Old news?!?!

Has anybody else noticed that EveryBlock detectors are picking up articles from 2012-2013???

  • Yes. The recap email they send out had an article about the fire at the field house at Indian Boundary park. I think was in 2012.

  • L

Were they all articles that came from the Booster's FB feed?

    Jennifer, yep!

I've reviewed the published agendas of both the Zoning and the Housing committees from August 2014 through January 2015 and could find no mention of this address for a zoning change or any other city council or committee action. Because of the election, there will not be any city council meetings or committee meetings in February. There is a Housing committee hearing scheduled for 3/11 10am and two Zoning Committee Hearings next month: 3/12 and 3/17 , both staring at 10am in Council Chambers, before the 10am 3/18 City Council meeting. No agendas for these committee meetings are available yet. Shortly after 3/1 some of the agendas for the March meetings should start to appear. You can check the web site:
https://chicago.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx for any additional committee meeting dates, changes in times/locations, and the meeting agendas. The current or new alderman for the ward may know more about the property before any hearing action. The press coverage about the property are old stories at:
    May 21,2012 story:http://chicago.curbed.com/archives/2012/05/21/stalled-condo-building-to-serve-as-skeleton-for-luxury-rentals.php

    So sad but oh well.

  • Simple, pay the rent or get the F out. By not paying the rent, the bar owners stole money from the property owner, like a common thief! So long, bring in somebody new.

FedEx Southport Out, New Retail Development in at 3524 N. Southport Avenue

FedEx Office, currently located at 3524 N. Southport will be closing to make room for a new 12,000 square foot "Marquee Retail Space" on Southport Avenue. The current building will have a new facade like we currently see at the future Lou & Grey and Corridor Brewery building. The space will either be split in half with 6,000 square feet of retail, or combined as one giant 12,000 square foot retail space (much like Anthropologie, including a double-barrel truss roof).

Summer Options for 6 year old child

I'm looking for daycare options for my 6 year old for this upcoming summer. I work from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. The Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club doesn't start until 8 am but I have to be at work by 8 am. I need to pick up as late as 6 pm on some days. Any suggestions/recommendations for high quality group childcare for a 6 year old in the area? Looking for entire summer, not just short summer camps. Thank you!

  • mike Return Chicagoan circa 1996

Hamlin park offers day camps during the summer that I have sent my boys to. It's not too expensive and you need to sign up online. It is offered through the Chicago park district.

I am currently working on a story about the successes and challenges of being the parent of a transgendered child. I am looking for a parent (and if possible their transgendered child) who would be willing to speak with me about their life experiences. The story would be composed of a 400-600 word article and a 2 minute video piece. So ideally, I would like to have you speak quickly to me on camera. It is possible to be on camera anonymously, although not preferred. The piece will be published on our website: http://news.medill.northwestern.edu/chicago/ and CanTV (the public access channel) for a day. If you are interested or know someone who may be a good contact, I would very much appreciate a message back.
Thanks, Julie

  • Hi Julie,
While I don't have a child, I just wanted to mention that generally the correct term is considered "transgender" instead of "transgendered."

    Good luck with your research!

Found a Ring

Yesterday I found a ring in the middle of the street on the intersection of Clark & Diversy. This seems to be a wedding ring & would like to return it to its rightful owner. I know this is a long shot, but I figured I'd try anyway. I'm not going to post a pic of it but if you recently lost your ring and believe it is yours please send me a private message with a detailed description or better yet a pic. Feel free to forward this.

Aluminum Coating Cost for Flat Roof

I have a 2007 new build (the standard issue brick rectangle) with a flat roof (that has what I believe is the original aluminum coating on the roof). I have started getting estimates for the application of a new layer of aluminum coating on the roof and the estimates ($1200+) strike me as a bit high for what I understand the service to entail (broom clean and application of one coat of aluminum coating). I would greatly appreciate thoughts on (1) how much this service should cost (Angie's List is not helping me here) and/or (2) whether most people just do this themselves. Thanks in advance!

  • Any thoughts on the above? Thanks again in advance!

  • Marcin Talaga Realtor/General Contractor

You can factor it'll cost around $.60-$.80 per/sf. If your roof is 1500 square feet for example then it'll cost somewhere around $900-$1200 if you hire a pro. You can do it yourself. Home depot sells a good one called Henry Fibre Aluminum Roof coating. You can probably get it done for half the cost, just be careful up on the roof of course.

what I meant by "now open" is that the landlord appeared to be keeping the space un-rented - most likely during the bankruptcy hearings to see if they would be getting any of the unpaid rent. My guess is the rent was done as a lump sum payable in monthly installments - that can help to get your money owed when a commercial tenant leaves - but in these kinds of situations smaller debts go unpaid and by the sounds of it most of their debt went unpaid.

Looks like Bake 425 isn't coming to Andersonville either - so basically they bought some intellectual property and kept any would be competitors from purchasing what was left of the company.... ?
