What the heck is "deconversion" and why would I sign up for permit for it if I'm in my basement?

  • I suspect it was an illegal apartment and they got caught.

Found dog - Male Chihuahua

Does anyone know this dog? I found him
near Elston and Lawrence at noon on 4/18/14. He has no microchip and no one has called local shelter/animal hospitals looking for him. Please share if you can. He's really sweet and I really hope to be able to reconnect him with his human companion. Thanks!

  • The neighbors found a Chihuahua just north of there several years ago and no one ever came looking for her. They even went door to door trying to find her owner. The neighbors ended up keeping her.

FYI in the future I would advise not posting a photo of a found dog. It is too easy then for someone who is unscrupulous to try and claim a dog that isn't theirs.

I understand your concern with posting a picture, but posting a picture was the only way I found my girl! Someone I knew saw her picture and got a hold of me. My girl was over 26 miles away. I would of never thought she would of made it that far. She even had on a different collar then the one she went missing with . The true family would have vet records, rabies tag verification (you can call the vet to verify),many pictures of their pup with the family, etc. Even without a picture some will try to claim a pup that isn't theirs. Thank you for keeping this boy safe while trying to find his family. He could very well be from out of the area and hopefully someone will know who his family is,.

  • I understand the photo concern as well. I would definitely ask someone to verify with photos/ vet records to make sure. I hope we are able to find his family soon.

Police activity on Pulaski just south of Foster Friday afternoon 4/18/14

Does anyone know why there were two police and three undercover cars on Pulaski yesterday afternoon (4/18/14)?There was also yellow tape on the fence by the entrance to the park's parking lot on the west side of Pulaski just south of Foster.

  • I'm curious to know as well. I saw a forensics van parked too.

  • C

I spoke with a police officer yesterday and he said 2 Hispanic males stabbed another Hispanic male.

  • Thanks for the info. I knew it had to be something serious because I had never seen so much police presence in this area.

The attack happened about 9:20 a.m. on April 10.

Police described the man as white, between 45 and 55 years old with brown eyes, gray hair with a portion of it dyed brown, a gray beard and a trimmed mustache.

The police sketch released by police doesn't show the beard or mustache.

He's between about 5-foot-7 or 5-foot-8 and about 160 pounds. Police said he wore a navy blue jacket, navy blue shirt and blue jeans. The jacket and jeans were described as dirty.

The van is old, white and lacking windows or writing on the side. It had a ladder tied to the roof by yellow rope with clear windows on the back door and tools and an orange cable in the back.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call 312-744-8200.

Graffiti- Spray painting a house.

I called the police, they came awhile later. We talked, they handcuffed him. That's the only time he showed any emotion at all. He cried, policed ask if that was my building. I called the police, they came awhile later. We talked, they handcuffed him. That's the only time he showed any emotion at all. He cried, policed ask if that was my building. It wasn't so the cop told me there was nothing they could do unless the owner of the house was there to sign the complaint???? What the hell, the owners were out for the night and we couldn't get ahold of them. So away then went, kid in the cop car. But nothing was going to happen. What about that we witnessed this CRIME. If this is what happens, no punishment no trouble. The punks and trouble makers know. The chances they will get off is great! ( we are in Mayfair area)

The UniBomber once lived in Lombard with his parents:

  • Tom from Mayfair 41 years in Mayfair area

The sad thing is, if the parents cared enough to set a good example, they would make that child clean it off. No matter how long it took. But my guess is that since the kid is left to roam without any supervision, nothing will be done and he will do worst things in the future. Parent have to be made responsible for their children's act. But I am old school also.

Speed Limit Cameras on Foster

How can we volunteer to have Foster Avenue, between Elston and Kimball, set as the first area to test the speed-limit cameras?

This section of Foster is clearly posted as a 30 MPH zone, yet because of the large area of parks and little parking there is a very large amount of speeding down this street. It's a real threat to pedestrians, senior citizens, children, bicyclists, and other using the public streets.

This would be a good place to test the system. Speed limit signs are clearly posted along the route and new signs wouldn't even be needed.
