Spaniel Mix Looking for a New Home

Spaniel mix girl. 2 years old and very friendly needs a new home our new place doesn't accept pets. She has a bed, metal crate, leash toys. If anyone is interested in taking her in let me know. We adopted her 2 years ago as a pup and does have a chip inside her so I would have to let the shelter know new owners information. Thank you!

Bp resident. I am guessing you are single and childless? I didn't post the dog,but jeez you don't live in reality. People in your world I'm guessing either live in condos or are homeless. There's a bunch of us in between. And if there are resources for someone in a situation where they couldn't keep up their pet wouldn't it be more constructive to talk about that instead of telling people they shouldn't have pets. I wouldn't tell you you'd be a bad parent and shouldn't have kids. (Even though I may think it) So back off.

  • Plenty of apartments take dogs. You don't have to be privileged or rich to find one, you just have to be committed to your pet. I think it's great that you want to give this person the benefit of the doubt without knowing the details of her story. I give the dog the benefit of the doubt, because I like dogs more than most people.

Panera Bread at Ashland and School Falls Through; Target Development Not Happening

According to the latest flyers from Cushman &Wakefield, Panera Bread is no longer coming to Ashland and School and they are re-releasing it to market. Vitamin Shoppe is a go, and Target is no longer pictured on the map.

http://southportcorridorchicago.blogspot.com/2014/07/panera-bread-at-ashland-and-school.html

  • d3 NOH

Not surprised given the uncertainty of the area post-road-diet.

  • That's interesting. Anyone know what happened? I know there's an ongoing dispute with the townhomes on the east side of the development.

  • L

We know that Target pulled out a few months ago. The speculation is that after the data breach and other difficulties they can't afford to open new stores right now. That may mean we get a WalMart. They've looked at that property in the past.

Regarding Panera, I don't know why they can't find a home on the west side of Lake View. I don't love the idea of a chain, but we do need some lunch places. And, I don't get Vitamin Shoppe's existence at all.

The Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the launch of their pop-up public gathering space and art piece, People Spots, available now through October at 2863 and 2914 N. Clark St. Two sites on the east and west side of the street host two unique People Spots, each containing fixed seating areas of various styles, bistro tables, chairs and strong public WiFi signals. For more information on the People Spots and campaign in general, please visit www.LakeviewEast.com.

In 2013, the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce and Special Service Area #8 (SSA #8) launched the Clark Street Task Force, a community-driven strategic planning process to develop concepts for the improvement of the Clark Street Corridor. Residents, business owners, and property owners were surveyed with a top priority being an increase in the amount of nearby pedestrian gathering space through People Spots. Participants viewed People Spots as a way of activating a welcoming public space in the corridor without the attendant costs and disruption of traditional construction.

The two unique, 6 ft. x 40 ft. installations are designed separately by Katherine Darnstadt of Latent Design and Duane Sohl of Sohl. Architect with Gary DeStefano of DCR Builders, LLC. Both were chosen from a request-for-proposal process, with each satisfying the desire for increased public gathering and green space. The green space for each People Spot is installed by Patch Landscaping. Patch also creates and maintains the hanging baskets and planters throughout Lakeview East as well as the “urban oasis garden” located within the annual Lakeview East Festival of the Arts (September 13 and 14, 2014).

Though a comprehensive rethinking of the corridor is well underway based on feedback from the strategic planning process, the People Spots provide immediate place-making benefits for those who live, work, dine, and shop nearby.

Dr. Olivia Forys

I got a letter saying that my GP, Dr. Olivia Forys, is leaving her practice with Rush. I'd really like to keep her as my doctor, but the letter didn't say where she is going (if anywhere in Chicago). If anyone has information, it would be much appreciated. I certainly hope she's doing OK.

Homemade Pizza Company closed all locations

RIP #HomemadePizzaCo. Looks like all locations are closed, and their Facebook and Twitter are deleted. This is an L3 building so we'll see what happens next.

http://southportcorridorchicago.blogspot.com/2014/05/rip-homemade-pizza-company.html

  • Matt 10-year Lakeview resident

They must have left some food behind because the Southport storefront is now littered with dead flies...such an eyesore, creeps me out each time I walk past it on my commute. Shocked that the chain closed, they must have overexpanded--this location had a line of customers every evening.

  • Personally, I never understood the business model. I bought pizzas from them twice and stopped after I realized I could get a pizza made, and delivered to me for the same price as this place. Did I mention that the delivered pizza was already made? I didn't have to cook it myself.

I found them to be overpriced for what they were offering.

Guy with baseball cap crouches down by the fence door to 3 unit condo facing Janssen, adjacent to northside of alley. Tries to open gate. It doesn't open easily so he tries to pop it open by leaning his body into it.
I yell "hey." He looks around then resumes attempt. I yell "Get out of here." He sees me and then takes off running westbound down alley. Called 911, operator was great, and they put some cops on it. Never saw where the Caucasian male went.

The brazen, daylight event during the midst of commuters going back and forth from garages was pretty remarkable. Keep your heads up!

  • On Monday, July 15 at 10 a.m. I observed two males of a similar description on bikes southbound in the alley between Southport and Greenview, north of Irving Park, and then on Cuyler. Their demeanor was off. They were riding slowly and looking at back gates and into back yards. One looked on one side of the alley and the other looked at the other side. I saw their faces too fast to notice more. Police responded, but did not find the riders.

  • Jim, my partner saw these guys on the 700 block of Melrose at around 9:30pm the same day you saw them. She said they were acting strangely and looked like they were casing houses. I told her to call the cops next time.

  • jim

The guys I saw did seem a bit "out of it" and weren't exactly subtle in their approach. Good idea to always call the police. Agreed.

LV2 Parking For Wrigley Concerts

And we're about to hit another round of concerts this weekend at Wrigley and yet again expect to have our aldermen do nothing about parking enforcement for the LV2 area yet again.

Please notify your alderman if you see any violations:

Capelman - Info@james46.org 773-878-4646 https://twitter.com/JamesCappleman

Tunney (who doesn't really care for many reasons) ward44@cityofchicago.org 773.525.6034 https://twitter.com/AldTomTunney

Let them know that ordinance O2013-846 needs to be passed!

  • MayorOf47 W. Lakeview/Roscoe Village

And the Cubs themselves of course.
    Game day hotline: 866-4-CPD-TOW

Those provisions involve, amongst other things, the LV2 parking program.

Although the ordinance you cite above did not pass City Council, the intent of the ordinance was incorporated into the new night baseball game ordinance. Therefore, LV2 is in force during concert events at Wrigley Field attracting more than 12,500 visitors. You may also notice that this year that the LV2 double yellow signs that list the game dates around the LV2 neighborhoods also read 'Concerts TBD.'

LV2 should be enforced during the concerts on July 18th and 19th this year. No further legislation is necessary to make this happen.

Thanks Jimbo. I've read it in depth and have communicated with Pawar's office my frustration that the Cubs do nothing to enforce it for the last few years - and Schulter before that.
The signs are there, they're just ignored by parking enforcement and the Cubs as they were last year when they first included the concert wording.

I find it frustrating that on the Cubs community newsletter they state:
"Parking Restrictions for the Show Days:
Irving Park Road from Ashland Avenue to Clark Street
Clark Street from Irving Park Road to Roscoe Street
Racine Avenue (East Side) from Patterson Avenue to Addison Street
Addison Street from Ashland Avenue to Clark Street "
It neglects to state that ANY neighborhood parking restrictions are in effect for those dates.

Regardless, contact your alderman and the Cubs hotline if you have any problems in your neighborhood.

"broken computer" phone scam ?

I have been receiving calls on my land line from people claiming to be from "Windows" and "Microsoft", a very heavy Indian accent. I was told there is a problem with my computer, told the caller that I did not have one, and she insisted that there were something wrong with my computer. I hung up. I have the feeling this is a scam that are tricking people into giving up personal information or something of the like. Last evening around 8:45pm, a man "Jacob" called he said "your computer is broken and it is breaking the internet" This time I spoke in polish and he hung up. Has anyone else been receiving similar calls?

  • icepackmac NorthCenter, St.Ben's,Lakeview & Lincoln Square Li

    obviously too many people "fall" for it & so many are intimidated and bullied into it I agree with Verena plus the callers are so well "trained" and/or are sociopathic & listen to their "marks" voice/tone;

  • Ann in Lakeview 30+ years in Lakeview

Thank you all for your comments. I am one senior who will not fall victim to those scammers. I received another one of those phone calls from a "Joe" who also had a heavy accent. I told the scammer to "go jump in a lake" and he hung up.

Wanted: Flat Screen TV Packaging

My 24” flat screen TV stopped working and the manufacturer has asked me to mail it back to them. I don’t have the original packaging. Does anyone happen to have packaging for a twenty-something inch TV that they want to get rid of? I’d be happy to pick-up.

I checked on Freecycle, but couldn't find anything.

Thank you!

  • I worked at the ups store for years. Make sure you leave 2 - 3 inches of space between the TV and box for peanuts. Bubble wrap it nice and tight. 2-3 layers. Would charge about $25 to pack . good luck!

  • Mike Spikes Rogers Park Newbie

Glad to help Jane -- but I'd warn you, check out the folks at the UPS store. My office shipped a bunch of stuff to me VIA UPS freight and a few of the items that I did not pack myself wound up arriving broken. Insure your shipment, and if you've got a feeling that the store associates are kind of lackadaisical in their manner, go elsewhere.
