I went to a meeting after the sun times ran the article about his Maywood drug house. Ervin said at the meeting that white people made up those stories because they don't like to see successful black people. He also was quoted in the paper after the sun times did a story saying he wasn't even supposed to be on the ballot because he didn't put on his economic disclosure form that he was getting rent from then 28th ward alderman ed smith. His quote in the paper was he forgot he owned the building. Yet he's qualified to be a Alderman??

  • I guess Ervin considers drug dealers to be successful entrepreneurs.

Technically, he might be correct. The drug business is run like any other business. Drug lords know as much about business as any fortune 500 CEO.

Caught Red Handed/changing timing on yellow lights

Has anyone gotten a red light ticket where the time was less than the 3 seconds allowed by law?

I saw in the Sun Trib a large article where the city illegally got 8mil from issuing tickets to people who did NOT break the law.

The city will KEEP the ill gotten funds.

If that is true...that sucks. Why should a mayor and his CDOT Commissioner be allowed to break the law and get away with it.

Red light cameras continue to be a problem for car drivers in Chicago.

As traffic violations affect insurance rates. As it is expensive to pay a ticket, the fines, and school...this action against Chicago drivers should be addressed by ALL Aldermen!

Get the $$ back for those who were ticketed illegally!

What do others think? Have any of us gotten one of those bogus tickets?

  • Tracy BB Super Cute Tracy

I tried to fight it and they claimed they never got my request for hearing and doubled the fine and now said it was out of their hands.

It is true that MAIL can be terrible in Chicago. Who knows if it is a postal fiasco or another systemic failure in Chicagos' parking tickets.

THANKS for the response. Ask Jackiowak if she can look into it. If it is a system failure, we can also send to the DOIT top person. Department of Information technology and the Inspector general. The Trib also has investigators who might be interested in your case as DATA to support their claims about Chicago Parking Tickets.

There is also a head of the parking tickets. He should look into if their lock box person dropped the ball or the mail. That person has the authority to do that. I used to know the guy...he was WONDERFUL. But he is gone now. The question is, Who replaced Mat D?

The Koyal Group Info Mag Scientists got it wrong on gravitational waves

It was announced in headlines worldwide as one of the biggest scientific discoveries for decades, sure to garner Nobel prizes. But now it looks likely that the alleged evidence of both gravitational waves and ultra-fast expansion of the universe in the big bang (called inflation) has literally turned to dust.

The boys ran towards the 3300 block W on Carroll. Be on the look out for these (3) boys. The smaller one had a maroon jacket, khaki pants and new white low-cut gym shoes. The second one had on a light gray hoodie jacket with black pants. The third one had on a green hoodie jacket with brown pants. They were cleanly dressed. One of them was so small with brown and blonde short dreads, he fit through the separation of the fence. The other (2) are slender and taller.

Did you see where they have resources (approx 100 cars and 200 men) to go after a guy who shot one police captain last night?

If we do the math...$1000 wk /5=$200 per man unless they were on overtime. 200 men X $200 rate= $40,000 of men allocated to stand all night for 2 guys in one static location.

If we get shot...we don't get that kind of service that is for sure.

Where is it written that if an officer goes down the entire force responds but we have to sit and wait???

Why doesn't the government promote urban renewal as it has done in many neighborhoods? Safety is a primary requisite for neighborhoods to get better.

Is it the leadership? Some adjacent wards have had good progress these past few years because of good leadership. But not in 28.

The video tape should have included the drug dealers. Many of them hang out at 3800 W. Maypole and 3300 W. Maypole. The drug addicts come from everywhere including Madison & Pulaski. The drugs in the park have been reported by the community to the police for more than 15 years. The park district manager, Jim said he doesn't manage police matters. The park district workers cut grass, pick up trash, etc. knowing the heroin huts and drug sales are going on. The police have been called about open air alcohol drinking too. They just drive through. The park district blames the Alderman, the Alderman blames CPD, CPD blames the people, and Caps never report the whole story from the residents to all parties involved. The park district need to assign a squad car to Garfield Park and cameras. The bikes are not working.

Turning a blind eye is what goes on. This makes no sense at all because a half dozen city employees turn a blind eye daily.

That is why it is so bad here. City employees do not do their civic duty and turn in drug dealers. Go figure???

Civilians should give evidence but not city workers?????

It is big news today. Seems that Police Departments nationally have neglected to process rape kits. One State decided to process the dna kits and discovered that many rapists are serial rapists who also commit other crimes like robbery and drug dealing. Processing rape kits will find one offender for many offenses and has a more than 85% conviction rate as opposed to the 3% conviction rate most departments have now.

This means that a career criminal who is responsible for multiple crimes could be incarcerated as opposed to walking the streets and committing crimes against innocent victims.

Would the south side and west side get safer if CPD processed Rape kit dna samples? It sounds like it might! Would some of these Quinn release prisoners be picked up again for other crimes? Maybe. It is worth a shot.

Anybody know anything on this topic?

THANKS for the help! U see, our problem is that most residents sit and do NOTHING. It is easy to get service. We just have to ask and SHOW THEM what the issues are.

Somehow, news from the bottom (especially in disinvested neighborhoods) doesn't get to the top in away that they can see we are being shated/shortchanged.

If we can't get EGP residents to participate...perhaps we can start our own crowdsourcing campaign.

A good one would be to watch satelite aerial views, and get CDOT to repair potholes in clusters. That would eliminate the "on demand" service at CRM software of 311. If no one calls, no service is dispatched.

Did u get notice about 2900 W. fulton?

All we need is some early extreme cold and/or snow and it's back on the "to do"list for 2015 and we cannot afford to have CDOT do that!.

These streets look like moon craters and need a total extreme makeover this year and not next year. You are right about the "cluster issue' which will keep City crews from criss-crossing the city and missing so much.

I am highly recommending that the "Grid" system be used. This is the same system that 2nd Ward Alderman Robert Fioretti introduced which now keeps our city residential trash picked up more regularly.

All the City has to do is to implement this same system for pothole repair. This way our City potholes will be repaired in "clusters" and not be repetitive with the "hit and miss" they are doing now. I am working on this and will get back with you within the coming days.

Cpd goes after gangs. Is it enough?

https://us-mg5.mail.yahoo.com/neo/launch?.rand=c5j9lehqd1t4d#mail

The alderman has let us know that a drug ring has been arrested in East Garfield Park.

The question is; is 10 arrests enough? This is a 30 or 40 year old drug district with rapid fire sales.

It is a good start. Residents have been asking for help for decades. What else can we do?

Garfield Park Heroin Hut was on CBS a couple nights ago. Did any of you see it?

Got an email from the CDOT Commissioner. Seems 3200/3300 W. Washington Blvd is on the fall schedule for complete resurfacing! This falls under the Mayors' extended paving initiative.

Hopefully it did NOT come out of the Aldermans' menu $$ as the Mil plus does not go far enough in a nasty ward like 28.

Dyman Associates Risk Management: 10 lessons learned from major retailers' cyber breaches

There has been extensive adverse publicity surrounding what has become the largest data breach in the retail industry, affecting Target and two other U.S. retailers. In November-December 2013, cyber thieves executed a well-planned intrusion into Target’s computer network and the point-of-sale terminals at its 1,800 stores around the holiday season and successfully obtained not only 40 million customers’ credit and debit card information, but also non-card customer personal data for as many as 70 million customers. In addition, 1.1 million payment cards from Neiman Marcus and 3 million cards used at Michaels were reportedly exposed.

Any thoughts on CPD Foot Patrol in your area?

We had a frustrating Sat night. 12-25 small kids were running around on a federally subsidized section 8 building on the 3200/3300 W. Maypole block unsupervised. They were ages 1-7. Private security said that CPD foot patrol would go out. Believe it or not, Foot patrol could not get those toddlers and tikes under control!!!!

Anybody else experiencing the cat and mouse game of patrol walks, element moves; only to return say 3-5 min later? Seems this is a tremendous...

Anybody else experiencing the cat and mouse game of patrol walks, element moves; only to return say 3-5 min later? Seems this is a tremendous WASTE of taxpayer $$.

No curfew violations written. No kids taken to their parents. Is this where training starts on the streets at age 1-7?

Anybody else got stories of ineffective FOOT PATROL?

Lets talk about it and send the link to the Police Board.

DUH... a broken ineffective welfare program??? A set up for failure since day one, but I guess our government thought all black people and others who refuse to accept Imperialist Anglo-saxon culture would be dead and gone by now. Wish people would use real names on here and take OFF THE HOOD. If you don't like it... look me up: Susan Mullan

You're right Blackworld, not everyone allows their kids outside at all hours to disrupt and cause general mayhem. Shocker! I can only imagine what your kids are out doing, if you consider it okay for that behavior to go on. Guess you thought you were safe, acting like that over in GP, but guess what, the times, they is a 'changin'. That behavior is being noticed and it's not appreciated in neighborhoods where people actually care about their community, their property and their neighbors. And if you DON'T allow your kids to behave like that, (which I'm sure you are going to immediately be defensive again, and claim it's a race thing) then, you shouldn't have a problem with people wanting to make sure these kids are okay and being provided for in a loving way. Any kid that wants to be on the street for all hours of the night, probably has a terrible home life and it should probably be looked into. Susan Mullan? Give me a break......make things up much?
