Found Dog

Still hoping to reunite this friendly little guy with his family. Found on 11/17 near Barry and Christiana.

  • Deb R 60641 resident 40 + yrs.

Sounds as if you're more interested in finding his owner than the owner is interested in finding him. That makes me sad. Maybe he found his forever home with your sister's family.

  • We'll, it sounds like he's in good hands. Thanks again, Jen,

Township closing?

Does anyone know the full story? I heard last night that it was their last show and I've also heard the bar itself is closing. Anyone know what's up?

I started doing shows there with Pancho, he wanted to sell, I brought in Tamiz, we became 50/50 partners, my other company MP productions continued to do the booking, I ran the bar and evenings Tamiz ran the kitchen and brunches, at some point we decided that it was time to "divorce" and we negotiated a buyout, unfortunately I was not able to outbid his new partner Gino Battaglia and had to bow out selling my share of the company for a very fair price, after it was official they told us to cancel or move all shows with no notice and that's what we are doing, the venue was dismantled and half the staff quit/walked out, I wish them luck.

  • I talked to Tamiz, who is the owner and a great guy, He said they got a few violation, which is normal, and now they have passed inspection.

Graffiti Removal

Graffiti on an unfinished wood privacy fence- already reported to 311 for city removal. I'm really bugged about this. Any suggestions for how to handle/deter this in the future?

  • Aimee7 Resident

Update: City removal today! 8 day service

  • 8 days? That's slow! I've had it cleared later in the day I file, the next day at the latest.

  • Carter O'Brien lager beer rioter

They are a lot faster for brick and siding, the wood graffiti removal definitely has a lag. I usually see a few days for the former, but when my alleyside wood fence was hit it took about 2 weeks. That was a decade ago, hasn't been touched since.

TRIBUNE: Fate of STOP FOR PEDESTRIANS IN CROSSWALK signs

Mid-intersection street mounted sign Milwaukee at Sawyer went MIA early spring 2014. I asked Alderman Rey Colon about replacement. Answer: ~$500 cost must come from 35th Ward Aldermanic menu funds, not City/CDOT budget. So I contacted Mr. Hilkevitch since:
1. in street mounted signs STOP FOR PEDESTRIANS IN CROSSWALK are visual cue that enhances Pedestrian Safety. Milwaukee Ave location has 25,000 vehicles/day AND is heavily used by pedestrians day & evening on City designated PEDESTRIAN ORIENTED STREET in heart of vibrant Logan Square business district.
2. signs are intrinsically subject to wear/damage and getting plowed over by (idiot) drivers
3. CDOT/City annual budget should anticipate replacement cost for these signs, like replacement of Stop, Tow Zone, No Parking etc which come from City budget, not Alderman ward menu funds
4. Red Light and Schools/Parks cameras bring in ~$100,000,000 per yr. It's not Mayor Emanuel slush fund to plug police overtime etc. Public Safety & real leadership means: take some of that $ and pay to replace damaged signs STOP FOR PEDESTRIANS IN CROSSWALK as needed.

The DUI KING of City Council, Alderman Rey Colon offered this comment in Tribune: "These signs are very popular with constituents who request them often," Colon said. But he said the average life of the signs "is like freshly cut flowers that wither and die."

Alderman: it's time for your political career to do the same.

  • I think those little buggers should grow by three feet, glow like a sci-fi show, and be made of METAL. That would teach people real fast to pay attention and stop running over the little neon man!

  • I dunno...Many people who hit those signs don't take care of their cars anyway, so adding some scratches to go with the speed holes and fart cans (mufflers) won't matter to them...

Recommend Company to do Network and A/V Wiring for New Home?

We are building a new home in Logan Square, and need some expertise on the Network, Audio/Visual wiring design of the house.

Our electrician says he can run the cables any way we'd like, but we were looking for someone who can help with the design, picking the correct materials and making sure the right work is done.

Any recommendations?

  • Again I agree 100 percent with Keith. They set up everything in our home and recently came back out to install another TV for us. An added bonus is they are so mindful of your time and so clean!!!

  • Its actually called
Hookup Solutions. Great company, I worked with the owner for several years when he was starting the busines. He's good. VERY good!

I would like to tell anyone who is interested that we do not want to be there anymore that you want us there. We mean no harm and we try to respect the community and all the people who pass through on a daily basis. Don't be scared of us. Try to keep an open mind. Notice that when you do pass through that we try very hard to keep it as clean as we can, we usually don't speak unless spoken to, and we never ask for anything. Some of deal with mental illness others have drug and alcohol problems but there are some of us who are very down on our luck with no family or place to go. If anyone would just reach out and ask they would know that we are harmless and we are just as afraid as you are remember we are there all night. We are alone we are treated as if we are not human and sometimes invisible as if this is what we really want sometimes people think the answer is as simple as getting a job which is a real challenge when you cannot keep your hygiene up, get proper rest and have no way to get back and forth imagine how frightening it is to go out all day and look for a job come back and find that the little bit you own has been discarded by the city. For just a minute put yourself in our shoes and maybe do for us what you would want someone to do for you if you were in our position. It absolutely is not as easy as it sounds.

Everyone there is there to help you get out of this situation and get back on your feet. They house you, find you nice outfits to wear and help you find a job. They also are at Friendly Towers on Wilson Ave. Wonderful people and they are there for you! And anyone else. You just can't bring liquor or drugs with you. Not that you are doing those things but if you do bring anyone with you they need to know that it won't work if they try. My prayers are with all of you.

  • I heard they charge a fee at the Parks now, to take a shower. Glad you are back on your feet.

Hey neighbors. I've recently become aware of several important pieces of mail that never got delivered to us and am trying to figure out the best way to address this and with whom (ie, call the post-office on California, track down my mail carrier, call the national branch??). After being in our location for 2 years, we've suddenly had mail returned to a couple of different senders with notices like, "address unknown," or they'll say they attempted 3 times, even though there was no notice and I was home each of the dates listed on the "attempt form." I have verified that the address was correct on the letters/packages that were returned. We still continue to get all our junk mail and ComEd bills as well as other peoples' mail, but now we're missing stuff. Any suggestions or input would be much appreciated!

Julie, I suggest that -- unless the mis-delivered mail you receive is within a house or two of being correct -- you take it back to the Clemente post office in person. With evidence of faulty delivery in your hand, you have much more power to complain about your own missing mail. When I did this a few years ago, it received much more attention than the simple "my mail is missing" message.

I agree with the other posters' observations about regular versus substitute mail carriers. The performance of the latter only serves to underscore the notorious reputation of the post office.

The quality of delivery accuracy to me has improved over the past two decades. However, my experience with neighborhood mailboxes has gone in the opposite direction. At this point, I drop all outbound mail only at the Clemente post office. Forgive me if this is a thread hijack, but I wonder how many others have been likewise trained by negative reinforcement into this habit.

Now that the weather is getting so very cold will the city do something about the homeless community living under the bridge at Belmont and Kedzie? I am just curious the city comes and periodically removes their belongings will they still do that during the winter monthes?

  • Carter O'Brien lager beer rioter

Well, I was just there. And while I do not hate on any of these folks, their gauntlet of junk encroaching on the public way is impossible to understate. Nobody gets to claim the sidewalk for their own use AFAIC. And for the record, their ties to drug running and gangs are well known.

Christmas trees??

I finally live in an apartment with very tall ceilings and am very excited to have a nice, tall Christmas tree this year. Any suggestions for where I can go in the area to buy a tree this year??

  • Used to go to Gethsemane even though it was far (it was close to my mom's and we had a tradition of buying our trees together). For the past couple of years, I've gone to Christy Weber on Grand. Trees have held their needles well.

  • I'm sorry if I upset anyone. I thought since there was an option to check to post about needing a place to live I could post here. I thought it would be better on here to share with the community that we were looking for someone to take over our lease. We are not a broker or the management company. And also maybe someone on here had a friend or relative looking to move to the area.
