8 unmarked cop cars 2 marked parked in the middle of 3200 LeMoyne

I'm looking out my top floor window and there are 12 cop cars mostly unmarked parked in the middle of Lemoyne. Lights out no one around. They blocked in everyone parked on the street and traffic is backing up. One marked car has both doors wide open. No cops around. It's so bizarre. Anyone know what's going on??

  • I live on the same block, and a neighbor told us that it was a police raid on a two flat. I'm guessing it was a drug thing but would like to know if anyone has more information.

  • CPL949 HP Resident

Did anybody see the Digest this morning that there was a cocaine bust on that day? To the OP, was that approximately the time?

Please, people, if you are posting anything that is time sensitive, please remember the 4 w"s:

Healthcare

Hi, I am a student journalist.

I'm writing a story on healthcare, specifically on how the Affordable Care Act has made the system more efficient or less efficient (for you). Obama has tried to streamline medical documents using technology, such as electronic health records.

So, I'm looking specifically for a patient who HAS had difficulty or has NOT had difficulty with needing medical documents transferred from one hospital (for many reasons) to another hospital.

It this applies to you, I'd love to speak with you and share your story.

If your interview is used, it would be published on a Chicago news website.

Please contact me for more information.

Thank you!

Pics of a Beautiful Hawk In Humboldt Park Today

I think a person noted earlier on EB that this is a Coopers Hawk. It was absolutely magnificent to see this bird fly around the north side of the park. It eventually perched in a tree right next to the Field House. Sorry the pics are phone quality, wish I could have zoomed in with a good lens.

26th ward or 1st ward- confused

Friday evening a middle aged white dude came to my door on Haddon advertising for a ward 1 candidate. He told me I was in ward 1. I was skeptical but listened to him talk about his candidate. I looked it up and I am in fact in 26th ward. What's up with that? Is this guy just an idiot? Or pulling some sort of scam... Not sure what to think. Anyone else talk with him? Here is the 26th ward map.

Rat Problems

Has anyone had any success eliminating rats from their yard? Im pretty sure they are nesting near our garden and it's getting a little out of control. I know it's a citywide issue, but I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has some successful home remedies, traps, or baits that worked for them.

Rats seem to be a 'heavy topic'...at least they were for me last year when I felt I was 'damned' with them chewing thru 3 layers of bricks and being in my basement, and then in my walls. The 'BOR's (BIG OLD RATS) made a great attempt at ruining my life..and my sleep.

At this point, it seems we can only hope for the best. I did have one small concern about one woman who stood up and commented, telling the audience that she is a social worker and she sees so many single mothers that can't afford to live in the area anymore. I hope the general public understand that this will be strictly for veterans and has nothing to do, for the most part, with single mothers or affordable housing for the general public. This is for veterans, which is admirable. My understanding is it will NOT be available for the general public to apply for housing. I hope the general public will understand this. I took notes at the meeting and recorded it, and correct me if I'm wrong, but this is supposed to be 100 percent veteran housing.

Humboldtwriter's attendance at the meeting has not been confirmed or denied. But go ahead and live in a state of assumption. It is easier to bully than think. Other points of view exist, the Humboldt Park community is concerned with this proposed development and how it is getting rammed down our throats. Some of us are neighbors. We should do better and come up with solutions that work for everyone in the community. But we will come up with solutions peacefully and respectfully. And we are willing to teach. And we are registered to vote and will vote Humboldt Park into a glorious future.

We had a huge rat problem on our block. Some city owned vacant lots had 120 rat hols on ONE lot. Our problems were: homeowners not picking up dog fecese, garbage over flowing garbage cans (S&S not raking and owners not keeping trash in cans), urban gardeners mixing barley malt and wood chips (that attract rats), the city not cutting their vacant lots which harbored rats in the heavy growth.

We were able to get the population under control but RAT PATROL was on the block for 5 months twice a week, 5 months once a week. It was a real drag and some neighbors got angry when they were asked to clean out their yards, get rid of some pets, clean out some garages, dig out dirt where rats had dug huge bunkers.

Scenstech is a Rat Birthcontrol company. The CTA will do a pilot program soon on this BIRTH CONTROL. Hopefully S&S will pick it up soon too. I hope that DOE and Building Departmenet will also make requirements to help curb this RAT problem that we have.

    Interesting...we are #1 AGAIN...in a disgusting category.

Like many have said, go with Guaranteed Rate, or some other type of broker, unless you really really like your local bank. Under the new financial regulations, brokers are REQUIRED to disclose the yield spread premium they get from banks on loan products and beyond the mortgage brokerage fee that money goes to you at closing now, under this law. With a regular retail bank this is not the case. I purchased my home through GRate last year and got a 4.25% interest rate mortgage and about ~$7,000 back when Chase bought my loan from GRate if I recall correctly.

Also, GRate seems to be really well respected, and sellers will take into account that you've been pre-approved with GRate, who is known for being able to close quickly. A lot of banks, like Wells Fargo, Bank of America, tend to ruin deals, so don't go with them!

    My broker at GRate was
    Matt O'Brien
    Vice President of Mortgage Lending

    o: 773-250-5919 - m: 773-263-8622 - f: 773-516-6181

  • Colin Bird Resident of Hermosa

One other quick note, as I like to share everything I've learned! A lot of those first time buyer credits with retail banks are saddled with higher interest rates... I think Wintrust was going to give me a $5,000 forgivable loan but only at 5.0% interest. When you go with a broker you get the better interest rate and some of that YSP... of course things could have changed since I bought 11 months ago.

I would like to introduce my company's tub and tile restoration services to your Condo Association. We use state of the art equipment and highly trained workers to restore tub and tiles - make them look, function as new for less than 25% of the cost of even low end new tubs and tiles.

Our service is perfect for Condo owners looking to rent or sell - as they need new looking tubs and tiles, new pain jobs, jew appliances etc.

Could I make a presentation to your Condo Association?

Next, don't assume anything for me. I don't care what gets built as long as it is according to code(ie no zoning changes) and my tax dollars don't have to pay for it.

The Maldonado take on the Vet Housing

Diversity, generosity is at the heart of proposed Vet housing

  • EastHumboldtNeighbor resident since 07

Is that $42.6 million project to support 49 units? So $800,000+ per unit. If that is, they should see if they could probably construct within current zoning rather than making a fortune in single unit housing.

  • Not an open bidding project. Overpriced development and friends of the Alderman construction company. You can buy land and build 109 single family homes for that price. Ridiculous. And tax exempt which means that all of the taxpaying homeowners will have an increased property tax burden.

Why build a veterans home near a NON-veterans hospital?

Why build a veterans home 3 blocks from an existing veterans home(at Franklin and Sacramento)?

Why make it part of the contract that you don't have to be a veteran to live here?

Why say it is 4 stories when clearly from the architects renderings it is 5 stories?

Why would it cost $400,000 /unit for basic housing?

Why build it on the property of Norwegian American Hospital (which has been on that site for over 100 years) and then name it something Puerto Rican?

Why are these things always built by the same 3 developers, and always use the same lawyers to pass the "zoning change"?

Why don't the alderman in other wards build subsidized housing for their veterans?

This has become the tried-and-true formulaic way that elected officials in Humboldt and Logan can shift millions of tax dollars to their friends and family.

BTW, as Johnathon Gruber was quoted last week, the ..."voters are too stupid to know the difference". That's why Chicago politicians steal from the taxpayer, not banks and individuals.
