cameras

Let's be honest, we need to start putting up surveillance cameras outside our homes. This will deter loitering in area. Especially if it's connected to an outside security company that stores data. Stop being fearful of these thugs

Reading some of these posts I can't help but wonder - are we trying to stop the rampant violent crime or are we trying to make life harder for poor people? What does limiting food stamps for poor people have to do with fools shooting people randomly and for no reason? Oh, I get it; if we starve them to the point of emaciation they'll be too weak to lift a gun.

When I hear the 'entitlements are the problem' canard, I wonder what brought about such a mindset. Are you concerned about the fiscal impact social programs have on the budget/economy, or are you obsessed with the thought that somehow, someway, somewhere somebody might, just might, be getting some thing for nothing (as you see it). If it's the former, then you have to know (if you've been truly studying the issue and not ingesting mainstream media and neoconservative propaganda) that the cost/implementation of these programs are in no way a threat to the financial well-being of this nation. 'Welfare', however you define it, does not cost nearly as much as war in Iraq, war in Afghanistan, tax breaks for the uber-wealthy, Wall Street bailouts, subsidies for international corporations (Exxon makes more money than any company in the history of mankind and they have to gall to argue and pressure the government for a tax subsidy), and a host of other boondoggles and special interest programs. Examine the facts and crunch the number and you will have no choice but to come to the conclusion that it ain't 'welfare' that's breaking this country.

We that are concerned need to focus on efforts that will get people to change their behavior; and the only way we can do that (that I know of) is through education. I could go on but I'm tired of typing.

  • JD.....I think people are getting tired of just having government throwing hard earned taxpayers money at the problem and continue to see ANY results. I for one want to see young kids get outa the"poor side" of town, but sometimes and maybe it should most times....they need to find a way or better yet, do it on their own. Take ownership of themselves! These programs were set up for one thing and one thing only....to help for a while NOT provide a lifestyle!

  • Yep, but one thing they will do is fight to keep their neighborhoods safe if they want to stay. We are going to have to develop an effective plan to take back our streets, along with prayer.

Southeast Side Chop Shop Preys on Community and

This southeast side chop shop has been preying on the surrounding community - they have been stealing cars and taking them to have parts stripped and then scrapped for metal.

The car thefts in the area surrounding Adelman's were 262% higher than other areas of the city. No one notices this until people start finding their stolen cars inside the Adelman's lot.

The 10th ward alderman has gotten property tax breaks for Adelmans?

Only one person is charged with stealing one car?
