People's Gas

There is a bush that has never been replaced from when People's Gas installed my new meter outside. I have called them and even Alderman Harris. It has been months and that bush was very expensive. Anybody have any advice on what I should do? Thanks

  • My Mom is 86 years old. Work was done completely removing both walkways from sidewalk to the curb in front of her home. The walkways have been replaced with gravel. It is hazardous for her now. Snow removal will be impossible. This now becomes an ADA issue. What should she do?

Needless to say, there has been no restoration of her landscape as well.

That's terrible. Have you tried contacting the alderman?

Anyone know about living at 7321 South Shore or 6700 South Shore?

Hi All,
I've been investigating moving back to South Shore (I'm in California now, but grew up in HP/SS and lived at 73rd & Jeff from '85 to '98). Hi All,
I've been investigating moving back to South Shore (I'm in California now, but grew up in HP/SS and lived at 73rd & Jeff from '85 to '98). Been looking at real estate, paying close attention to all the reports you've given on all the unfortunate changes in the community in the last few years, but still interested because frankly, I LOVED living there and I have faith in it making a rebound (in large part because of the Everyblock member community). I've been looking at two high rises, 7321 SS Drive and 6700 SS Drive. Re 7321, it's an older building, looks beautiful and has some reasonable prices for condos, but I wonder mainly about heating an older place like that, if it's sky high or not. 6700 is newer, presumably with more efficient heating, but I also wonder about the level of noise from other apartments in both of them. Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) living in those two buildings? Even know some one who lives there I might be able to communicate with? Thanks!

  • Hugh Williams 45yr HP & SS res, now in Cali, coming home.

Thanks Clarice, I'll take a look. Thanks Sheila; but I still don't know what building you and Normjohn call the "Quadrangle". Is that the one at 6700 South Shore?

  • Hugh_
I'm hoping to give you a tour of 7321.

Dominicks

So I just read the city will be buying the dominicks mall? How will this effect the chances of getting a grocer back? Am I hearing this right? Any concise info would be great, since my pc is ill.

    - The owner of the property is based in California and isn't as sensitive to the needs of the community that a local owner would be.

    - The owner has no incentive to quickly replace Dominick's or quickly invest the reported $6 million needed in improvements since the Dominick's lease runs through May of 2015. They're basically collecting 18 months of inflated on a closed store with no maintenance required.

    - To lease the space to another tenant would require improvements and rent concessions as it has been reported that what they're asking, and what Dominick's has been paying, is above fair market value.

    - When the news initially broke that Dominick's would continue to pay their rent through May 2015, I knew that the owner wouldn't have a sense of urgency in working to find a new grocer.

Hello All My South Shore Neighbors

Hello Neighbors,
Glad to connect with some people that are concerned about where they live. I was wondering about that shooting on Tuesday night. I came home from work and seen the crowd of people in shock. I think its time we start seeing more police presence just like Hyde Park. I know we don't have the commercial business like them bit, this is troubling to have a shooting so close to a street like South Shore. I am going to the Alderman office to see about more police walking the beat again. Any other suggestions is greatly appreciated.

  • Candace Collins Secretary, Park Manor Neighbors Community Council

This is a great event. I attended last year and I got a lot of good information. If you have problem buildings on your block or city services issues, this is the place to be.
    I will be attending!

  • Happy making better choices

I am just now seeing this, can you share the info you learned at the troubled bld mtg?

On a related note; if anyone has any old toys their pup has lost interest in, consider giving them a second life by donating them to one of the dog parks... also any grocery bags for the bag dispensers would also be greatly appreciated.

Owner of 7758-46 S. Kingston -do you know him/her?

Hi,

To my understanding, someone has purchased the building and wants to actually take care of it and be a responsible landlord. Once the old tenants were kicked out, the block was much better...quite, less litter, no yelling, less ppl hanging out on the corners, etc. Now it seems they are renting again and the chairs are on the sidewalk now with folks loitering, yelling down the block, drinking, and tossing trash in the street.

I just saw that Saturday at 10a when I drove by. Why aren't these landlords adding clauses to the leases for disturbing the peace and breaking rules. There are clear no loitering signs posted on the building that to my understanding are ignored.

Buildings like this has the potential to bring in a lot of tenants to the area. It needs to attract ppl with common sense and those who respect their neighbors. Mandating quite hours is one way to quickly weed out those who want to cause trouble. Simple and free ammo to an arsenal of tricks for a better building and better block. Pangea manages a few buildings on Kingston from 75th-79th and they don't appear to have these issues on a regular basis. I have spoken to them about issues on various blocks of Kingston and it was addressed in a reasonable amount of time. Once a tenant starts to act out, the mediation and sometimes eviction process is swift which I appreciate. I am sure that others do as well if they want to just enjoy their homes in peace.

The block shouldn't have to have a marked car parked on it for ppl to be respectful and live in order which in the past 2 yrs was required for the former residents of this particular building. I don't want this to be the same for the new ones.
