Our client is seeking a 3BR/2BA+ in an elevator building in the Lakeview/Lincoln Park area. We have exhausted our search on the MLS and are looking for owners considering selling.

Prefers updated; concrete between floors; pets (cats) allowed; quiet neighbors; HOA fees lower than $1000 if possible.

If you or someone you know has a condo similar to this they would consider selling please let me know..

Summer Options for 6 year old child

I'm looking for daycare options for my 6 year old for this upcoming summer. I work from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. The Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club doesn't start until 8 am but I have to be at work by 8 am. I need to pick up as late as 6 pm on some days. Any suggestions/recommendations for high quality group childcare for a 6 year old in the area? Looking for entire summer, not just short summer camps. Thank you!

  • A couple options we've found as I look for the same for our 5 y/o: the Lakeview Y has a summer program; and St. Luke's Academy on Belmont at Ashland runs "camps" every week and offers early drop off and later pick up options. We did St Luke's last summer and liked it b/c each week had a different theme (science, city of Chicago, nature, etc) and they did field trips on Fridays and had a sprinkler for the kids to play in on hot days.

  • Sorry, I just saw StL's hours are 8-6, so not quite early enough for you.

Story on parenting and transgendered children

I'm a graduate student and reporter for the Medill News Service at Northwestern University. It is possible to be on camera anonymously, although not preferred. The piece will be published on our website: http://news.medill.northwestern.edu/chicago/ and CanTV (the public access channel) for a day. If you are interested or know someone who may be a good contact, I would very much appreciate a message back.

Specialty Video Closing

I was told today that the video store on Broadway, between Melrose and Belmont will be closing in the Spring. The reason was a rent increase.

  • oops, I was thinking two blocks north. That block has turned into a showroom of empty shops (by the Closet & the old Borderline Records). I actually use Specialty a lot. They have a fantastic range of foreign, documentary and independent movies. You can find a lot by just browsing that can pique your interest. Not o mention their series of tv and cable shows if you want to binge.

In the last 6 months the space went from Bonsai to 18th Amendment and now has signs Coming Soon Big Jim's. I assume from the people of Little Jim's, anyone know any word on the space.

Police ride-alongs?

I've heard that Chicago police officers and detectives will do ride-alongs for civilians but I cannot find any information on the City of Chicago police department website. Has anyone ever done this or know who to contact? Thank you!

Aluminum Coating Cost for Flat Roof

I have a 2007 new build (the standard issue brick rectangle) with a flat roof (that has what I believe is the original aluminum coating on the roof). I have started getting estimates for the application of a new layer of aluminum coating on the roof and the estimates ($1200+) strike me as a bit high for what I understand the service to entail (broom clean and application of one coat of aluminum coating). I would greatly appreciate thoughts on (1) how much this service should cost (Angie's List is not helping me here) and/or (2) whether most people just do this themselves. Thanks in advance!

  • Any thoughts on the above? Thanks again in advance!

  • Marcin Talaga Realtor/General Contractor

You can factor it'll cost around $.60-$.80 per/sf. If your roof is 1500 square feet for example then it'll cost somewhere around $900-$1200 if you hire a pro. You can do it yourself. Home depot sells a good one called Henry Fibre Aluminum Roof coating. You can probably get it done for half the cost, just be careful up on the roof of course.

Does anyone know the status of the unfinished construction site at that location? There was supposed to have been a hearing at City Council in regard to it.

I've reviewed the published agendas of both the Zoning and the Housing committees from August 2014 through January 2015 and could find no mention of this address for a zoning change or any other city council or committee action. Because of the election, there will not be any city council meetings or committee meetings in February. There is a Housing committee hearing scheduled for 3/11 10am and two Zoning Committee Hearings next month: 3/12 and 3/17 , both staring at 10am in Council Chambers, before the 10am 3/18 City Council meeting. No agendas for these committee meetings are available yet. Shortly after 3/1 some of the agendas for the March meetings should start to appear. You can check the web site:
https://chicago.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx for any additional committee meeting dates, changes in times/locations, and the meeting agendas. The current or new alderman for the ward may know more about the property before any hearing action. The press coverage about the property are old stories at:

Your Alderman Deceiving Who...Deceiving You.

Below is a photo of one of Cappleman's mailers.

He is quoting a crime trend from a full 10 YEARS before he was elected in 2011.

See it for yourself it it curious.

This is also disingenuous and sneaky in my opinion.

What happened to the proposed Peet's at Aldine & Broadway?

There was about hiring at that location several weeks. Now there's a For Rent sign on that corner. Did the lease fall through? I'm disappointed that the corner has been empty for so long. That Caribou store was so cute and always busy.

  • That Caribou seemed to have steady traffic. In hindsight, maybe that was an illusion on how profitable this location was.
Is this the only Caribou that Peets didn't re-open around Lakeview?

If a big national corporation doesn't have the business model to re-open there, it makes me wonder who will?

Does anyone else think Peet's decision will scare away other potential tenants?

  • L

They didn't reopen the one on the west side of Lake View across from Whole Foods either.

Traffic light coming to Clark and School?

I drove through N. Clark and W. School tonight.

There's a new traffic light and pole there. It's not operating.

Anyone have any additional details?

I've driven through this intersection countless times. I noticed drivers don't always stop and go and yield in the correct order with other drivers who have been waiting. I figured it had something to do with the two streets not intersecting at a perfect 90 degrees. Somehow it is distracts or confuses us.

But, I never considered it enough of an issue to install a light.

Have there been a high number of accidents there? Or is this something to help with Wrigley Field traffic?

  • @chp

I wish i could thank you a thousand times for that

    Spot on!

Id be happy with just a left turn lane in most places!

  • Eh, I'll take a traffic light over a stop sign. People (motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians) tend to not know how to behave themselves at stop signs.

Doggie Daycare Help

I have a few shifts from 8am-8pm coming up, and won't get a long enough break to take my dog out. I am looking for a daycare facility that has pickup and drop off areas around those times. So far no luck. Any tips? In Lakeview but will travel 5 mile radius.

I would recommend Stay or the Pooch Hotel. I've used Pooch on Clybourn and they have easy pick up and drop off.

While I haven't used Stay, I have to put in a plug for Found, which is the adjacent non-profit training center and shelter created by the folks at Stay. (Found also offers specialized daycare. From their site: "Found Chicago Provides daycare that integrates the fun and enrichment that a traditional daycare provides, but modified to accommodate the special behavioral needs of the participants. Dogs who are not dog social, exhibit cautious, anxious and reactive behaviors can come to Found Chicago for daycare.") My puppy completed Found's two-week boot camp in December and last week we finished their Agility Class...it was the single best investment I could have made in my dog. She and I both adore the staff, their training philosophy and the organization as a whole. They're fantastic, and I know that when I have to board her, she'll go to Stay.

I totally agree - this is a hidden gem. I'm selective about my pizza and this place is a winner. Great food, wonderful staff and an added bonus - the owner is very customer service oriented.

Highly recommended (but)..........no parking on busy Belmont so I rarely go there :-(
