8 shot across Chicago in less than seven hours

Police say four to five people were struck while standing at a bus stop near 103rd Street and Michigan Avenue.

About 7:30 p.m., the man was on a porch in the 1700 block of West 71st Street when someone ran out from a gangway and opened fire, striking the man, police said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, police said.

The man was shot in the knee in the 1800 block of South Central Park Avenue, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

The teen was standing on a porch in the 7300 block of South Maplewood Avenue when suspects ran out from across the street and started shooting, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in good condition.

About 5:50 p.m. a 29-year-old man was shot in the ankle in the 7500 block of South Yale Avenue in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood. The man was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center in good condition, police said.

The man was on his porch in the 6700 block of South Oakley Avenue when someone walked out from the gangway and opened fire, striking the man under his right arm, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in “stable” condition, police said.

The man was in a vehicle in the 3600 block of West Armitage Avenue when another vehicle drove up and someone from inside opened fire, police said. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition, police said.

The man was shot in the ankle and back in the 1600 block of West 59th Street, police said. He made his way to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in “stable” condition, police said.

An 18-year-old man walked into Roseland Community Hospital with a gunshot wound to his wrist and told police he was shot in the 200 block of West 112th Street. He was listed in good condition.

Vehicle hits Roseland bus stop, 5 injured

About 8:40 p.m., a vehicle traveling north on Michigan Avenue near 103rd Street struck another vehicle, said Larry Langford, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman. The first vehicle then hit the bus stop.

The initiative was established in 2012 in answer to a series of public conversations across Chicago about the increasing problem of violence in our community and schools. Originally established as a component of the Governor's Neighborhood Recovery Initiative, the Consortium now serves as a point of contact for anyone interested in stemming community and school violence. In just a few years, the Consortium has gained community support from its comprehensive research and innovative program support.

The Consortium’s efforts are directed at providing:

Information and materials concerning the prevention of violence so that problems can be better identified and solutions can be developed;

Program development and implementation expertise and technical support to schools, law enforcement agencies, and community organizations so that programs have excellent chances of success;

Research and evaluation of school violence prevention programs so that schools and communities are better able to address their specific needs in effective action.

The Consortium's vision is that "every student will live in a community and attend a school that is safe and secure, one that is free of fear and conducive to learning."
