Rory Fiedler: Who's Backing Him?

Hm. So I saw that this guy filed to run against Pawar in the 47th. Is this the "Jeri's Diner Candidate" that some of the old Machine stalwarts were talking about digging up a few months ago, or just a random independent? Curious if anyone knows about his candidacy at all.

  • Julie-audubon mom, MBA, coffee nut, political junkie

A family values and church values campaign is good for Pawar. I'm just a little embarrassed for what kind of attention this race and our community is going to get because of this wink wink I'm one of you and he's not campaign. Pawar is too popular to lose but my disappointment is that he teem limited himself paving the way for a candidate like Fiedler.

  • Julie-audubon mom, MBA, coffee nut, political junkie

    Typo **term not teem limits.

It's hilarious that a candidate that doesn't live in our ward is seeking to return the ward back to residents. Did Pawar put this fool up?

Yard Waste, Trash Issues

A neighbor of ours is filling our trash cans entirely with leaves. We've asked (in person, nicely) for this to stop, but we weren't taken seriously. I'm not sure what we can do next. Would we be fined for having trash cans full of yard waste? Should we request an extra trash can for our neighbor? We don't have enough space for our trash now. Thanks, everyone!

  • Way to go Jackie!!! I wish you were my neighbor! I know how you feel. I've only been living in the Edgewater area since June and I'm amazed how few people take pride in where they live. Not only have I not seen any other resident clean up their leaves, there is consistently trash all over the place. (The other day I saw a young man throw a plastic bottle out of his car and kept going!) I spend quite a bit of time picking up after them.

  • Hi Jackie - We're so sorry for any confusion! Thanks so much for chiming in. My fiance and roommates are happy to work together, we just need to make sure we can find a place for any of our trash. Thanks for everyone's help -- we are happy to order another bin. Have a great holiday!

Residential winterization services?

I live in a condo that has cold wind drafts coming from the windows and baseboards. Was curious whether anyone knew of a company that would provide winterization services to address these issues? I looked online and could only find plumbing/pipe winterization services. Appreciate any referrals!

Harver Health Insurance Counter Fraud Group: Zetia Lowers Risk of Heart Attack, Stroke

After almost 10 years, the results of a long-awaited clinical study has proven that cholesterol drug Zetia of Merck & Co is capable of reducing heart attack risk when it is used together with statin.

The study was conducted worldwide on 18,000 heart patients using Zetia, an ezetimibe, plus simvastation as compared to treatments with only simvastatin. LDL cholesterols levels, which is singled out as a critical cause in the development of a cardiovascular problem, decreased by 54 on average.

A lot of police activity on Leavitt and Bryon

Does anyone know why there was so much police activity on Bryon and Leavitt tonight? 11/24 around 6:30.

  • Actually I meant Bryon and Hamilton

  • Jason NC north center resident

NBC was shooting a television drama on that block.

  • Frank H 71 Prodigal Northcenter native, back after 10yrs away

That would explain why there were four unmarked white passenger vans idling at Byron & Hoyne at 5:30PM. I thought a dignitary was stopping by for a surprise visit.

Where are your favorite places to look for rental housing?

I have used Apartment People in the past, and have been looking at Craigslist, Domu, and Chicago Apartment Finders. Do you have a favorite property management company in the neighborhood? Thanks!

  • We live in a two flat on the first floor and rent out the second floor. We never advertise with any apartment service because they charge too much. We always advertise on Craigslist and I strongly suggest using that service because there is no middleman. We have never had a problem getting tenants and tenants are happy. Because we live on the first floor, my husband fixes anything that is broken right away, and if there is a problem we are instantly available.

  • zippy8 mostly happy resident

How do I say this without offending those who live in CHA housing... People who are stuck using CHA include seniors on Social Security with mostly exhausted savings or the physically or medically disabled. Nothing "wrong" with them. I knew a mathematician who was a holocaust survivor and he lived in public housing for years. He was finally able to move when he received his survivor's payment.

I'll consider renting to tenants through public housing but just screen them very well.
