However, he works in Logan Square and that car is intermittently parked in the same block, enough so that a random city official who sees it occasionally could assume that he lived here.

Can they ticket you for not having a city sticker when your main address is in the suburbs but you work in the city?? Any thoughts would be most appreciated!

(and I'll add that I'm not trying to contest because I hate tickets. Sure I hate tickets, but I pay my few street cleaning/meter overstay tickets each year)

  • I've been contest in person (on Addison St) 4 times and 3 times did not pay the fee. By mail, 3 times and forgive only one time. It's better to have time to show up in person. But ask for schedule for a hearing within 7 days from the day you get the ticket. I live in 60641 and the Addison location is the closest.
    Good luck with that.

I don't think they can get you for being parked 30 days in a 4 month period. I have lived in Logan Square over 10yrs with an out of state plate. & have never received a fine. Just cause your an "out of towner" doesn't mean your not working in the city

I know there's a lot of dog owners/lovers in the Logan Square area, so I am appealing to you for some guidance. I've been bringing my two dogs to their boarders for about 6 years. In the last year I've noticed a rather steep decline in their care. They've come home sick, bitten, etc. and no one has ever called to tell me about it, nor has anyone mentioned it upon pickup. They're always apologetic, but it kind of rings hollow after so many times.

I get that dogs will nip and fight and that this stuff happens; of course it does. I also don't need to know what happens every second; neither one of those is the problem. It's that they don't tell me because they don't notice. Which means they're not watching. And I'm paying them to watch my dog.

So. Do you bring your dogs somewhere you consider tried and true? Have any cautionary tales? I'm open to hear any kind of suggestions you can provide!

It's in Ravenswood, but I've always had an awesome experience with Urban Pooch. I moved from Ravenswood to Wicker Park to Avondale, and still take my dog to Urban Pooch for boarding because they're a clean, safe, family-run business with a great model: no cages! The dogs stay 24 hours/day in the play room with round-the-clock staff. There are plenty of beds for when they're tired and of course, lots of playmates. Great business, can't recommend them more.

Feedback on an area

Hello,

My wife and I are considering a move to a new area of Logan Square (already a Logan Square resident), and I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on the 1800 block of North Albany Ave. as well as the surrounding area. Just wondering what the neighborhood is like as far as local businesses, crime, neighbors, etc.?

Thank you,

Vince

But I've been telling everyone I know about it - i've been inside and it probably needs close to $100K of renovations or it's a complete tear down. I think that's why it's not been swooped upon yet - it's like exactly in the middle of tear down vs. renovate

I just don't want a slumlord - please Gawd no!

No Tresspassing Signs around Emmett and Sawyer?

Looking at apartment near Emmett and Sawyer and see "No Tresspassing" signs posted everywhere. What gives? Any advice on that hood very much appreciated -- not that familiar with Logan Square.

  • Sounds like the landlord has had some problems with uninvited guests. I've seen that on shadier buildings. Never on nice places.

Well, nevermind. Mine has no trespassing and NO HUNTING. signs. on it.

  • Bike Jedi Bike Jedi . I live to bike . Born in the Square.

The bigger problem on that block is that is where a lot of our neighborhood Heroin addicts live . Most of those properties are subsidized housing and sec 8 and owned by the Hispanic Housing develpment corp . A lot of these unsavory types hang out all day in front of the aldermans ofc and McDonalds . None of this is good but it is what we deal with in this age of entitlements .

Pawnshops boom in Logan Square

On February 17 the Zoning Board of Appeals approved another special use permit for a pawnshop in Logan Square - Fullerton Kimball Jewelry & Gold Buyers LLC at 3401 W. Fullerton. There will now be 6 pawnshops in the 60647 area - more than any other neighborhood in the city. And the ZBA continued a request yet for another pawnshop - this one at 2826 N. Milwaukee. How did Logan Square wind up with all the pawnshop love?

Street Sweeping Starts Monday!

Sadly not an April Fool's joke, street cleaning starts again this Monday, April 2nd.

Schedules can be found here:
http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/streets/provdrs/streets_san/svcs/street_sweeping.html
As usual, click on the Sweep Map Ward X to see what section you're in, then click on the Ward X link to try and figure out when your block gets cleaned! It may be more brain power than I can handle this Saturday, but I've gotta mark my calendar to avoid that $50 ticket!

  • Robert Murphy local booster, active neighbor

    Hey,
Thank for the heads up. Don't think the link works -my experience with City links is that they often do not transfer. I was able to find my way based upon the path you provided. Thanks again!

  • One great way to avoid street sweeping tickets is to sign up for alerts via SweepAroundUs.

    http://sweeparound.us/

They will send you emails or texts when your street is scheduled.

Yesterday afternoon, The Pipeline met with Jose Zepada, owner of Taqueria Los Comales, 2148 N Milwaukee, directly across the street from the venue. Zepada’s taqueria made headlines when a North Shore teen was refused entry to The Congress at a NYE show because she did not have her I.D.

Guy scamming people for "tow truck" money

He stated he and his girlfriend needed money for a tow truck and if I could give him 14 dollars, he would give me his a personal belonging (I guess so I would feel he was trustworthy). I don't carry cash so I said no. I drove around the block to look for parking and was feeling bad about how I didn't help. When I found a spot, a half a block up, I saw the guy quickly jump in his car and drive off. Just warning people because he didn't seem to need a tow (haha). He was mid to late 20s, dark haired white guy. I didn't see the girl.

Oldest one in the book folks. The details change, but it's always a scam, whether it's 75 cents for the bus or $13 for a tow.

There was one guy who used to work Clark Street who was great at it. He wore a tweed suit, carried a briefcase and had an English accent. It just so happened he was $2 short of his Metra fare back to the suburbs, and so very embarrassed to ask for help...every day!

Same thing happened to me mid February in the Lincoln Park Home Depot Parking lot around 9PM. He said his fiancee was in the car which was broken down for the last two hours and he needed money for the tow truck while waving his wallet and iphone at me as insurance.I had just read this thread( THANK YOU Ms. S) and the story sounded to familiar, so I sent him to the store for help and walked to my car keeping an eye on him. Then I see him run to his silver car, parked just in front of me start the engine(so much for broken down) and drive off( I think the big contractor guy he hit up next was not as friendly I was). I Called 911 explained the deceptive practice and gave them license plate and description. White guy, full dark hair, medium build wearing a black lightweight NorthFace Jacket. The dispatcher had no idea what to do with the info, but they record those calls so if they ever decide to go listen to those tapes and find out the guys license plate, it's there.

I can't keep her because of my other cat, so she really needs a good home. She is SO sweet. Very cuddly and loves people. She's sleeping on my lap as I write! I'll post pics.

Injured back left leg - limping. Also looks like he/she has mange or a skin infection on back rear near the butt. This dog is emaciated and was chewing on some garbage when I spotted it. I popped a can of cat food open but the dog bolted into the alley between Central Park and Monticello. This dog is not going to make it with the amount of traffic in this area and is probably in a lot of pain. I filed a report with Animal Control but if you live on this block or have seen this dog please comment below so a rescue effort can be made.

Kat, if you can get more information about your neighbors lost dog and perhaps a photo it would be very helpful to add a neighborhood post to EB. I have tried contacting Elsie's owner several times to no avail but as I said from the beginning the dog I found was much smaller and I do not have any reason to believe it's Elsie. Thanks!

Spotted a (lost?) dog tonight at Bell & Hirsch. Slim white pit bull with gray or light markings. No collar, but looked like it had been cared for. Dog was clearly scared and running back and forth through the street/traffic. I couldnt catch it. Not sure if there is a lost dog alert out for a similar guy, but I had to post anyway.
