Attach foias if you are aware service was dispatched many times and the problem still exists. If you ordered many times and apparemtly got nothing do a foia for several years. U may discovered someone lied and said they did the work but never successfully did the work.

Examples on my block were: (17)times crews came to change a leaky water meter (2) hour job. 85 cuts on vacant lots ( perhaps 18) were really cut. Blue recycle, bins marked delivered (3) times and never delivered at multiple houses. Service for a leaky parkway device (5) service disparches and never fixed. (3000) service, requests" for a black bin and garbage pickup, that never was done. Years of service calls for pot holes. The list goes on for a couple decades.

Let the games begin.lets see if we can transition these discussions into GETTING the city service.

Post the results here.

Requested the Commander of 12/13 get his people on it.

Requested that Bike Patrol, Foot Patrol, Beat cars do more than just drove down the street. They can do more than chat as 6 walk down tje street. They can talk policing issues instead of personal chatting.

Perhaps they meed one of those meck cameras that show what they pass by and what they talk about.! This could improve their productivity and make EGP Safer.

I always heard that the West side was the red-headed step-child of black Chicago. Always ignored and last to get city services. After living hear for a few years, I realize this is definitely the case. Our Rotten Mayor Rahm Emanuel has completely ignored the West side, EVEN during his re-election bid. He doesn't even care to get our votes.

The West side is completely stagnant. I've been following many of the events, upgrades and investments happening throughout the entire South side from Pullman, Roseland, Washington Park, Bronzeville & especially Englewood. Englewood is getting a Whole Foods Market, has several new technology incubators, food labs, King-Kennedy College, several new coffee shops, independently owned cafes/restaurants and more. Englewood is actually on the come-up and the ball is rolling! I LOVE IT! Englewood is grass-rooting itself out the hole! I'm extremely happy for them because I love a "comeback against all odds" story,

Why are East Garfield Park & West Garfield Park still ignored? I think I have to look in the mirror on this one. We allow an Alderman to continue getting into office without holding him accountable for doing absolutely nothing. I also don't think people on the West side have the innovation or community pride to make such changes in our community. I see no visual signs of cultural pride such as tech incubators, coffee shops, independently owned boutiques, art galleries, musical events, playhouses etc. happening on the West side. Alderman Ervin would rather host a Superbowl Party with strippers for West side gangsters. I'm beginning to believe what everyone told me about Garfield Park before moving here. The West side is just different (and not in a good way).

agreed the 28th ward does nothing.I called a week ago to ask why are streets haven't been swept yet(its supposed to be twice a month April to Nov).they told me they don't have any control and I should call the 28th ward streets and san station.and of course that's run by Ervin and ed smiths old office boss.and they didn't know when the street would be cleaned because of budget cuts???? across the street on Kedzie in the 27 ward Washington blvd has already been cleaned twice in April.I guess the budget cuts don't affect the 27th ward.for the last four to five years Washington blvd between Kedzie and Homan averages a clean three times for the season.thats 13 times less then it should be.the city cant even keep a street cleaned how are they going to solve any of the other problems that plague the west side.

  • also can you send a letter to mayor about the first house on south side of street on maypole past ike simms heading to kedzie.back yard is used as a toilet and drug spot.over 50 letters to mayor over two years and still no action.thanks.

Rahm Emanuel has a plan to develop the West side:

"He talked about appointing West Siders to boards overseeing Chicago Public Schools and City Colleges and about developing an “economic development strategy” to rebuild the city’s West Side. Emanuel wants it to be community-driven and maximize five “major assets”: the Illinois Medical District, Malcolm X College, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the United Center and the Garfield Park Conservatory."

Does this "so-called" development plan only go as far west as Pulaski Avenue? Are West Garfield Park & North Lawndale left out of this development plan? My guess would be yes.

Thanks for sharing this, We Need Change. It does seem as if the Mayor heard our complaints about omitting the West Side, and is incorporating this new language in his narrative. I share your concern that he is not committed to North Lawndale Austin or West Garfield Park. Heretofore, the Mayor has allowed our communities to continue to languish on the vine. We need to continue to advocate for change and to make our voices heard.

    Most definitely Valerie.

I plan to see how I can get a position on this board. The best way to ensure that every corner of the West side is included is to be present. We need to know this is not a sound bite but actually a plan that comes to fruition. We have to keep the pressure on the Mayor and make him keep his word.

Personally, I'll be moving out of state soon. But I still have property on the West side that I plan to keep, so I continue to have a vested interest on the West side. I hope others who'll be here on a consistent basis will also join this board. We need this to happen.

Public Trash Cans

Hi. Does anyone know how we can get some trash cans placed around EGP and North Lawndale, or any West Side neighborhoods really? Hi. Does anyone know how we can get some trash cans placed around EGP and North Lawndale, or any West Side neighborhoods really? Other neighborhoods have trash cans on the corners of busy intersections. Some are nice and neighborhood centric some are just the plain old can. Those are perfectly serviceable. The amount of trash that just gets thrown around is truly disgusting. It is too much for the few folks that care to go around cleaning everyone else's messes, not that we don't try. I don't understand the mentality of people that litter. Are they not disgusted by how trashy the neighborhood looks? I figure at least if there are places to put trash then something might start to change.

So I'm going to put in a request with my alderman this week, but that's not always the best solution. Does anyone know of any other ways to reach out, and make this happen?

Also, don't turn this thread into a whine fest about the alderman, government, lazy neighbors, etc. Problems and hurdles can be overcome.

  • I will help any way I can...please please let's start working to get this done.. contact me..

Right on mediabites. Thank god I'm not in his ward, I'm in Burnett's ward. I can relate however, I once lived in the 24th ward, and that is a bigger circus than the 28th. Can't say i looked back since I left. It was a tough decision but I realized the neighborhood was going down the tubes and I didn't want to be a part of it.

Shots on Gladys and Hamlin

Hey, did anyone hear shots ringing out on Tuesday evening around 8 or 9 on Gladys and Hamlin?

  • Barney Seth Barnhart Thirteen year Garfield Park resident

I used the time to talk to them about money. I give them credit they want to make a lot of money. The best was when I ran short of cash and paid a couple with change. The five year old who is so smart said, "You don't have any paper money, I'll come back tomorrow when you do." Kids!

All I did was start cleaning up, the kids came on their own.
