On a related note; if anyone has any old toys their pup has lost interest in, consider giving them a second life by donating them to one of the dog parks... also any grocery bags for the bag dispensers would also be greatly appreciated.

Owner of 7758-46 S. Kingston -do you know him/her?

Hi,

To my understanding, someone has purchased the building and wants to actually take care of it and be a responsible landlord. Once the old tenants were kicked out, the block was much better...quite, less litter, no yelling, less ppl hanging out on the corners, etc. Now it seems they are renting again and the chairs are on the sidewalk now with folks loitering, yelling down the block, drinking, and tossing trash in the street.

I just saw that Saturday at 10a when I drove by. Why aren't these landlords adding clauses to the leases for disturbing the peace and breaking rules. There are clear no loitering signs posted on the building that to my understanding are ignored.

Buildings like this has the potential to bring in a lot of tenants to the area. It needs to attract ppl with common sense and those who respect their neighbors. Mandating quite hours is one way to quickly weed out those who want to cause trouble. Simple and free ammo to an arsenal of tricks for a better building and better block. Pangea manages a few buildings on Kingston from 75th-79th and they don't appear to have these issues on a regular basis. I have spoken to them about issues on various blocks of Kingston and it was addressed in a reasonable amount of time. Once a tenant starts to act out, the mediation and sometimes eviction process is swift which I appreciate. I am sure that others do as well if they want to just enjoy their homes in peace.

The block shouldn't have to have a marked car parked on it for ppl to be respectful and live in order which in the past 2 yrs was required for the former residents of this particular building. I don't want this to be the same for the new ones.

Anyone know about living at 7321 South Shore or 6700 South Shore?

Hi All,
I've been investigating moving back to South Shore (I'm in California now, but grew up in HP/SS and lived at 73rd & Jeff from '85 to '98). Hi All,
I've been investigating moving back to South Shore (I'm in California now, but grew up in HP/SS and lived at 73rd & Jeff from '85 to '98). Been looking at real estate, paying close attention to all the reports you've given on all the unfortunate changes in the community in the last few years, but still interested because frankly, I LOVED living there and I have faith in it making a rebound (in large part because of the Everyblock member community). I've been looking at two high rises, 7321 SS Drive and 6700 SS Drive. Re 7321, it's an older building, looks beautiful and has some reasonable prices for condos, but I wonder mainly about heating an older place like that, if it's sky high or not. 6700 is newer, presumably with more efficient heating, but I also wonder about the level of noise from other apartments in both of them. Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) living in those two buildings? Even know some one who lives there I might be able to communicate with? Thanks!

    Hello, Hugh.

I live at 7321 S. South Shore Drive. It is an exceptionally beautiful place with large apartments. It is a historic building, on the National Register of Historic Places. The building owns 300 feet of Lake Michigan waterfront, so there are expansive views from all units and access directly to the lake.
Our assessments include heat, water, real estate taxes and basic building insurance, plus normal maintenance and security. We are a co-op, so all owners share in the responsibility and the pride in this place. My husband and I are on the Hospitality Committee and we would be delighted to show you around.
Here is a site that will give you a little information about the building and its history.

Event space needed

Hello all,
I am in need of rental space in the 7th Ward. I know about the G Spot and Quarry. I do not care for The Quarry's owner, she is very rude and the food is terrible. I will contact the G spot, but if anyone knows any other places, please let me know. I have tried to reach out to a couple of church's but no luck. I need this for around October 15-17 .

No Prostitutes?

Guess no one else sees them. Or is that in a separate crime section? We see them on Exchange in mid-day and always call them in. Their bookkeepers appear to be waiting for them at 76th and Coles.

  • Andy Ashlund citizen

Yes, I will try to get the address -- east side of exchange between 77th and 76th. There is a lot of action there; shirtless guy with a huge belly always standing in the open door...that block is infamous all over the City and Northern Indiana. Commander Coffee knew about it, but he got transferred too soon to help us.

  • There is a CAPS meeting tomorrow at 7:00p.m. taking place at The Rainbow Beach Fieldhouse. Beat 421 covers the vicinity where this activity is taking place.

Today, September 5, 2014 we called 911 four times and we also contact Superintendent Garry McCarthy about no dispatch came out per our request. These workers have been outside working with saws. drills, hammering etc at 5:00 am. The city of Chicago work ordinance is 8:00 am. This is the reason this city is in the condition it is in. The Chicago Police dept is a joke for this city. They do no come out when we call over east and people just come into the neighborhood and disrespect the area like we are nobody. I am report this to the inspector general and the news media. I have video with the time on it showing the event. We called the building inspector to come out and inspect back in April of this year, No Inspector has come out yet. I contacted Commissioner Felicia Davis on this issue, no response yet. Everybody wonder why this City is in the condition and screwed up as is, no city official and police dept are doing their job, they want to collect the check but do no want to do the work. This was reported to Alderman Michelle Harris over 5 times and like she always do nothing, nothing is what has occurred. Next Springfield and Civil lawsuit.

Email Sent to Alderwoman Harris Regarding Walgreen's Parking Lot & Deteriorating Sewage Drain on 71&

Dear Alderwoman Michelle,

I am concerned about the Walgreen's parking lot on 71st Jeffery. When there are heavy rains the lot is flooded and this has been going on for over a year. Also, the entrance driveway on 71st & Jeffery just off BABA's restaurant has damage to the sewage drain and is creating a deep hole around it.

Is there anything that can be done about it? I am sure Walgreen's is leasing from the property owner, but the crater around the sewage drain is on City of Chicago property.

Thank you,

Tammy James

  • Thank you Julilama, I have contacted the Alderman's office and they are looking into it. They will address the sink hole on the public street on 71st Jeffery and will call Walgreen's about fixing the sewer on the parking lot. However, the parking lot may remain flooded as you stated it is private property.

  • Jolyon renter/resident

Good luck Tammy. Thanks for pushing on this one!
