Housing Needed

As you may know, Chicago Urban Art Retreat Cente has a Women's Residence on our 2nd floor. We offer safe comfortable furnished housing for individual women. We are full and now need to find alternatives for women who inquire.
Does anyone know of a rental opportunity for a single woman who needs to leave her husband's house? just got laid off from the bakery. Works for a Temp agency with lots of experience in bakery work. She is hopeful she can get another situation soon.
If you have a small inexpensive rental or know of one for this mature woman, please contact Urban Art Retreat and we will let this woman know about the possibility. Thanks a lot. Dianna@urbanartretreat.com

Streets and San drove around today

Saw a truck driving by and stopped it. The District Manager was here surveying what work needed to be done.

Lets hope he deals with the disgusting mountains of wood chips at Lake/Homan and Kedzie/Maypole that attract rats. Shame on the NFP who was the catalyst for that dumping and now won't work to clean it up. Cei la vie. There are also alleys that FLY DUMPERS drive through and dump. It is astounding that with all the Police around...they don't arrest these dumpers. maybe we have 100 dumps a day!

Help convict a fly dumper....this is GOOD. Take pics that will convict...get some chump change :-) It will at least pay for your plastic bags.

There seems to be a difference of opinion who is responsible to sweep the streets and alleys.

Some S&S workers think it is the residents' job. As alleys and streets are paid for by taxpayer $$ and workers are paid by taxpayer $$...my call says that THE CITY OF CHICAGO is responsible to keep streets and alleys clean. They spend millions to install these streets. They are also paid for the upkeep. Sometimes they can use FREE prison labor (which is also managed poorly SWAP) In some neighborhoods contractors are paid and they don't clean. More outrageously...Offenders go scott free.

Tickets will help STOP littering, fly dumping, throwing booze bottles, drug needles, poop and pee. If they issued 100 a day in EGP...it would get alot cleaner over here. For those who can't pay their ticket fine; let THEM get the broom, rake, and sweeep sweeeep sweeep...ALL SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, WINTER!!!

The jerk who made the mess should clean it up or pay to clean it up. It is NOT the job of neighbors. Many do not agree with this position. They want to volunteer and do the job for free that city workers and nfps are already paid to do.

Things won't get better unless those who are paid WORK.

Request that the responder who marked COMPLETE be punished in some way. Ask that your complaint be put in the employment file of the worker who did not do the work. The primary civic duty of slumdwellers is to make a paper trail so that those who are slacking get removed. There is no reason to pay for a lifetime of not working and then a pension till they die. Loyalties that keep politicians in power who dole out jobs to those who don't work has been going on for maybe 5 decades. That is a long long time and it is time to kill their golden goose.

Do a foia from 311 and ask for their records on your service calls when they in fact are not done. Keep a folder of all service calls you don't get. It will come in handy.

REMEMBER WHEN YOU GO TO VOTE....red, blue, red, blue, red, blue. Forget everything else...The only exemptions are politicians who have been fair and served you well.

    Again...please post your results!

A District Supervisor drove around today. He will clear out 3200/3300 W. Walnut and the alleys north and south of that street. He will deal with the woodchips at Lake/Homan and Maypole/Kedzie. He will clear out the alleys on the north side of Washington from 3100-3300.

Not sure what else was on his plate. I think there was more.

He is an energetic guy who doesn't want to see the kind of mess that he saw when he drove around.

Remember...our civic duty is to report when work is not done in the neighborhood. We need to tell supervisors when people are paid to do a job and don't do the job. People have not been doing this in the past and that is why things are out of countrol in the ghettos.

It is not our job to do the job that a civil servant or nfp were paid to do. That is what we are asked to do...volunteer for green days.

The Maypole/Kedzie city owned vacant lot is disgusting and if you get out of the car and walk you will want to throw up. Now someone is fly dumping grass clippings. They need to get a ticket too.

Counting-Chicago Style

http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/May-2014/Chicago-crime-rates/

At last someone is writing about "the count". It gives a false impression when numbers are fudged. Changing the basis. Making new definitions. That and a host of other stuff amount to "cookin the books" and "cherry picking". In order for a real true accurate picture to be made comparisons of "apples to apples" is in order.

DavidB and NoahI have been writing about "The Chicago Way" for many years in the Chicago Magazine. THANK YOU GUYS! Chicagoans need to read these articles and take action to make the city a better place to live.

A comparison of CPD murder counts and Cook County Morgue should reveal some HUGE disparity. I hope that some day someone, some institution, some governmental agency has the hutzpa...to dig and shine the light of day on this.

How empty does the city have to be before someone smart catches on????
Where are the young, ambitious political wanabees? Where are the smart techies who could gather up these data and re evaluate?

Again THANKS to Chicago Magazine. Thanks to DavidB and NoahI.

'A' for Obama, 'F' for Emanuel: North Lawndale residents

By JERAMIE BIZZLE and TERRY DEAN
Contributing Reporter

NORTH LAWNDALE - A small sample of residents in North Lawndale give high grades to President Barack Obama for his job performance, while giving Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel an "F" for his time in office, according to a survey conducted by Lawndale Alliance, a community organization.

Lawndale residents were asked to grade their elected officials at the national, state, city, ward and county levels. The Alliance sent out emails to 2,700 residents but only 26 replied to the online survey, which launched in April of 2013 and remains open. The results were compiled in February.

Why not? We learned a lot in the process, and engaged in some pretty interesting conversations. We even engaged you to the point where you calculated a somewhat precise response rate and asked why we would bother. You never know what kind of response rate you're going to get when you start. We promised people who participated that we would respond within a certain timeframe, and we did. When we do this again, we know what adjustments to make.

the best president ever.(Another JFK) And now I don't be leave any thing he says. Look all politicians lie to get reelected and try not to get caught. But in his case he goes on TV and says one thing then says another thing to cover up for the first thing he said. Like the time he said you can keep your doctor and the health insurance plan that you have PERIOD that turned out to be lie. And this leading from behind could get us in another war. He never should have stop the missile defiance system that the US was going to put in Poland that may have stop the Russians from what there doing now. Remember what he said when he tough the micro phone was turn off and it wasn't to the Russian diplomat. And now he wants to cut are military with everything that's going on in the world.
