  • I guess Ervin considers drug dealers to be successful entrepreneurs.

Technically, he might be correct. The drug business is run like any other business. Drug lords know as much about business as any fortune 500 CEO.

I just wish he'd clean up our filthy ward and remove all of the open-air drug markets and public drinking throughout our major thorough ways. I took photos of the trash, over grown weeds, trash in the parks and tall grass along Madison and some side streets. I didn't see a way for me to upload them on this post and I don't want to start another one.

We all need to talk to neighbors on each side of us, above, beneath and to the rear. And tell everyone we know in the 28th ward NOT TO VOTE for Jason Ervin!!! When re-election time comes around, I'll be sure to early vote!!

The boys ran towards the 3300 block W on Carroll. Be on the look out for these (3) boys. The smaller one had a maroon jacket, khaki pants and new white low-cut gym shoes. The second one had on a light gray hoodie jacket with black pants. The third one had on a green hoodie jacket with brown pants. They were cleanly dressed. One of them was so small with brown and blonde short dreads, he fit through the separation of the fence. The other (2) are slender and taller.

Wow, it's great you got photos of those three. They are the same kids that attempted to break in our house on the 3400 Block of Fulton on Monday, October 20th at approximately 6:30pm. They tried all sides of the house, all doors and multiple windows have pry marks on them. Lucky for us, they are inexperienced so they didn't get in. They also attempted to get into our neighbors house on the E side. Our neighbor lady on the W side actually shooed them off but didn't realize that they were trying to pry open doors when she did. They said that they claimed they were there to rake the leaves (total BS- besides in my world you don't pay people to clean up leaves). We did file a police report even though they didn't actually make it into the house to steal anything.

  • Ope new

I hope the police soon arrest these boys. Someone is going to get hurt eventually.

To Flee, or Not to Flee

Consideration for the quality of housing, transportation, recreation, education, affordability, security and more go into selecting a place to live and raise your family.

Security is probably the highest concern of any parent. Fear of one's environment is the demon that has always crippled our spiritual growth and peace of mind. We can always run and flee in search of that fundamental right to be free of the ugly bully who might live next door or down the street, or stands insidiously on the corner. Participating and getting involved with your neighbors and organizations is one method of giving your community what you want to receive from your community.

15th and Christiana

hello everyone,i am wondering if anyone can give me some insight about the area as me and my three kids are moving that way soon.Any info good or bad will be greatly appriciated.Thank you very much.

  • A friend recently moved from that block because she said there was an increase in gang activity. I don't mean to add any unnecessary fear but just wanted you to know. Yes there is crime everywhere. I would suggest looking on Chicago Tribune's crime map or another site to see the type of activity that happens around there.

  • Thank u,I recently been doing research and found its the highest crime rate,I acted on impulse and do to low income it was affordable but now I'm having second thoughts,I just needed to move out my in laws place.

Progressives, parents react to Karen Lewis decision not to run for mayor

WBEZ interviewed people regarding their thoughts on Karen Lewis' decision not to enter the Mayoral race.

Here's the link.https://soundcloud.com/wbez/progressives-parents-react-to-karen-lewis-decision-not-to-run-for-mayor#c=0&t=0:00

My comments come in at about 3:15.

  • Amara who?

  • robin in WRP misanthrope

Valerie - that was not my intention! I have a tremendous amount of respect for Karen Lewis; I heard her speak last year in Evanston and was blown away! I am saddened by her illness, and sending lots of positive, healing energy her way. That said, I never took her seriously as a candidate for mayor

Antonio - Amara Enyia is running for mayor. I believe that she is the best candidate for mayor since Harold Washington

This council has a great deal of power under Senate Bill 51. The problem is companies almost never show up. They have to have something to advocate for. This is the council that decides rather companies receive waivers for BEP participation. There are many other issues that they deal with. My only suggestion is that when you go to the council have your company in position to do business. Make sure you are in good standing with the state. It is always helpful that you are certified with CMS as a BEP company.

Caught Red Handed/changing timing on yellow lights

Has anyone gotten a red light ticket where the time was less than the 3 seconds allowed by law?

I saw in the Sun Trib a large article where the city illegally got 8mil from issuing tickets to people who did NOT break the law.

The city will KEEP the ill gotten funds.

If that is true...that sucks. Why should a mayor and his CDOT Commissioner be allowed to break the law and get away with it.

Red light cameras continue to be a problem for car drivers in Chicago.

As traffic violations affect insurance rates. As it is expensive to pay a ticket, the fines, and school...this action against Chicago drivers should be addressed by ALL Aldermen!

Get the $$ back for those who were ticketed illegally!

What do others think? Have any of us gotten one of those bogus tickets?

  • Tracy BB Super Cute Tracy

I tried to fight it and they claimed they never got my request for hearing and doubled the fine and now said it was out of their hands.

Tracy, email patricia.jackiowak@cityofchicago.org. Ask if she can find out if your ticket was one of the "questionable" tickets. Ask if there is any kind of investigation she can do on her end.

It is true that MAIL can be terrible in Chicago. Who knows if it is a postal fiasco or another systemic failure in Chicagos' parking tickets.

THANKS for the response. Ask Jackiowak if she can look into it. If it is a system failure, we can also send to the DOIT top person. Department of Information technology and the Inspector general. The Trib also has investigators who might be interested in your case as DATA to support their claims about Chicago Parking Tickets.

There is also a head of the parking tickets. He should look into if their lock box person dropped the ball or the mail. That person has the authority to do that. I used to know the guy...he was WONDERFUL. But he is gone now. The question is, Who replaced Mat D?
