in River North.

The Melrose Park-based bank alleges that Mr. Beef's co-owners, Joseph Zucchero and Michael Genevese, failed to pay off two loans, totaling $330,000, when they came due in October, and missed monthly payments on a third loan, according to a complaint filed Dec. 19 in Cook Court Circuit Court.

The loan problems aren't tied to the performance of Mr. Beef, a Chicago culinary institution at 666 N. Orleans St. The difficulties could be a simple story of restaurateurs overextending themselves at a bad time. A portion of the loans on the Mr. Beef building were used to cover costs of Natalino's, a West Town restaurant that Messrs. Zucchero and Genevese opened in March, "just on the cusp of this whole economic meltdown," Mr. Zucchero says ruefully.

But Mr. Zucchero says Natalino's, a 120-seat restaurant... "does phenomenal, even in this market." Instead, he sees the foreclosure case as an example of how some tight-fisted lenders are squeezing small entrepreneurs.

In addition to the Midwest Bank loans, Norridge-based Plaza Bank holds a $2-million loan secured in part by the Chicago Avenue property. The Plaza Bank loan is current, Mr. Zucchero says...

Both banks have rebuffed efforts to refinance those loans and other debts, which total about $3.5 million, he says. Messrs. Zucchero and Genevese say they have offered to put up properties worth more than $6 million to secure the loans.

"You'd think they (the banks) would go, 'OK, come on in and talk this out and get this thing rehashed," Mr. Zucchero says....

Modest cost overruns made finances even tighter. Mr. Zucchero admits missing payments to Midwest Bank, but blames that in part on non-Hodgkins lymphoma that he was diagnosed with last year, which took him away from the business.

gun shots?

Did anyone hear what sounded like two gun shots this morning around 3:15? I live on Franklin Street.

  • If no one was killed I doubt they will put it in the media. As said above a lot of bad things that happen in that area do not make it to the media in attempt to keep a good reputation.

  • Erik H Loyola & UofC alumnus, Chicago Loot Drop charity

    1) If you hear gunshots, call 911. They will probably ask you how many shots you heard and which direction the sound came from.

    2) The best source for granular police-response info is probably this Twitter account, which tweets out info from the police scanner: https://twitter.com/Chicago_Scanner

    3) Between the scanner info and that it wasn't reported on Chicago Breaking News or CLTV, I'd guess that nobody was too hurt. The scanner said "battery," which could be GSW (gun-shot wound), but simple battery can just be getting punched or pushed around.
