Lost Diamond Dove with clipped wings spotted in Winnemac Park.

Spotted pecking about one of the pathways. Allowed us to get close enough to touch it and then flew off into the prairie. I'm assuming it belongs to someone in the area.

  • Roland C Hansen In the neighborhood since 1993.

I'm sure I saw this very bird yesterday on the way home from work on my street (Wolcott) and it was just pecking about. I could probably have picked it up it was so tame. Probably gone now as there are many feral cats on this street. Anyway, was wondering what kind of bird it was.

Lost little brown terrier hanging out in my neighborhood - is this your dog?

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN ACTUAL PICTURE OF THE DOG BUT A PRETTY CLOSE MATCH. His ears and tail are a little longer.

Hi neighbors,

Sorry I have posted a couple of over times but no luck yet. There is a little tan/light brown male terrier (about 10 pds or so) who has been hanging out in the alley at 2600 W. Catalpa. He showed up there on Thursday night, is scared, extremely skittish and won't stay still long enough for me to get a picture of him to post. So far he looks to be in good shape but I'm worried he is going to get hit by a car or attacked by one of the many wild critters in the area.
He does have a collar, I am not sure about tags because he won't let anyone get close to him. I've been checking IL Lost Dog and craigslist, also asking around the neighborhood but nothing yet. He also won't come near anyone, with or without a dog. I've tried both approaches and I've also tried to lure him with treats like hot dogs.
I've been leaving out food and water for him and saw him this morning so at least I know he is getting the food. If you could spread the word or ask around, I would appreciate it. I only hope he wasn't abandoned. :(

  • Any follow up on the little dog?

  • Budlong Woods neighbor Chicago girl for life

Hi for those who were interested in a follow up he is doing great. No luck finding the owner at all so I am looking for a good home for the little guy. I would love to keep him but I have my own and not a lot of space. If you are interested and want more info please private message me.

Lost Orange Cat

Chester is an 8-yr old shorthair neutered male tabby. He is mostly orange with white markings and underbelly. He’s about 13 pounds. He is also microchipped so a vet, animal shelter or police station can scan him to verify that he is mine.
Please call or text me at 847-977-2344.

Flat Rate Car Service to Midway

Hi. Does anyone have any recommendations on an affordable flat-rate car service to Midway from Lincoln Square? I can't convince my wife to take the EL and I'm worried a cab might be crazy as we're going to the airport during rush hour...

  • I'm currently getting my chauffeur license and about to start at Uber and Empire Limo service. If you still need any service, I can help you out with a cheaper price.

  • Uber isn't a flat-rate to the airport any longer, and if its a busy time on the road they could surcharge it 2.25%, pretty much making it at or more expensive than a taxi.

Before posting in this thread I checked to see if the Ridgeback part of the name is commonly capitalized (as you know, SpamAlert is compulsive about correctness). Looking at photos now, I'm surprised how scary-looking they appear to an adult me when I hadn't seen that at all as a child. Anyway, decades on, I never did get my own dog - of any kind.

  • The food is great at Tre Kronor, but does anyone else receive terrible service too?? Every time I go it's unbearable, I don't even go anymore.

  • T.K

Apartment burglary

My friend's second-floor apartment near Damen/Lawrence unfortunately was burglarized during the day yesterday. Her laptop and jewelry were stolen, as well as a backpack to haul the stuff in, apparently. Thankfully her cute little cats were unharmed. The doors were bolted when she came home and no windows were broken, so they're not sure yet how the thief got in but they think he must have had a key somehow, possibly from/as a previous tenant.

That uncomfortable theory might raise questions of security and safety for all us renters out there. It also underscores the importance of having renter's insurance.

I hope karma bites that guy right in the a**.

  • Agree with b, renters insurance also covers your personal property in your car if you have a break in. Your car insurance doesn't.

  • Lance Uppercut crazy cat lady

    b, thanks for the commercial.

Chester is still missing

My orange tabby, Chester, is still missing. He's an 8-year old orange tabby with white markings (underbelly & paws). Last seen on August 9th near Hamilton & Argyle but after 3 weeks, he can be anywhere by now. I greatly appreciate all the calls\texts with possible sightings that I've received so far. Please continue to keep an eye out for him.

  • Robin in Rogers Park Owner of Cats in the City, LLC

I am just checking in - any Chester sightings?

  • No Chester but there have been sightings. One was sad. A neighbor found a dead orange tabby under her flowerbed. It wasn't Chester. Hopefully animal control scanned the cat before disposing of it. Thanks for asking.

Lost parakeet? Or some sort of bird

I found what appeared to be small parakeet or canary or some sort of domesticated bird at the Northwest corner of Irving and Leavitt this morning. I'm not a bird person, so not sure on the kind, but it was small and greenish/yellow. I moved it out of the street into the flower bed that is right there. Hopefully it'll stay there until found.

  • There were signs about a bird that matched that description around the Marshfield and Waveland intersection recently.

Quick note for you mom's and dad's, music lovers and just good ol' fashion neighbors;

Sad about summer coming to an end and all the fun (not too mention outdoor activities) that come with it and was wondering if anyone would be interested in starting some sort of discussion around a library themed evening event?

I realize beer will likely not be sold at the library (d@mn) but my Fall might be a lot cooler if I could slide into Winter knowing that there would be something community oriented to take my daughter too during the Winter (outside of Wiggle Worms, Swim Class, etc.).

1.) Has this ever been discussed? (Hosting something at the Library - )
2.) Who else feels the same?

Personally, the thought of not having one or two nights a week to "plan" for stuff in the face of bitter cold and dark skies would go a long way towards breaking "Chiberia".

(I apologize in advance if that's too many cold winter references, but hey, it's coming.)

Best!
