Black politicans/CHA undermining progress in Chatham and Bronzeville(Must be Stopped)!!!

There is currently more CHA being developed for state street. Why is it that the majority of this "affordable housing" is only slated for areas that already have an disporpotionate amount of this housing(middle class black areas)? They are using our communities as dumpining areas to preserve downtown and trendy areas of the north side. They are using our communities as dumpining areas to preserve downtown and trendy areas of the north side. Its already hard enough to get development on the south side and the city and alderpeople are contributing to this.

Dowell just wants to dilute the middlle class(like Brookings) so she can ensure her continual re-election as she knows the south loop won't support her. She knows the middle class would challenge her and hold her accountable and she can't have that. I hope the black middle class is paying attention to how the black politicans are actually working against them. This is true for Brookings also, what happened in the remap was just dispicable.

Everyone contact your federal senator/reps and the republicans and tell them u support cutting of the HUD budget. Cut the budget so that there is only enough for seniors, the disabled, and returning vets. Also tell everyone you know and in community meetings. You don't have to vote for the republicans, just let them know that they have your support for these cuts. The budget cuts will Force CHA to sell their public housing to the private market and there will be less section 8 in your area raising property values.

Black people should be the most vocal of everyone as our areas are used as areas to dump them(section 8 public housing). THEN PEOPLE ALWAYS WONDER WHY THE BLACK AREAS OF TOWN ARE ALWAYS THE SLUMS. The black politicans don't care about the black community they only care about their power. They continue to undermine progress and blame racism for the non progress , while they are the actual problem ie Dowell, Sawyer, and Brookings.

Lets vote based on candiates who will represent our interest whether they be gay, lesbian, republican, green party, white, asian etc.

I dont care how bad society has beat you down, that does not give you an excuse to commit crimes and terrorize otherwise peacefull neighborhoods. Pointing the finger at "mortgage bankers" is a way of excusing this type of behavior. Thank god people arent going for this b.s. anymore. A criminal is a criminal and just because he and I share the same skin color that does not make him any less of a criminal.

Oprah has Left Chicago

I note that Oprah Winfrey has now completely left Chicago, turning her filthy rich back on our City and the Black African American Community.

Oprah has closed her Harpo Chicago studios and now does not employ anyone in Chicago

Oh, but she still claims to be a great champion of the Black African American masses... .she just chooses not to employ any Black African Americans.

Good bye Oprah, you will not be missed.

Bronzeville will continue to improve thanks to the hard work of good people who live and work here, who care about the neighborhood and our city.

  • Alan, if that's the best post you have ever read you need to get out more. Oprah made the West loop what it is today. That and about a million other good things that I can eloborate on if necesary when I have more energy.

I made positive comments about Magic Johnson investing in underserved Black African American communities, making honest profits by running successful movie theaters. I tried to compare and contrast the positive business actions of Magic Johnson as opposed to the negative, divest and hang out in LA and New York actions of Oprah Winfrey.

Unfortunately this week the Tribune reported that Magic Johnson gave over 200,000 to the election campaign of Mayor Rahm Emannual and Magic Johnson was apparently rewarded with an insider deal of over $100 million for one of his companies to do janitorial work in Chicago public schools.

This isn't honest, investing in the urban community business - this is:

    Crony Capitalism.

Something we might expect in a corrupt third world nation.

I apologize for writing positively about Magic Johnson.

Does This Happen Often?

It has come to my attention that a Gen-Y visitor to Tower 4 on South Prairie took his own life by jumping from the 35th floor, and landing in the (empty) swimming pool on the 6th level (top of the parking podium). I believe this was the morning of Tuesday, the 10th.

Hazmat crews were working at the building yesterday.

I've seen nothing in the media about it. Are high-rise jumpers common to be "un-news worthy"?

Jeffrey, I think the idea is that depression can cause the person to feel hopeless so having suicide in front of you in that state makes it a more likely option. I have no idea if that's true or not. I see the youth violence a bit differently. That seems like much more a societal rather than medical issue and not sure it originates from seeing kids killed on the news but rather what these kids see on their street corners.

I do wish the topic of suicide was much more prevalent in our society. It happens so often and yet people don't know that. It makes me wonder if perhaps we would be less judgmental and more connected if we realized there are so many around us that see only death as an option.

  • Jeffrey Booker 40 years in Chicago; the city does not work well.

I would like to expound on both of your points. Not so much a public debate, but rather an attempt to exchange perspectives. You seem to be compassionate and that is a good thing. It seems as though you can send messages, but I'm not sure how that option is accessed.

New Restaurant at Munchies Location

Hi Neighbors,

Just want to let you know there's a new restaurant coming into the old Munchies location. They are doing work on the space now. It's called Yassa and is Senegalese food. Looks good and this will be there second location I believe.

  • I like the Nem rolls too. They are delicious!

  • Good morning everyone. Very nice staff at Yassa. The only problem I had was that I follow the Bible's dietary law and selected a dish with chicken & fish. When I stirred it, there was shrimp in it and that was not listed in the dish's description on the menu. For someone allergic to shrimp, that could've been deadly. Although I brought it to their attention, the menu hasn't changed to mention shrimp in that dish.

See the bird's eye view of the new Cermak Green Line station

http://us8.campaign-archive1.com/?u=e2489bf46a0d5c42a5e06ce3f&id=22632e8564

Drone Media Chicago published this video of a quadcopter flying over the CTA's newest station (number 146, I believe) at 12 E Cermak Rd.

The station, designed by Ross Barney Architects and opened for service on Sunday, February 8, 2015, has a unique tube enclosure that keeps the narrow, center platform free of columns. It's the first fully-enclosed outdoor 'L' station in Chicago.
