Amy Crawford bought the Election (I Endorse?)

It was an interesting 18months but things got colorful the last four months of the campaign when Amy Crawford decided to jump in the race. It was an interesting 18months but things got colorful the last four months of the campaign when Amy Crawford decided to jump in the race. Not let me inform you that none of Ms. Davis friends got behind her in support of her announcement. Not even Marc Kaplan. In the process of Amy meeting with local blogs (Uptown Uprising) and neighborhood organizations, we learned that some of Denice Davis dear friends of 25+ years were trying to recruit candidates to run against her and James Cappleman. They recruited Amy Crawford. I later learned that ONE Northside was instrumental in the recruitment of Amy Crawford. Well some members of the recruiting team finds out that Amy Crawford is not asprogressive as she claims and jump ship (I won't name names).

Moving forward, we then learn that Amy Crawford has retained Brendan Shiller and Michilla Blaise as political consultants. Brendan Shiller is Helen Shiller's son for those who do not know. Helen Shiller in some form is also a part of this consulting company.
This was strategic on Amy's behalf. I only frowned on it when she started saying "Denice Davis represents the old and the ward doesn't want to go back the road of Helen Shiller" all the while she is paying the Shiller's top dollar.

Amy Crawford has been inconsitent to put it nicely. Depending on what part of the ward she is engaging herpositions change. Amy Crawford paid Denice Davis close friends $500 dollars a week to work for her. Considering the fact that Amy Crawford have not been involved in the community at all, I am pretty sure Helen and Brendan provided Amy Crawford their contact information. My opinion Amy is WOLF in Sheep clothing. Corporate interest.

I respect the fact that before James Cappleman decided to run he at least was hands on in the community in regards to his issues. I do not agree with him but in choosing the lesser of two evils, I endorse James Cappleman.

  • Ryne Patrick Big bad socialist

No Hellen Shiller was not paid off by Sedgwick because she didn't accept campaign contributions from their real estate agents. Cappleman has from JDL on the other hand. The tif was created for the field house and more underground parking. There are public statements mentioning this. JDL and their development plan didn't come into the picture til after Cappleman got elected. And yes he's taken thousands from realtors that sell JDL apartments.

Summer Options for 6 year old child

I'm looking for daycare options for my 6 year old for this upcoming summer. I work from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. The Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club doesn't start until 8 am but I have to be at work by 8 am. I need to pick up as late as 6 pm on some days. Any suggestions/recommendations for high quality group childcare for a 6 year old in the area? Looking for entire summer, not just short summer camps. Thank you!

  • mike Return Chicagoan circa 1996

Hamlin park offers day camps during the summer that I have sent my boys to. It's not too expensive and you need to sign up online. It is offered through the Chicago park district.

  • SPIRO 1983 sergeant 19

Put the delinquent in a boot camp or ymca or bible study thank you very much.

Specialty Video Closing

I was told today that the video store on Broadway, between Melrose and Belmont will be closing in the Spring. The reason was a rent increase.

    So sad but oh well.

  • Simple, pay the rent or get the F out. By not paying the rent, the bar owners stole money from the property owner, like a common thief! So long, bring in somebody new.

30 Lake View High School Students Headed to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

-LVHS Principal Celebrates Students for Choosing his Alma Mater-

Like many high schools this time of year, the hallways at LVHS are full of students “Repping,” -- that is, representing their university choices through their sweatshirts, water bottles, and other college-bound gear.

“Repping is cool,” says Atil M, one of 30 LVHS seniors who will soon make U of I at Urbana-Champaign his home, majoring in Industrial Engineering. “I like reaping.”

Lots of police cars at Belmont (in internet cafe btw Halsted and Clark) 5Feb

Does anyone know what happened yesterday (Monday) around 12:45pm on Belmont? I was waiting for the Belmont bus, two guys were interacting...one white, young guy was yelling loud at the black guy with a white fur coat on that he made him lose $1000 and miss his flight, that he was "legit, a taxpayer" and the other guy was according to him " a drug dealer". I saw the black guy being talk to by other cops on the street. My bus pulled up just then. It was intense. Lots of commotion. ???

Hey Beebee, do you know what the name of that internet cafe was?

  • It seemed to close soon after the police stormed it Feb 5, 2013 (two years ago). Can't remember the name, but it had the word INTERNET in block letters across the front of it. It was just west of the alley in between Halsted and Clark on the northside of Belmont Avenue.

The story would be composed of a 400-600 word article and a 2 minute video piece. So ideally, I would like to have you speak quickly to me on camera. It is possible to be on camera anonymously, although not preferred. The piece will be published on our website: http://news.medill.northwestern.edu/chicago/ and CanTV (the public access channel) for a day. If you are interested or know someone who may be a good contact, I would very much appreciate a message back.
Thanks, Julie

  • Hi Julie,
While I don't have a child, I just wanted to mention that generally the correct term is considered "transgender" instead of "transgendered."

    Good luck with your research!

Found a Ring

Yesterday I found a ring in the middle of the street on the intersection of Clark & Diversy. This seems to be a wedding ring & would like to return it to its rightful owner. I know this is a long shot, but I figured I'd try anyway. I'm not going to post a pic of it but if you recently lost your ring and believe it is yours please send me a private message with a detailed description or better yet a pic. Feel free to forward this.

Our client is seeking a 3BR/2BA+ in an elevator building in the Lakeview/Lincoln Park area. We have exhausted our search on the MLS and are looking for owners considering selling.

Aluminum Coating Cost for Flat Roof

I have a 2007 new build (the standard issue brick rectangle) with a flat roof (that has what I believe is the original aluminum coating on the roof). I have started getting estimates for the application of a new layer of aluminum coating on the roof and the estimates ($1200+) strike me as a bit high for what I understand the service to entail (broom clean and application of one coat of aluminum coating). I would greatly appreciate thoughts on (1) how much this service should cost (Angie's List is not helping me here) and/or (2) whether most people just do this themselves. Thanks in advance!

  • Any thoughts on the above? Thanks again in advance!

  • Marcin Talaga Realtor/General Contractor

You can factor it'll cost around $.60-$.80 per/sf. If your roof is 1500 square feet for example then it'll cost somewhere around $900-$1200 if you hire a pro. You can do it yourself. Home depot sells a good one called Henry Fibre Aluminum Roof coating. You can probably get it done for half the cost, just be careful up on the roof of course.

I've reviewed the published agendas of both the Zoning and the Housing committees from August 2014 through January 2015 and could find no mention of this address for a zoning change or any other city council or committee action. Because of the election, there will not be any city council meetings or committee meetings in February. There is a Housing committee hearing scheduled for 3/11 10am and two Zoning Committee Hearings next month: 3/12 and 3/17 , both staring at 10am in Council Chambers, before the 10am 3/18 City Council meeting. No agendas for these committee meetings are available yet. Shortly after 3/1 some of the agendas for the March meetings should start to appear. You can check the web site:
https://chicago.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx for any additional committee meeting dates, changes in times/locations, and the meeting agendas. The current or new alderman for the ward may know more about the property before any hearing action. The press coverage about the property are old stories at:

Your Alderman Deceiving Who...Deceiving You.

Below is a photo of one of Cappleman's mailers.

He is quoting a crime trend from a full 10 YEARS before he was elected in 2011.

See it for yourself it it curious.

This is also disingenuous and sneaky in my opinion.

What happened to the proposed Peet's at Aldine & Broadway?

There was about hiring at that location several weeks. Now there's a For Rent sign on that corner. Did the lease fall through? I'm disappointed that the corner has been empty for so long. That Caribou store was so cute and always busy.

  • That Caribou seemed to have steady traffic. In hindsight, maybe that was an illusion on how profitable this location was.
Is this the only Caribou that Peets didn't re-open around Lakeview?

If a big national corporation doesn't have the business model to re-open there, it makes me wonder who will?

Does anyone else think Peet's decision will scare away other potential tenants?

  • L

They didn't reopen the one on the west side of Lake View across from Whole Foods either.

Traffic light coming to Clark and School?

I drove through N. Clark and W. School tonight.

There's a new traffic light and pole there. It's not operating.

Anyone have any additional details?

I've driven through this intersection countless times. I noticed drivers don't always stop and go and yield in the correct order with other drivers who have been waiting. I figured it had something to do with the two streets not intersecting at a perfect 90 degrees. Somehow it is distracts or confuses us.

But, I never considered it enough of an issue to install a light.

Have there been a high number of accidents there? Or is this something to help with Wrigley Field traffic?

  • @chp

I wish i could thank you a thousand times for that

    Spot on!

Id be happy with just a left turn lane in most places!

  • Eh, I'll take a traffic light over a stop sign. People (motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians) tend to not know how to behave themselves at stop signs.
