Looking for Port O Potty on short notice

My husband is hosting a small, family style even this weekend, and the company he was working with, Johnny on the Spot, messed up the order and now has left him hanging. Anyone know of a place that's open late on a Friday that would be able to help us out short notice? I should mention that this is a charity social event.

  • What a bummer:( I'm assuming it's needed by tomorrow morning? I'm wondering if it might be worthwhile to just cold call a bunch of places first thing and mention your situation, that it's for a good cause, and see if anyone might help?

The man came out from under the car and got into a black SUV on the passenger side and drove away.
My father could not provide a description of the man other than he was male, light complexion and was wearing dark clothing.
He described the SUV as a later model Explorer or Toyota Highlander with silver trim and bumpers, along with a spare on the back.
Keep an eye out.

Sherri, gangs generally rely more on crack cocaine than they do on Pot. Crack is highly addictive and very cheap, unlike pot. Besides, in places like Colorado where pot is now legal, illegal sales are still continuing since legal pot is taxed and much more expensive than from the streets. If Chicago made marijuana totally legal, it would benefit so much from the tax. One could hope it could provide for more police as well.

Sorry, that was off topic. But I don't know that the theft of the converters are gang related or not. Not all thefts are gang related.

What I am wondering is if certain types of cars are being targeted for catalytic converter theft, or is it any make of car?

  • George F in Ravenswood displaced New Yorker

Rachel is correct, The theft of catalytic converters are not exactly a revenue stream for Chicago street gangs. It's probably to labor intensive for the average jackass, but it doesn't mean that some of these thieves aren't gang members. Some of them are drug addicted, and this is easy money.

Donating old engineering textbooks

I have a few boxes of early 1990's vintage electrical engineering textbooks that I've finally grudgingly admitted I will never, ever, use again. After spending $$$ on them back then, it would pain me greatly to just dump them in the recycling bin. I know there are websites like www.betterworldbooks.com that I could donate to, but I'd like to try to find a local library, school, or other neighborhood organization to donate them to instead. Does anyone know of any groups looking for this kind of textbook?

Before and after school care needed

We are in need of a child sitter for before and after school care for a 7 year old child. We would need someone to watch him before school and drop him off at school, then pick him up from school and watch him until one of us gets home. We're in north Lincoln square. This would only be necessary when I'm out of town for work. Please inquire if you're interested. Thank you.

  • Gina M Lincoln Square Resident

We would also need a sitter on days that he's off from school when we work, or if he's sick and home from school.

  • Sherri Bourdage Parent, Local business owner

Doesn't your school have programs? You can also try sittercity.com.

  • Gina M Lincoln Square Resident

Sherri... He will be going to Budlong and they told us that they don't have before and after school programs. I wish they did because it would help us tremendously.

Small Condo Building Management Company Recommendations?

This group has steered me right before, so looking for more wisdom! Seeking a Condo/Property Management company that handles smaller buildings (6-12 units). Looking for strong knowledge of condo laws/governance, financial aspects/budgeting, solid vendors/bidding process, and most of all good communication with the owners & board. If you live in a condo building where there's a good management company, would appreciate the recommendation -- thanks for your help!

Is orange and white cat found in Lincoln Square yours?

I apologize for linking to a Facebook post (wish I had a still photo I could share), but there is an urgent need to find the owner of a cat who is close to being euthanized at Animal Care and Control. He was found near Lawrence, Western, and Lincoln. Please take a look and see if you recognize him or know of someone who is missing a similar-looking cat. Thanks!

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=774876965889468

  • There is an apartment building on the NE corner of Giddings and Hamilton that houses an orange tabby. It is very much an outdoor cat and may belong to someone in that building.

  • If anyone is interested in fostering, please call Tree House at 773-784-5488, extension 0 ASAP. They've named him Otis; his ID number is A114180 and he is in cage 568. Thanks so much!

Lost Orange Cat

Chester is an 8-yr old shorthair neutered male tabby. He is mostly orange with white markings and underbelly. He’s about 13 pounds. He is also microchipped so a vet, animal shelter or police station can scan him to verify that he is mine.
Please call or text me at 847-977-2344.

  • Much appreciated Lindsay!

  • Chester is still missing. Please keep an eye out for my beloved. Please check your backyard, basement and garage. Perhaps he snuck in and got trapped.

FOUND! Little Grey Girl Cat - found near Irving and Damen

This little cat has been hanging out in our neighborhood for a couple of days. We've asked around and no one seems to know who she is. We just took her to the vet and she has no chip. She's not a kitten, and has the teeth of an older cat. She's very gentle and friendly and in pretty good shape. So for now, she'll be on our comfy front porch chair, and we're of course feeding her. Can't bring her in as our boy cats are already upset by her presence. Does anyone recognize her? Found near N. Seeley and Irving Pk. Rd. A neighbor says he'll be putting up signs.

  • I know you probably know this, but try keeping her in the bathroom and the other cats can try playing with her under the door. Hope she finds a home!

P.S. I'm going to ask several questions about the contents and photographs as Craigslist has only produced scam artists to date. I won't let go of the property easily.

We need to take control of our neighborhood because the city surely won't or too slow . These CAPS programs have helped but with the cities limited resources , we have to take the matter into our own hands. We need to eradicate these thugs period. We can if we come together and fight it. Power in numbers. Need thoughts/suggestions from everyone:

    Start with:
    1. Hidden cameras in all alley ways and port if entries into the neighborhood. Catch these idiots in the act so they can be prosecuted. Especially their hangouts spots. I don't mind contributing. A few bucks from each household will easily fund this. "Smile you're on camera" Signs help deter some criminals....post them.
    2. Protect yourself, your family and citizens. Support the 2nd amendment and arm yourself. Let's hope we never have to use it but is rather have a law abiding citizen be armed than a thug. I know there are mixed reviews on this, but statistics prove it. It works.
    3. Landlords....do your due diligence and perform background checks before you rent out. It will save you a lot of headache... Check with CPD on which resources to use. A lot of the websites are garbage and cannot be trusted.
    4. Call 911 if you see something not right. Don't expect them to come right away but everyone has a cell phone. Record the incident if you can.
    5. If a street light is out, call 311. Try to keep dark areas lit.

These are a few to get started. Would like to discuss in future CAPS meetings. Enough is enough! Time to do something instead of waiting for someone else to do it!

  • Did your dad have her all 9 yrs? Vet records for all that time? Maybe someone could foster till you find permanent home.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN ACTUAL PICTURE OF THE DOG BUT A PRETTY CLOSE MATCH. His ears and tail are a little longer.

Hi neighbors,

Sorry I have posted a couple of over times but no luck yet. There is a little tan/light brown male terrier (about 10 pds or so) who has been hanging out in the alley at 2600 W. Catalpa. He showed up there on Thursday night, is scared, extremely skittish and won't stay still long enough for me to get a picture of him to post. So far he looks to be in good shape but I'm worried he is going to get hit by a car or attacked by one of the many wild critters in the area.
He does have a collar, I am not sure about tags because he won't let anyone get close to him. I've been checking IL Lost Dog and craigslist, also asking around the neighborhood but nothing yet. He also won't come near anyone, with or without a dog. I've tried both approaches and I've also tried to lure him with treats like hot dogs.
I've been leaving out food and water for him and saw him this morning so at least I know he is getting the food. If you could spread the word or ask around, I would appreciate it. I only hope he wasn't abandoned. :(

  • I'm hopeful, Imtired, since it seems from the photo and description (also of his independence) that he may be a Cairn. Cairns are so capable that my imaginary one even has a pilot's license! :) My primary concern in addition to cars is that he may eat a poisoned rodent.

  • Hi neighbor,

I read this recently and thought it offered some great tips for coralling a lost dog: http://nodogaboutit.wordpress.com/2014/06/01/loose-dog-dont-chase-stop-drop-and-lie-down/

I am in the area and would gladly help anytime. I also have a small terrier mix that could possibly help (my dog is more attracted to other pooches than humans!)

Excellent, now the rooftop owners are suing the city. This costs all of us money. When

are they going to quit bellyaching and produce a product people will buy...without being parasitic? Look at the restaurants all around the field. Do they need to have line of sight? Seems like they view it as a right.
All I know is that it is wasteful to sue the city - and the taxpayers are left footing the bill.

  • MikeyJoe Rocket scientist

I'm still trying to figure out on what grounds the rooftop owners can sue. If the Ricketts family accepts that 17% of $0 is zero when all the rooftops go bankrupt, then that's their prerogative. What's the penalty for violation of 6.6 by the Cubs and/or the City? It's not stipulated in the contract.

  • painhertz butterknife ninja

Arbitration. According to the contract all disputes will be solved via binding arbitration. The rooftops' threat to sue never existed. Most like it was easier to say than "we're going to bindingly arbitrate you".

Not sure if you have already taken care of this, but before doing anything, I would recommend backing up your files to an external source (Hard Drive, Thumb Drive etc) Also once you back your data up, you could try restoring your computer to factory defaults using the supplied restore disk or restore partition (if you are comfortable doing this) It's free :) If your computer is freezing and wont respond, its either a hardware issue or a software issue. If software, wipe and reinstall Windows and all of your software (this is what the repair people will do.) If still problematic then send back to original manufacturer for repair or to one of their certified repair centers.

The Chicago North Center Jobs Group is still on Facebook, currently at 65 members: https://www.facebook.com/groups/679871012048118/ I may remove "North Center" from its name, maybe replacing it with something representing the broader Ravenswood/Lincoln Avenue area.

Harassment at Damen and Lawrence.

Walking to the train going South on Damen on the East side if the street. Right after I passed through the crosswalk, a man at the bus stop yelled, "I HATE YOU!!!" Then he lunged at me and screamed, "I HATE YOUR UGLY QUEER A$S!!!"

I yelled that I'm calling the cops and he ran across Damen to get on the Lawrence bus going east.

A woman in her car rolled down her window and asked if I was ok. I continued to walk to the train.

Martial arts/Self defense

Hi,
Does anyone have any good, affordable recommendations for a place in the area to take martial art or self defense classes? Thank you!!

  • Bryan Duffy Apartment Locator & Problem Solver

Degerberg Academy of Mixed Martial Arts is great for beginners and all types. Gets you physically fit and mentally aware. More girls than guys in some of the classes, too. Classes 6 days a week at two locations to choose from. First class is free. After that its about $100-$120/month.

  • My son (6) has been taking classes at ATA in Ravenswood and I really like it there. It's not too "beefcakey" if you know what I mean, and they also keep running Groupons (There's one right now, look for Go2Karate) so you can try out a bunch of classes for next to nothing ($20 for 10 classes or $30 for 16 classes, uniform included).
